What's new

Pakistani Rupee Will Be At All Time Low In a Decade

Very detailed reply, but it has been diverted to another direction. My point was that the government is making a web of motorways. FWO is just another contracter within Pakistan which is going to finance it for 25 years.
I'm sorry brother but you are totally wrong on this.FWO isn't just a contractor. All the expense to develop these motorways would be beared by FWO/Chinese Companies and not a single penny by the gov't .FWO and chinese companies will own these motorways for a period of 25 years fully. They can even collect royalty from petrol pumps and restaurants that touch this motorway. They will collect toll tax on toll plazas too and earn form their service areas too.

(The Chairman NHA while expressing satisfaction on the overall progress issued instructions to the concerned NHA staff and the contractor M/s SCORE (FWO) to ensure foolproof safety of the people travelling along the project area especially the diversions.)
That doesn't prove that gov't owns these motorways.Gov't is the executive authority anyways, they can even seal any private factory too if it doesn't follows the safety rules and regulations and even a restaurant so it doesn't means that factory is owned by government.

2. Don't even think that your exports will rise until your Electricity is cheap and you have power plus motorways to connect ports. It will take due time. Work is underway. Eyes can observe.
Power Shortage was much worse in Mr 10 % Govt and electricity prices were also much higher during that tenure because crude oil wasn't below $40 per barrel at that time.Yet pakistan's exports were at a much better place at that time than Panama Sharif's govt.

You are right that electricity should be cheap and available if we want our industry to grow.If i say that pakistan doesn't even have and had a power shortage then you would laugh at me but this's a fact.Pakistan's electricity demand even at peak times is 17-18000 MW whereas Pakistan's cumulative electricity production is 22000 MW.So you would say why doesn't gov't provide it to the industry and masses. The answer to that question is that most of the electricity is generated by IPP's (Independent Power Producers) whose payments aren't made by the government which is often called as Circular debt which is currently at Rs. 650 billion rupees because they are mostly fueled by gas and oil which makes them expensive as well as corruption and subsidies by gov't so as not to victimize their own voters costs too.

So what current gov't is doing to resolve this situation. They haven't started any new cheap electricity generation projects especially hydroelectric power projects and making the same mistake which Benazir did in 1994 of IPP (Independent Power Producers) policy. All of the power projects which are being developed now are also IPP's (Independent Power Producers).

Just a few are actually being developed by the gov't itself which are a continuation of previous govt's projects not even started by this government. So it means gov't would still be dependent on IPP's which would sell expensive electricity to the gov't and only thing which would change will be the companies.

4. Steel Mill and PIA needs to be privatised, ask the people who are against privatization because it is the only way to get rid of PPP employees in these organizations. They are always ready to hold protests, once privatization begins. And dumb people in this country will again bash NS for privatization which is the only way forward especially for these two.

1. AirBLUE is owned by Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and it's in profits while gov't owned PIA is in loss then what should we suppose now?

2. Panama Brothers were able to develop 27 steel foundries, paper mills, sugar mills, poultry farms, dairy farms, oil mills, feed mills, agriculture farms, steel mill in saudi arabia, steel mill in dubai and multiple offshore companies in uk starting from just 1 steel foundary while Pakistan Steel Mill isn't even able to utilize even 25% of it's total manufacturing capability. What should we suppose now?

5. Nothing to say on circular debt.
You should ask the gov't where is the money going if they are not even paying the amount meant for electricity generated by IPP's (Independent Power Producers) when you and I are paying our electricity bills regularly which is often not even correct.

1. Govt and planning commission has done all the planning and given contracts for this motorway. They are executing their vision for a better economy.

2. In Zardari tenure electricity prices were around 13/unit for commercial. Today it is above 20-25 for commercial.

3. For the previous govt started projects, this govt is giving budget. And if it is about starting a project then the many other projects u mentioned are started by this govt.

