What's new

Pakistanis becoming less Anti-Indian, but do Indians reciprocate?

You need someone from outside the system to tell the situation as it is; sort of like calling in a consultant, if you will. If Mr. Aiyar had a stake in status quo, he would not say a word. By this logic nothing would ever change. Great.

If you are castigating Aiyar, then you sure would not give time of day to (former) Ambassador M. K. Bhadrakumar.

Sir, I am Living in India, I know Mr. Aiyar BETTER than you.

He is a Known Pro-Pakistani.

As i have said in one of my earlier post that he will see a FRIENDLIER Pakistan even when the likes of Daud Ibrahim will rule that country (just an assumption).

In Fact he has done ONLY damage to his own country:

When he was Sports Minister, India lost the bid of Asiad 2014 b'coz of his Idiotic comments.

When he was the Petroleum Minister, India was not able to make good relations with US as he was very much in favor of IPI even at the cost of relations with US (though i m in favor of relations with both but not at the cost of US).

He is NOT a NEUTRAL voice in this MATTER, so obviously, i would say that his THOUGHTS doesn't MATTER.

BTW, how do you think Indians will take a country whose citizens talks of using NUKES against India at drop of a hat??

US attacked Pak -----> Nuke India.

Israel attacked Pak -----> Nuke India.

SERIOUSLY??

Pakistan’s animosity reducing, India needs to change attitude: Indian lawmaker – The Express Tribune

WASHINGTON: A senior lawmaker from India’s ruling Congress party said Monday that Pakistan’s historic animosity toward New Delhi was fading and called for his country to change its own attitudes.
Mani Shankar Aiyar, a diplomat turned politician known for his dovish views, said he saw a shift as Pakistanis who remember the subcontinent’s partition in 1947 – and defined their identity accordingly –grew older.
Aiyar, speaking on a visit to Washington, said that Pakistanis had increasingly suffered themselves from violence by extremists and that the neighbouring country had economic and cultural interests in better ties.
“The visceral anti-Indianism of a previous generation is almost out of the picture now and will be totally out of the picture about the time that they lower me into the grave,” Aiyar, 72, said at the Atlantic Council think tank.
Aiyar said that “nothing similar has happened in India,” which has fought three full-fledged wars against its neighbor since independence.
“There is a kind of clinging to the belief that since the Pakistanis have been hostile in the past, they are necessarily hostile now, and therefore Indians should behave like housewives who heard on the radio that a convict has escaped for the nearby jail and start putting up more and more barricades.”
His optimism comes despite concerns by India and the United States over extremist groups in Pakistan such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, which investigators blamed for the November 2008 siege of Mumbai that killed 166 people.
Aiyar, who was close to slain former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, said that India should pursue “uninterrupted and uninterruptible” dialogue with Pakistan to deprive extremists of one perceived benefit of launching attacks.
Aiyar praised overtures by Pakistan’s incoming prime minister Nawaz Sharif, while conceding that Sharif’s record on anti-India violence “is not a very happy one” during his previous two stints in office.
But Aiyar said that Sharif apparently believed that building a better relationship with India “will pay him huge domestic political dividends.”
Sharif likely sees “that the best way of doing this is not to take the Lashkar-e-Taiba on absolutely upfront, but to try and restrain them” and stop support to the group from within the Pakistani state, Aiyar said.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Though I do not agree with phraseology of Mr. Aiyar, but I have certainly felt the same over the past few years. His observations about some reactionary Indians are spot on. I have noticed the same on various forums and websites. Peaceniks among Indians seem either a minority or a silent majority.

I would like to invite opinions from fellow forum members who actually live in India and are in touch with the popular mood. @Ayush, @KRAIT, @orion Hunter, etc.... Pls contribute and ask others to comment.

First thing,

Mani Shankar Iyer is amongst the most confused people you can ever find,he has no backbone,he was a school friend of Rajiv Gandhi,Is Verbose and can talk nonsense for long hours like any average Stephenian.

I dont like words like Peacnik/Hawk.

I think both the countries are practical and India should take the two positions:

1.Kashmir is Non Negotiable

2.Indus water treaty ll be respected totally but Pak also has to take care of its irrigation,we are not heartless or stupid to starve Pak of the Indus waters.

Aiyar is a random peacenik cuz he grew up in lahore before partition and still lives in such pipe dreams.

Are you sure? Maybe you are a part of the problem and therefore can not see the solution.

If you can not see the forest for the trees, then what are you doing on this thread? Go raise hell in some Pakistan vs. India thread. Leave us be.

Mate......I'm just telling u realities.......wont help living in a world of dream and illusions.

See all the past incidents happening in both countries.......posts of Indian and Pakistani members here......there is no sign of less "anti each-other" feeling.

I cant just fortale things.......I can just draw conclusions from things that r presently happening.

bhadrakumar is god compared to iyer.

@Chak Bamu

One thing I can say that here in India.......many ppl like me.....just dont trust Pakistan enough......we dont trust u and have confidence in u.....its as plain and simple as that....

Example.......when talks were going for withdrawing forces from Siachen......we were first enthusiastic and willing.......but, we always thought what if another kargil type senario were to take place, what would happen.........so we decided to keep our forces there.

Same is the situation for many other case. We just have enough confidence to put the hands of friendship forward.

You draw conclusions based upon what you see. You are the observer and you see what you choose to see and interpret it likewise. Your perception colors your experience.

There r some things, when it happens, u just cant deny reaching the conclusion.

I hate Indians more than I hate Afghans.

This thread sounds like bs.

Disagree! I have been using internet since 1992. I have seen Indian attitude in freeze-mode, while Pakistanis have shown willingness to change. But there is almost zero reciprocation. Actually your attitude reflects the problem from Indian side. Pride does no good to anyone.

As India's growth slows, Indian policy makers realize importance of Pakistan. But the populace is stuck in a negative mindset, it seems.

Like I said...
the reason we have the negative mindset because of terrorists still getting harbored, sheltered and trained by you guys. So how do you expect to change our mindset? You first take care of our concern and then we will talk about our mindset ..how about that?

U couldn't do anything about it even if u have proofs...wat pity... and they say we can't do jack :omghaha:
Was that officially accepted by Pakistan?
No.
Did you attack us officially in 71?
Yes.
Do you know what happened in 71?

Indians are more anti Pakistan than Pakistan are anti India.

Ordinary Pakistanis have no reason to be anti-India because India is not supporting terrorism against them. However the converse is not true.
