Is that a copy of the Barett
Does anyone know more about these rifles? Has Iran only delivered these rifles to the Islamic Jihad, or also to Hamas? Have they been used in the recent sniper incidents? How are they being reviewed by fighters?
The rifle made headlines when Steyr sold up to 800 rifles to Iran in 2005. There was a large amount of concern in the United States,United Kingdom, and to a lesser extent, other European countries that the rifles would find their way into Iraq and be used against theIraqi Army or Coalition forces. Nevertheless, the sale was approved by the Austrian government in November 2004, citing Iran's declared intention to deploy the weapon with anti-terror and counter-drug units.
In February 2007, The Daily Telegraph reported that American sources claimed to have recovered more than 100 of the rifles from Iraqi insurgents. Within 45 days of the delivery of the rifles to Iran, an American soldier was allegedly killed by one of the weapons.
However, according to Steyr CEO Franz Holzschuh, Steyr has not been contacted to compare serial numbers and verify if the weapons in question really were part of the Iranian shipment. According to Steyr, patents for the HS .50 ran out years ago, and fraudulent copies are produced in several countries. The Daily Telegraph admitted in April 2007 that it was not able to verify the story.
U.S. Central Command later announced that no Austrian rifle had been found in Iraq, as reported by the Austrian newspaper Wiener Zeitung (Eng: Vienna Times) on March 29 2007.
So what? Here is some controversy this rifle had made:
So what?

Don't listen to Yzd, he suddenly acts as if he say although with Palestinian fighters or is knowledgable about them.
Hamas has most of them and PIJ also has them with a few going to PRC.
This was used for the first time a few days ago at the Gaza Israel border.
The fighters needed these because in the last ground invasion the Israeli forces made use of armor which saved many of their lives and left them only wounded unless they were hit in the head. Originally most of the sniper rifles being used was the Russian Dragonuv and it didn't get kill shots as much as they needed it to.
So they asked for these and following that 2009 offensive Iran upped the scale in terms of quality weapons.
Keep in mind there select number of top of line snipers in Gaza and Israel tries to get intelligence on them to try to kill them before they go for a ground invasion. Same goes for the anti tank missile teams.
This time they have different tactics and will remain hidden until necessary.
Yesterday two Islamic Jihad terrorists were eliminated in Gaza while trying to set a bomb near a fence. Iranian super duper guns did not help.