4. If any employee of airblue is not working to the standard, its owner can fire him. But in PIA their union is very strong. they will halt all the flights in mins. You need to be neutral too bro because u r sharing a good knowledge here, unlike others.
You need to understand that PIA major problem is corrupt employees hired by PPP. Same for steel mills. It is not a pvt property. All those murgh Khanas, sugar mills, cotton mills, rice mills, feed mills, agriculture farms have pvt ownership. Their employees have no job guarantee; therefore, they work diligently. Moreover, every PIA traveler admits that its performance is better now, as compared to Zardari tenure, with better planes hired recently.

In 2014, PIA was operating with 19 planes.

In 2016, it had 39, until ATR got temporarily grounded. Moreover it has finalised the contract of buying 8 new 787.

It wasn't 13/unit for residential even in Zardari period bro.It was subsidised for residential user groups such as 100 units 200 units and 300 units which started at 8/unit,10/unit and 12/unit after which normal/standard residential charges applied which were 13.33/unit .It was 22/unit during Zardari era for commercial meters.Nowadays it's 15/unit for commerical/industrial meters and it's maximum per KWH price of electricity nowadays

I'm sorry bro,you didn't get what i was trying to say.All of the power projects like coal power plants ,wind power plants, hydropower plants and even solar power plants are being built private developers commonly known as IPP's (Independent Power Producers).I'm talking about projects like sahiwal coal power plant, haveli bahadur shah,quaid-e-azam solar power plant etc. All of them have nothing to do with the gov't.You can verify my claims from this link:

Then i will give you example of some other gov't organisations too.

Everyone knows Nokia which was an undisputed king of mobile phones for a decade. Now would you believe that it was gov't owned company.

All these not-for-profit companies are being held by Armed Forces of Pakistan which spend all their income for betterment of retired armed forces personnel lives yet none of them are in loss which are also gov't based and are not a private property. All of them are making good profits. Why?

During Musharaf era from 2002-2004 PIA was making profits, even then it was a gov't owned entity and had 19500 employees then instead of 15000 that it has now.It went into loss during 2005-07 because of fuel prices increase.

1. Every single person who uses more than 700 units is paying 18.90/unit. If u r civilian, look at ur own electricity bill. commercially they are paying 23 to 28/unit. I have been talking with many shop keepers since 2 3 years abt it. u provided a link which has no convergence on the ground. It is on my own bill that i Pay 18.90 after 700 units.

2. There are many projects in these which have govt ownership.
The government has decided to privatise, in the first phase, the 1,200-megawatt liquefied natural gas-based power plant being set up at Haveli Bahadur Shah, Punjab in an effort to cope with power shortages.

The Bhikki plant is being constructed by the Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power Private Limited, a company wholly owned and controlled by the government of Punjab.

In case of privatisation of Haveli Bahadur Shah and Balloki projects, the Privatisation Commission before discharging the responsibility under applicable laws and in case of privatisation of Bhikki project, the ECC will review and adjust the risk allocation under the implementation agreement,” the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) said in a meeting held on June 28.

Here govt is already privatizing them, for better performance. Your argument that govt has no role in the making of these projects is not true.

This is also the only way forward for PIA, unless people are ready to wait 5 to 8 years when we will have more goodies added in the PIA fleet.

Whatever is happening in this tenure of the PMLN is either because of them or it is not. You can not associate good things to some Angels, and every bad things to PMLN.

@Musketeeer You clearly miss every point that was explained by @Peregrine_Falcon

About the IPPs he said they are not a good solution for overcoming power shortages why? Because they use expensive fuel to run which is a reason we have to bear the high costs and also the shenanigans of IPPs. Govt must invest in more hydroelectric power projects which the PMLN does not want because of their Modi friendship. Do you really think Kalabagh Dam, a dam with no interference of Indian waters could be a threat to the country?

Your links to the conversation do not add weight to your argument but they are only cheap links where the Govt tries to glorify itself without results. Musharraf's tenure was not only the best it was an eye opening era for the people to realize that if the Govt really performs it can give you a better lifestyle.

Give us just one project of PMLN which serves the nation on a daily basis. PMLQ just got a single term and they gave us Rescue 1122. It saves hundreds of people daily and transports the sick to hospitals for free. This is just one project from their long list of gifts to the public but let me know about PMLN. What is their gift to the nation who votes for them blindly ad gets a whacking in response?

