The media coverage is the real reason that the govt. can not back out and is forced to wait for the judicial trial.
If he has killed people, then he must go to jail. I don't understand why the US is so insistent on his release unless Davis knows something US doesn't want Pakistan to know.
I have said this before and I will say it again: Pakistan should have good relations with everyone, but should NOT rely on anyone for aid or anything.
No dependence means actual Independence.

Considering the recent argument between the US and pakistan over the Raymond Davis case, adn the US officials reportedly threatening to severe diplomatic ties with pakistan, should Pakistan stand up to the US and be independent of the superpower adn cooperate more with the likes of turkey and such or should we surrender to the US for their continuing aid?.....THOUGHTS?

I think the the real question is "can pakistan survive without US aid ?". And ofcourse the obvious questions about the relevence of alien terms (for the pak members) like "gratitude". The overextended purse strings of the average US citizen still provides the lifeline for the pak establishment. You guys were big fans of the US back the 80's and the 90's. The truth is they helped you then and even today they continue to help you. Meanwhile , china has only been following its own agenda when it comes to pakistan. Some of you are just too blind to realise that ,is all. Yes, the US obviously has similiar vested interests in Pakistan but apparantly they have been helping you guys out for a far longer time than the chinese. Not to mention the fact that no real "allies" exist in the world politics.

That aid was forced upon us. Who would want to put their necks out for the US for that petty amount they call aid? Most of the times, the "aid" is actually a loan. Not a grant. Loans have to be repaid with interest.

We can survive without US aid because we had managed quite well for many years before the IMF/World Bank and other institutions started providing loans etc. They knew that the money rarely benefits the majority of the pouplation yet they kept approving loans after loans.

It is American aid that is leading us to an economic turmoil.

We must try to stand on our own feet and try to be a strong Nation, not only a strong Nation from tongues.

The US aid is almost 90% being spent on the WoT.If the US aid stops to come then the pakistani friendly relations with US stop and the taliban want exactly that and hence pakistan will have no war to fight and so forth no need for aid.Pakistan can feed it's citizens without aid but cannot feed it's citizens along with the WoT without aid,so in short withdrawal of american aid will mean no WoT which will mean no need for aid.

Economically Pakistan is overtly Dependant on US.

US provides approximately $3 Billion in direct aid to Pakistan every year.

US is the largest importer of Pakistani goods..which currently accounts for nearly one fourth of all Pakistani exports(approx $ 4.5 Billion/yr).

US has largest number of votes in IMF and WB ...and without US approval Pakistan can not get any loans which amount close to $5 Billion/yr.

US was the driving force behind, rescheduling of Pakistani loans payments (done after it decided to join WOT)..which is infact one of the main reason why Pakistani economy picked up(7.5% in 2003 as compared to 4.5% the previous year.) with in an year of rescheduling.

US was largest donor by far close to $1 Billion($500 million from KLB+$500 million direct US aid) to deal with floods in Pakistan.

We already stand up. US pressure GoP, our government message saying "WAIT TIL COURT DECIDE". US keep threatening us before court date, we said "rebuff your pressures". All US care is to avoid court trial, they failed.

Is that a personal attack? I don't think so. I'm not abusing or name-calling or anything.

It's a simple question.

If a person who claims to be an Indian so strongly disagrees with the govt.'s policies, it'll be in the best interest of the country itself if that person takes up the gauntlet and starts protesting in real life.

It only makes sense.

Buddy I guess you are deviating a bit from the topic here.In order to stand up to the US it is not sufficient to just "sustain" the economy but also to strengthen it.Today India is a 1.4 trillion dollar economy due to the changes that were adopted in 1991.Prior to that our economy was pathetic but still we had sustained a socialist type of functioning

sorry, you are the one deviating from this topic. No one here is claiming about standing up to the USA face to face. The mindset that most Indians on this forum here believe is that Pakistan's economy is supported solely by USA, and that Pakistan will crumble without its aid. I am showing you an example of the 90s where we still manage to pull it off despite the sanctions on our economy.

Also I am getting a feeling that you are one of those who think that Pakistan is fighting the war for the US.Elements like the TTP etc. have killed a lot more Pakistanis than US citizens.Pakistan is fighting these radical elements for it's own survival.In that case i feel it would be incorrect to ask the US 40-60 billion dollars.Do you really think that the US will pay Pakistan that much?

I am afraid you are mistaken again. I support the Pakistan Army 100% in its role against the TTP which have done injustice the people of not only SW, FATA, and Swat, but to the whole people of Pakistan. What I am trying to put across, is that we have lost 40 billion USD in this role of war, and as promised under the Kerry Lugar bill, it is USA's responsibility to provide us with the aid, which is still not enough to cover our losses still. So that 8.5 billion USD, is still not enough, and we are still here sustaining ourselves in this WoT and at the same time in the economy. This goes back to my point again which shows that we are not entirely dependent on USA aids. Pakistani can survive without US aid but our politicians,feudal lord, bureaucracy or establishment won't survive. Unfortunately corruption start from top.
US and West should mercy and stop providing aid to Pakistan. Because this money never invested for the project which benefit the people of Pakistan.

Glad that you brought India into it. Please think through and you will find the difference between 2 kinds of Aid.
1) India does not depend on Aid, means if they stop the Aid our government will still have money to function etc.
2) We are not asking for Aid, against you are going places asking for Aid. (Friends of Pakistan, USA etc). These are dedicated platforms created by Paksitan purely for getting Aid.
3) These Aid's are program specific and India even rejects a lot of Aid. (If someone still want's to give aid why we stop them?)
4) Compare to size of countries your Aid is bit too much. We are 6 times larger than you but aid difference is not even 10%.
