So there is 1 business for every 3 of us ? I dont know about the North of England but in the South East most Pakistanis are relatively average or well off although immigrant families are poorer. From what I know I would say that Pakistanis from up north (which make the majority) are less well off due to the collapse of industries that brought them there.

You're absolutely right, I've seen first hand Pakistani communities all over, especially in Britain. The Pakistanis in London and the south are usually well off, fairly educated, a large proportion are in the middle class. Whereas those in the north often suffer the same decline as the rest of the de-industrialised north. I'd go further to say that our communities oop north tend to be less well educated, and we have no a lost generation of youngsters, young British Pakistanis whose prospects are very worrying.

The way I see it, we still lag behind British Indians and Chinese, quite badly. In education, we're far behind in school/a-level achievement as well as university. We're less likely to mingle with the rest of society, and I don't mean binge drinking with locals, we stick in our own communities, large numbers of us barely speak English with any fluency because in our communities we don't interact with others. Our business prospects are usually lacking any originality besides the usual career choices. Women work far less than in other communities, they're less educated than in other communities. Our communities even though some of them have been established since the 60s and 70s can barely even compete with newly arrived immigrants from Europe sometimes.

We need to change our ways, and a great conscious effort is needed on our part to reverse our fortunes.

I live in the North-ish region now, but I have lived in London and as far down as Kent. I have made the same observation as above. I think it may be just a reflection of the North of England as a whole, the collapse of the mills/industry/closure of mines have been devastating here, both for the immigrant community that was originally brought in to work them and the wider White working class.

I do not know many Pakistanis claiming for benefits... but in your support I would say that 10% people do claim benefits and out of this 10% over 90% are aged 50 and over. The bottom line is it is impossible that each Pakistani individual is claiming 40,000 pounds per year in benefits or lets say 200,000 pounds per year for family of 5 so your figure is not realistic.

The biggest bluff I would make to enlarge the true figure to maximum of 1 billion pound for entire Pakistani community but even that is far exaggerated since my calculation suggests that if 10% claims benefit out of 1.5 million population, each household consists of 5 people then its 30,000 families and even if they are lucky to get £10,000 per household they still claim 300 million pounds in benefit.

In return, the community pays back much more than 30 billion pounds as many businesses are never accounted for. Most self employed workers are never asked about their background so the figure is truly above 30 billion pound in my opinion

dont have any view on this because I dont have data, nor do i live in benefit street, but the 30 billion pound is the contribution to GDP not to the exchequer, whereas benefit comes from exchequer... so unfair to compare these numbers.

Divided by the total population ~65 million, that's £12k for every man, woman and child, only it's MOST PROBABLY not just made up of benefit spending, but also spending on infrastructure, debt servicing, and elsewhere not on persons directly. With the same way of calculating, British Pakistanis number about 1.2 million lets say, these are the latest figures I can find, £60 billion divided by 1.2 million, and that too directly on benefits and not factoring non direct payments, that would mean each Pakistani man, woman and child would receive £50k in benefits each.

Believe me, if that were the case, we'd 'most probably' be living like kings, alas reality is far detached from that.

I am not sure about 300k businesses but there is no doubt about Pakistanis owning significant number of corner shops almost everywhere in UK.

Few years ago, most of the newspaper agents were Indians but now you see visible number of shopkeeper from Pakistani background. Indian on the other hand switched to more profitable businesses of building material and household equipments

its to do with the generations

the older indian generation that owned the corner shops made so much money over the last 20 to 30 years that they branched out into other businesses like starting up their own factories having 4 or 5 houses on rent which our worth million in 2017 etc and they also made sure that their kids got into a proper profession, the indian uncle who owned the corner shop made sure his son and daughter went uni and didn't do the same job as their dad. these kids came out of uni with a degree and went on to become doctors, lawyers, dentists etc etc

where as the pakistani shop owner gets his son to work in the corner shop as soon as they are of age rather then sending him off to uni. the pakistani shop owner rather him and his son work together in the shop and open another one with the profits rather then setting up a different business.

The chinese and Indians have absolutely smashed how they do business here in the UK

It's true, the government runs a deficit overall, therefore it runs a deficit per person. Meaning overall, people on average have more money spent on them than they contribute to the exchequer, this was true when the deficit was larger, when the other factors of spending such were smaller.

And here's a representation I found in an article, although this clearly isn't per capita, so the size of bars is relative to population size, but you can still tell that dividing that positive contribution of EU migrants leads to a net contribution to the exchequer per person which neither UK natives or non EEA migrants are able to do.