The list of Govt owned Army projects above is a clear indication of a well managed project. Blaming PPP for its people in the organization is no excuse because the PMLN can fire them if it really wants to filter the trash. But why doesn't that happen? It is evident now that PMLN runs to the guru Zardari in times of need and if they would need advice to hide corruption they will only ask the king for tactics which is now clear to all. So, PPP and PMLN are the same with different faces.

Unfortunately, this is likely true for a couple of different reasons:
1. Pakistan needs to lower value of the PKR to increase exports.
2. US is raising interest rates, which makes the US currently more attractive. This will impact emerging economies. Not just Pakistan's, but even China's and India's currencies will be under pressure for the foreseeable future.

In-fact the Federal Reserve Bank may raise rates 3 more times in 2017. This only strengthens the USD.

With CPEC implementation, Pakistan's situation should improve, InshAllah, but, hard to say how quickly that would happen.
Sadly some people do not want to understand the logic behind it but argue that PMLN is the savior of Pakistan and we have no other option than the Panama Brothers. In such a case we should all pray for their eternal life because after they are gone the country would be in ruins.

Clearly they were sleeping during 2000 - 2008 else they would've known there are other intelligent people in this country capable to rule 100X better than PMLN or PPP

Pakistan today faces many challenges such as illiteracy, poverty, corruption, inequity, energy crisis, poor governance and terrorism. The country has been divided in haves and haves-not classes. These issues have given roots to many new problems and have caused a direct negative impact on the economy. “N League government has failed to manage Pakistan and address its core issues. It has totally failed to accomplish the international Sustainable Development Goals”.

They (PMLN) seem much concerned about constructing roads and develop housing societies that are clearly out of common man’s reach.
While the nation demands attention on internal policies and good governance, the government is seen busy visiting foreign countries and pleasing Turkey and China.

I understand keeping China in a good mood
What is up with Pakistan-Turkey relationship ?? Spare me the historic and cultural bonds BS

Another bad news.
Why pakistani Rupee and economy in phase of depression??

1. First of all. Now I get your reasons to hate Pmln, since you have now mentioned the glorious ERA of 2000-2008.
The Era which gave us following great gifts.

1. Load shedding: It began in November 2007, because the most glorious leader of Pakistan Mr Musharaf did not produce any hydro-electric plant or even any other source of cheap energy, and relied for a decade on IPPs. Resultantly, the country went into the shock of power crises. Which further ruined the Economy.

2. Corruption: By doing the NRO, Mr amazing-Musharaf gave us Zardari, who was in jail previously as well as Gillani, who was serving conviction in court for 8 years. The like-minded leftiest of Musharaf then ruined the institutes further.

3. Terrorism: Clearly, if the glorious-musharaf has gone for educating the tribles rather than bombing them, the country would have not suffered these troubling days. Today we are bearing their revenge because of his wrong policies.

4. MQM: The party which was strengthened in Musharaf tenure by changing the constituencies of Karachi, in 2002(which increased their seats). MQM killers would be ready to have Musharaf as PM of Pakistan any day. Go and ask them how they feel about ur dear Musharaf.

We have seen all those days when Musharaf looted the country and ended up having 2 3 Billion dollar in foreign accounts.

The only thing which was absent at that time was Media. Therefore people like you whose only source was media still thinks that he was a great leader. Whereas, he is the one who has destroyed this country more than anyone.

2. There is only one party in Pakistan who would love to have Kala Bagh dam any day and that is PMLN, but it is get strong apposition of Pervez Khatak (PTI) and Zardari. So plz think before you speak. Moreover, if you really think that 3600 MW of Kala Bagh dam will do wonders for the economy than that is ur limit. The party I support is going to create 36000 MW in 6-8 years. Pakistan is cheap and worsening in ur brain only; whereas, in few years its demand of electricity will go beyond 50,000 MW.
To make it clear Kala Bagh dam is more for making reserves for water than using it for electricity. Its water reservoir is a lot bigger than its power generation capacity.

