The purported significant increase in the Pashtun population in Balochistan serves a dual purpose for the establishment: to manipulate elections with ease and to achieve its longstanding objectives of reducing the influence of Punjab and making the Baloch a minority in their own province.

There appears to be a discernible trend: the Baloch population had decreased from 61% to 55.6% between 1998 and 2017 in 20 districts where the Baloch were in a majority. It won't come as a surprise if that percentage goes below 50 in this census (or the next). Just as we saw in the case of Punjab, Punjabis no longer hold the status of being in absolute majority in Pakistan, as their population has now fallen below 50% (officially). Similarly, Baloch would no longer hold the status of being in absolute majority in Balochistan once their population falls below 50%. Although this supposed shift in the demographic makeup may have long-term positive effects on the country's integrity, the means employed by the establishment to achieve this end are questionable. As for Pashtuns, there are more Pashto speakers in Balochistan than Balochi speakers (excluding Brahui). There has been a significant increase in the number of Pashto speakers in Balochistan lately, rising from 29% in 1998 to 35% in 2017
