DHAKA, Jan 21, 2021 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today extended her heartiest greetings to her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi for giving Bangladesh two million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine as a gift.

“You know the Coronavirus vaccine that India provided us as a gift has already arrived. I thank the Indian Prime Minister for that reason. The vaccines which we have bought will arrive by January 25 to 26,” she said.

The Prime Minister was addressing as the chief guest virtually in the inaugural session of the historic international e-conference titled “Celebrating the 100 Years of the University of Dhaka: Reflections from the Alumni-International and National” from her official Ganabhaban residence in the capital.

Dhaka University organized the conference at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus this evening.

Referring to the government measures in purchasing the Covid-19 vaccines, the Prime Minister said, “We are taking all the required measures to face the coronavirus.”
She also said that her government has a plan to proceed with the vaccine.

The premier said the entire world came to a standstill due to the COVID-19 pandemic hoping that the situation will end one day.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni spoke at the function as the special guest while eminent economist Professor Rehman Sobhan read out the keynote paper.

Vice Chancellor (VC) of the DU Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman presided over the function while convener of the conference convening committee Prof Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed moderated it.

DU Pro-VC (admin) Prof Dr. Muhammad Samad read out a citation on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while its Pro-VC (academic) Prof Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal gave vote of thanks to the premier and others for taking part at the programme.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, the DU vice-chancellor earlier received a souvenir marking the birth centenary of Dhaka University from its teacher Prof Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed.

Both were sick before taking vaccine and autopsy showed their death had nothing to do with vaccination. There is still vaccination going on, over one Lakh covaxin has been already given. Covaxin has been peer-reviewed for the first two phases by the lancet. Phase 3 results and review will soon follow.

Get this, Vaccination is not all-out death proof injection. People are going to have a reaction to it, any death caused by the vaccine will immediately stop the trial and results in cancellation of the vaccine altogether.

1.What else explains the massive drop in infections since September last year in India? Weather in north India getting much colder, people spending more time indoors and infections have dropped 80%.
As for new strains, have proper border controls and India cannot import more virulent strains.

Also it allows windows to be kept open and people to spend more time outside. Look at infections rates dropping down to almost zero in Europe last summer as evidence. Obviously if you are like the USA or Brazil where the leaders(ex now for USA) do not take it seriously at all, then some people will not carry out any precautions and still catch the virus in warm and sunny weather.
I did say more than half of India is warm during winter and not the whole of it and so please read my posts more carefully going forward.

Are you saying 250-350 million Indians are immunocompromised?
While it needs more than 100 million doses(50 million people) eventually it is not that urgent that you need to inject a vaccine that has not gone through the proper phase 3 trials like AstraZeneca/Pfizer and Moderna.


PS - UK strain can be defeated by the same antibodies and T-cells like the other ones after research carried out in UK, and so if a country like India that has a lot of people that have already been infected, it will still find it harder to spread than if the population had lower exposure to the virus like say a country like Pakistan.