3. At the end of Pervez Ilahi tenure, Pakistan had only six 1122. Today, Pakistan is having 1122 in 36 districts.

This perception is factually incorrect. The total installed generation capacity in 2000-01 was 17,772 MW which increased to 19,566 MW by 2007-08 – an increase of 1794 MW during musharaf tenure. These facts are well documented in Pakistan Economic Survey 2001-02 (PP. 202, Table 15.13) and Pakistan Economic Survey 2007-08 (PP.259, Table 15.16)
Out of 1794 MW increase in installed generation capacity, 1770MW (99%) increase is attributed to WAPDA. The major addition came from Ghazibrotha power project.
But I would like to explain a little bit more on this issue. In 2000-01, Pakistan was having a surplus of 3000 MW because of the induction of electricity through the Independent Power Producers (IPPs). According to the 1994 Power Policy, even if the gov't did not consume electricity, the government was required to pay 60% of the capacity to respective IPPs. Thus, we were having surplus power 3000 MW with all its financial implications.
By January 2003, we were still having surplus of 2000 MW with all its financial implications. Do you think that musharaf government would have set up another power plant when we were already having surplus electricity. According to estimates, the surplus power was to be a eliminated by 2007 provided our consumption of electricity would have grown at the rate of 6 percent per annum.
Pakistan’s economy grew at an average rate of 7.5 percent per annum during 2003-07 and accordingly the electricity consumption grew at an average rate of 10-11 percent – much higher than govt's assumption of 6 percent. Consequently, the surplus power was eliminated by mid- 2004 instead of 2007.
Your question would then be: what did musharaf government do in mid – 2004? My answer is plain. They launched 50 new power projects totaling 12, 141 MW during February 2004 and until June 2007.
These facts can be checked with Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB). These projects were to come in operation during October 2008 to December 2015. You should keep in mind that it takes minimum four years for a power plant to come under operation. Three of the said projects had come into operation and inaugurated by Mr 10% tenure Prime Minister.
Thus, the perception is absolutely wrong. It was created deliberately by the next rulers to hide their inefficiencies and misguide the people of Pakistan.

The only thing which was absent at that time was Media. Therefore people like you whose only source was media still thinks that he was a great leader. Whereas, he is the one who has destroyed this country more than anyone.
Brother just look at his achievements and then compare it with your democracy period
Economic Growth

  • He salvaged a near bankcrupt economy and transformed it to emerge as one of the four fastest growing economy in the Asian region along with China, India and Vietnam
  • Pakistan’s economy grew at an average rate of 7.0 percent per annum
  • The performance of large-scale manufacturing has been unparalled in the country’s history. It grew at an average rate of 11 percent per annum
  • Services sector grew at an average rate of 6.0 percent per annum
  • Because of Musharaf's strong economic policies, Goldman Sachs a global investment bank, included Pakistan in the category of new emerging market (Next – 11) destined to play a major role in the world economic setting.
  • Goldman Sachs extended their coverage from BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India and China) to eleven more emerging economic power including Pakistan, Korea, Mexico, Vietnam, Turkey etc.
  • Pakistan’s per capita income doubled (from $ 526 in 1999-2000 to $1085 in 2007-08). In other words, the average income of Pakistani people more than doubled during Musharraf regime.
  • The size of the economy more than doubled (from $74 billion in 1999-2000 to $170 billion in 2007-08) as well.
Investment
  • Investment rose from 17.4 percent to 22.9 percent of GDP – an increase of 5.5percent of GDP in seven/eight years is unparallel in recent times in Pakistan.
  • Foreign Investment surged from $0.5 billion to $8.5 billion during his government – a 17 fold increase in 8 years which reflected the growing confidence of foreign investors on Pakistan.
Unemployment & Poverty

  • His government succeeded in creating 13.5 million new jobs and accordingly reduced the unemployment rate from 8.3 percent to 5.2 percent
  • Strong economic growth succeeded not only in creating new jobs but reducing poverty by one – half. That is, poverty reduced to one-half during his government. The number of people living below the poverty declined from 34.5 percent in 2000-01 to 17.2 percent in 2007/08.
  • Income inequality also started narrowing after 2005-06.
Inflation

  • Low inflation had been the hallmark of his government. Inflation averaged 5.5 percent during 2000-2007
Deficit and Debt

