Military offensive: 9 Taliban militants killed, 5 injured in Kurram Agency

KOHAT: Helicopter gunships pounded the hideouts of militants in central Kurram Agency, near the Pak-Afghan border, killing nine suspected Taliban militants and injuring five others on Monday, claimed official sources in an area marred by sectarian violence for over a decade.
During the early hours today, helicopter gunships pounded militant hideouts in the Ali Sherzai area of central Kurram Agency, where the local population has been evacuated to carry out an operation against militants.
“Nine militants were killed and five were injured,” claimed an official.
Local sources said, “The security forces destroyed suspected militant hideouts in Myanzki Kandao and other areas throughout the night.”
“A shell struck a hideout last night killing three militants,” they added.
However, none of the claims could be independently verified.
Earlier, this month Shahab Ali Shah, the political agent of Kurram Agency said that the residents of Ali Sherzai were been evacuated to launch a military offensive in the area against Fazal Saeed Haqqani Group, a splinter group of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) led by Fazal Saeed, who has claimed responsibility for several deadly attacks which killed scores of people.
Officials have claimed that 95% of the Agency has been cleared of militants, while the offensive will clear the rest of the areas of “non-state actors”

Ammunition seized at Torkham

LANDIKOTAL: A bid to smuggle cartridges/bullets from Afghanistan into Pakistan was foiled on Saturday by the Khasadar Force at Torkham border, official sources said. Khasadar Force personnel stopped a truck at the border and found 9,960 sniper gun cartridges and 10,200 9mm gun bullets from the hidden cavities of the vehicle. Truck driver Malik and conductor Kamal, both of whom who hailed from Nangarhar, Afghnistan, were arrested and sent to Landikotal jail for investigation, sources said. staff report

BARA: A least four terrorists were killed and several others were injured in clashes with security forces on Monday. One volunteer of a peace committee was also killed in the fire exchange. According to details, security forces along with volunteers of the peace committee, conducted search operation against terrorists in Tirah Valley of the Khyber Agency. On being attacked, the terrorists resisted and fired back at the troops, killing a volunteer of the peace committee, which led to a heavy exchange of fire. Four terrorists were killed as a result, while several others were injured. It should be mentioned that the Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency has remained in the grip of terrorists and hundreds of them have been killed, including dozens of security personnel and members of the peace committee. 12 militants killed as fighter jets bomb militant hideouts in Orakzai

PESHAWAR: Twelve militants were reportedly killed when fighter jets bombed insurgent hideouts in parts of northwest Pakistan’s Orakzai tribal region, DawnNews reported on Wednesday.

An unspecified number of militants was also reported wounded in the assault that destroyed four hideouts in the tribal region, security sources told DawnNews.

The hideouts were situated in Orakzai’s Mamozai, Sama bazaar and Manzar Taap areas.

The casualty figures from the reported action could not be independently verified.

Security sources say over 92 per cent of Orakzai has been cleared of militants in the ongoing military operation in the region.

The sources say 507 militants have been killed in the operation during which 36 security forces’ personnel have also lost their lives.

Four militants killed in Orakzai clash

ORAKZAI: In a clash between militants and security forces, at least four militants were killed in Orakzai agency on Sunday, DawnNews reported.

The clash took place when the security forces advanced in to Gandital area of Orakzai agency, government sources said.

A key militant commander was also among four casualties.

Air force jets pound militant hideouts

PESHAWAR: Security forces fighter jets pounded various suspected militant hideouts in Orakzai Agency’s Mamozai, Jandarkhel and Samaa Bazaar areas, DawnNews reported.

Ten suspected militants were reportedly killed by the shelling.

The bombardment left three suspected militant hideouts completely destroyed.

A military operation is being conducted in Upper Kurram Agency and ninety five per cent of the area has been cleared of militants.

Another blitz by the Air forces jets killed five suspected militants in Khyber tribal agency’s Tirah valley area.

Earlier a military operation was conducted in Lower Kurram area and militants were cleared from the area upon completion of the operation.

