The onshore gas field is located in the Khirtar Fold Belt region, 350 kilometers north of Karachi.

Italian oil group Eni said on Wednesday it had discovered a new onshore gas field in Pakistan with about 8.5-11.5 billion cubic metres of gas in place.

A test revealed the gas quality is "excellent", Eni said.

"The drilling of Badhra North B-1 is part of Eni s new strategy in Pakistan which aims to refocus exploration activities in the neighboring areas to productive fields and confirms the presence of significant exploration potential that can be exploited through the application of new geological models," the Italian group added.

Eni said it has started discussion with the Pakistani regulator in order to speed up the production of the discovery through a long-term production test that will allow for the commercialization of gas, and help to reduce the national gas deficit.

Eni has been present in Pakistan since 2000 and is the largest producer in the country, with an average equity production at approximately 54,800 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2011.

The Resources are there , we Just need to Find them.

ROME: Italian energy major ENI said on Wednesday it had discovered a major reserve of between 300 billion and 400 billion cubic feet of gas some 350 kilometres north of Karachi in Pakistan.

The discovery was made in the Khirtar Fold Belt region close to the ENI-operated Bhit gas processing facility, the company said in a statement.

ENI said it “confirms the presence of significant exploration potential that can be exploited through the application of new geological models.”

The company said it had begun talks with Pakistani authorities on creating a joint venture, adding that it would “help to reduce the national gas deficit.”

ENI has been in Pakistan since 2000 and is the country’s largest producer, with average production of 54,800 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2011.

Pakistan has had an endemic energy crisis for years, characterised by frequent blackouts, which has crippled the economy.

The crisis is blamed on chronic mismanagement and corruption.

then u would also know that till date we havnt taken out/drilled even a single cubic feet of gas or barrel of oil or even done a detailed survey 2D/2D survey of area adjacent to irna..sui the only significant place in baluchistan is actually at the very boarder of sindh!!!! ...even today sindh accounts for 70% of gas !!

Most of Iran's oil is along the Gulf, well in its west, and stops well short of the border with Pakistan, actually:

This is great..

Hopefully Zardari won't screw this over also..

I wonder what else is lying under our feet.

Somebody is going to offer Zardari a cut to steal the resources book it.

Will this effect the Iran-Pakistan pipeline?