  • Tax collection by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) tripled during his regime – increasing from Rs 308 billion to Rs.1025 billion
  • Overall budget deficit as percentage of GDP reduced to almost one half. Budget deficit averaged over 7.0 percent of GDP during the 1980s and 1990s but was reduced to an average of 4.0 percent of GDP, thus reflecting the financial discipline of his government.
  • The country’s debt burden reduced to one – half. National (Public) debt was over 100 percent of GDP by end of the 1990s but reduced to 55 percent by the end of his government
  • In the words of the IMF “The large and sustained decline in the external debt to –GDP –ratio was one of Pakistan’s most remarkable macroeconomic achievements of recent years”.
  • Debt servicing used to consume 64 percent total revenue in 1998-99. By maintaining financial discipline and reducing budget deficit, we succeeded in bringing it down to 25 percent only. In other words, the resources saved from debt servicing were diverted towards development program.
External Sector

  • Both exports and imports grew at higher double –digit-levels
  • Foreign exchange reserves increased from $500 million to over $16 billion – a sixteen fold increase in reserves during his government.
  • Exchange rate remained stable as a result of the build up in foreign exchange reserves
  • Remittances continued to grow from less than $1.0 billion to over $16.0 billion
  • Pakistan’s international credit rating continued to improve from selective default to B+
  • He had the honour of taking Pakistan out of the IMF program in December 2004.

  • Pakistan pursued a successful privatization program for the state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
Stock Market

  • Karachi Stock Exchange emerged as one of the best stock exchange, in emerging economies. The Karachi Stock Exchange Index surged more than 11 times – rising from 1189 in October to 13998 in November 2007. This represented the growing confidence of the private sector (both domestic and foreign) on economic management.
SOCIAL SECTOR

Education

  • Overall Literacy Rate increased from 45% to 55% during 2000-01 to 2006-07.
  • Male literacy rate increased from 58% to 67%.
  • Female literacy rate increased from 32% to 42% during his government.
  • Gross enrolment at primary level (5.9 years) increased from 72% to 91% – an increase of 19 percentage points.
Higher Education

  • The state of higher education in Pakistan was in a pathetic condition prior to his government. We had 48 universities; the number of Ph.Ds and engineers per million population was only 112 –about one – third of the minimum standards prescribed by the UNESCO. Pakistan had the stock of only 2600 science Ph.D and the country was producing barely 50-60 per annum.
  • His government launched a multi – pronged strategy, including the establishment of Higher Education Commission (HEC).
  • He provided substantial resources to higher education. The development budget for higher education increased from Rs. 500 million to Rs. 14 billion in 2006-07 .
  • Number of universities increased to 130 in 2006-07 from 48 in 1998-99.

  • Social Sector and Poverty – Related Expenditures Increased from Rs. 167 billion (3.8% of GDP) to Rs. 500 billion (5.7 % of GDP)

3. Terrorism: Clearly, if the glorious-musharaf has gone for educating the tribles rather than bombing them, the country would have not suffered these troubling days. Today we are bearing their revenge because of his wrong policies.
PML-N would be the first one to take credit of peace nowadays and they even claim about Army following it's leadership command for ensuring peace then why they allowed Army to do the same during their rule which you are trying to blame on Musharraf. They should have educated the tribals instead of ordering Army for bombarding them here too.

2. Corruption: By doing the NRO, Mr amazing-Musharaf gave us Zardari, who was in jail previously as well as Gillani, who was serving conviction in court for 8 years. The like-minded leftiest of Musharaf then ruined the institutes further.
You forgot to mention about another beneficiary of NRO too.Panama Brothers also had 21 cases of corruption against them.

@Musketeeer To your answer I can only say 'LOL' 'ROFL' and hahahahahaha
You only ranted, ranted and more ranted. You couldn't point out even one, '1', '1.0' service of your Panama Brothers but simply ranted and extended the work of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi. You simply can't do anything but rant because there isn't anything to prove! You are the other Rana Sanaullah and nothing more. Another Noora Jiyala who has nothing to prove but simply dance and prance about the kings. You are a hopeless case just like all the others who vote for PMLN and this is the reason Pakistan is in a hopeless crisis.

No my brain washed child, GEO did a good brain washing of your likes, you only know what the media Mr. 35 Puncture has told on screen. Dictators are bad. They question the corrupt and try to be patriotic. Only PMLN is good, they are your kings and you are to serve them. They only build roads and all you need are roads. They steal other parties projects and you must clap for their pathetic mall rd banner trashing. They have nothing to give to the nation only to invest in offshore companies but you must appreciate your masters are getting rich while you and your family suffers. Heck I could go on but I guess the answer above me is more than factual and if it doesn't convince you, then there is no other power on this earth which can convince you.

@Peregrine_Falcon Thank you for the amazing answer it covers every point.

Look at yourself. Mr 35 puncture is the one about whom Imran khan had to give written apology in court and admit it that was a syasi bayan. Just like what Pmln said in court and did in Parliament.

You are brain washed against the politician. But people will chose who is going to lead them, not some minorities like u.

You dont even have a real nick name and you think your words will have any credibility. Full of prejudice.

  • Pakistan re-entered the international bond and equity markets by floating Eurobonds and Global Depository Receipts (GDR). Pakistan also succeeded in floating a 30 year Eurobond which showed the confidence of the global investors in Pakistan.

No doubt Pakistani economy grew at 7, but what happend later on is due to Musharaf as he allowed Zardari to rule this country for next 5 years. Which was a death certificate for the economy. Now GDP is again 4.5 and trying to improve with so many other indicators..

The same international institutes which praised Musharaf's economy are now praising Nawaz economy and all the work he has done. This is pretty much all i have to say on economy.

Dont forget that these politicians were the one who left Musharaf with surplus electricity and he on the other hand failed to capitalize the situation and build hydro-electric to replace IPPs.

@Musketeeer Awwww......did I hurt your ego? I'm full of prejudice? You seriously think it was Musharraf who made Zardari a president? Didn't Nawaz form a coalition government with Mr 10% by supporting him for president and Mr Chotay Mian was again awarded his favorite seat the CM Punjab?

The same international institutes which praised Musharaf's economy are now praising Nawaz economy and all the work he has done. This is pretty much all i have to say on economy.

You say Musharraf's economic policies were fragmented but when the same institutions praise PMLN they are accurate? WOW, how twisted your facts are.

“The outcome of the program is Pakistan was saved from default and now can live for two more years with this amount of reserves,” said Ashfaque Hasan Khan, a former finance ministry adviser and now dean at the business school at Islamabad’s National University of Sciences and Technology. “They will say we have achieved economic independence, this will be used in the election.” from https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...t-what-the-economy-is-like-without-safety-net

You dont even have a real nick name
LOL another PMLN minded tactic. Stooping low to personal attacks? I am a girl and I'm brave enough to use my name and pic but look at you, a nickname so no one can guess who you are.

You buy Josh e Khitabat not us bro.

One more thing...........we all are still waiting for the glorious gift you were about to mention in contrast to Rescue 1122

I think you didn't read this correctly

According to the 1994 Power Policy, even if the gov't did not consume electricity, the government was required to pay 60% of the capacity to respective IPPs.

1250 MW Ghazi Brotha HydroElectric Power Project was started and even completed by Musharaf gov't. 969 MW Neelum Jehlum HydroElectric Power Project was also started by Musharaf.Gomal Zam Dam, Sabakzai Dam, Satpara Dam and Mangla Dam raising projects were also completed during his tenure.

CHASNUP-1 and CHASNUP 2 were also completed in his tenure.

Metro in three cities for students and poor citizens, motorways connecting almost every division, a lot of new hospitals, Knowledge park coming soon, end of load shedding very soon, punjab forensic science lab(slowly expanding to all divisions), better and improved railway for really really poor people only. Some crazy people would think that these things does't matter at all, but in reality these are the toys of human development, to raise their lifestyle.
These are even more important than creating 1122 for only 5 cities, which would have merely cost 10-20 crore. (keeping in mind that SS continued building, 5 times more 1122 than what Pervez Ilahi could build)

My ego has nothing to do with u or what you say. You dont matter much to me. You are prisoner of your ideology, you cant see what is developing and getting better in Pakistan.