The current operation encompasses Central Kurram, Orakzai and Khyber Agency areas

7 suspects arrested, explosives recovered near Kuchlak

QUETTA: Police claimed to have averted a major tragedy after it rounded up seven suspects near Kuchlak, on the outskirts of Quetta on Wednesday and seized large amounts of explosives from two vehicles.

According to Police official Jalal Tareen, a truck and a pickup were on their way from Zhob district to Quetta, when police deputed near Kuchlak intercepted them and recovered a large cache of explosives packed in separate bags were recovered.

Police said they recovered 2,00 explosives, 110 landmines, 2,980 detonators, 6800 remote control system, 11 double battery device, 11 walkie-talkies along with batteries, 115 fuse, 3,000 meter detonator cord and 3200 kg potassium (used in explosives).

“Two vehicles were packed with explosive materials were en route to Quetta from Zhob when intercepted by New Kuchlak Police near Bostan Patakh,” Capital City Police Officer Quetta Mir Zubair Mehmood told the reporters.

All seven suspects, three of them Afghan nationals, were arrested and shifted to a police station for questioning.

“The suspects were smuggling explosive materials from Zhob to Quetta, apparently for subversive activities in the provincial capital,” said the official. He added that the suspects were currently being questioned.

The suspects were identified as Mohammad Khan, Rehmat, Rafiullah, Abdul Hakeem, Mira Jan and Hazebullah.

Kurram Agency clash: 3 security officials injured, 6 militants killed

HANGU: Three security officials were injured when clashes erupted between militants and security forces in Jogi area of central Kurram Agency on Friday. Officials claimed to have killed six militants and injured five in retaliation.

According to a security official, a clash erupted around 11:00am in which a captain, including two other officials, was injured when they advanced to clear the area of militants.

Security official said that the injured personnel were rushed to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Thall.

Jogi is the area where security forces have consistently been attacked by militants. The Kurram operation has prolonged, as it shares boundaries with Orakzai Agency and North Waziristan on the Pak-Afghan border, making the region difficult to control

Helicopter shelling kills 8 militants in Orakzai

ORAKZAI: At least eight militants were killed and three were injured in a military operation on Friday during helicopter shelling by the security forces in Orakzai agency, DawnNews reported.

The security forces shelled with the gunship-helicopters in the area of Mela in upper Orakzai, Frontier Corps (FC) official said.

According to the sources, three militant hideouts have also been destroyed in the operation.

The decisive operation is being carried on in the areas of Mamuzai, Khudezai, Sama Bazaar of Orakzai agency.

Authorities claim that 95 per cent area of Orakzai agency has been cleared from the militants.

Fighter jets pound militant hideouts in Khyber; 5 killed

PESHAWAR: Five militants were reportedly killed on Saturday in an assault by fighter jets in the northwestern Khyber tribal region, DawnNews reported.

Two insurgent hideouts were also destroyed in the assault in the tribal region’s Sarawela area, DawnNews quoted government sources as saying.

The casualty figures from the reported action could not be independently verified.

Sources further said that the operation in the region had picked up pace since Friday’s clash with militants from the Kokikhel tribe.

In another incident in the tribal region’s Zakhakhel region in Tirah, volunteers from the local Tauhidul Islam organisation detained a would-be suicide bomber.

The detained would-be bomber was planning to target a camp of the FC in Khyber.

Pakistan’s seven tribal districts near the Afghan border are rife with homegrown insurgents and are alleged to be strongholds of Taliban and al Qaeda operatives.

Militants have killed more than 4,800 people across Pakistan since July 2007.

MOHMAND: Security forces killed at least 20 insurgents in retaliation to an attack on the Salala outpost in Mohmand Agency during the wee hours of Tuesday, Geo News reported.

The aggressing insurgents, however, succeeded in wounding at least four of the troops deployed at the military outpost, which had seen so much bloodshed earlier.

Analysts say, it was strange as to why the militants chose the same Salala outpost where the US forces had martyred more than two dozen Pakistani soldiers last year.

Militants attack Salala checkpost | DAWN.COM

MOHMAND AGENCY: Militants armed with heavy weapons attacked a checkpost in the Pak-Afghan border area of Salala killing four security personnel on Monday, DawnNews reported.

Retaliatory firing by the security personnel at the checkpost killed 20 militants.

No government official was available to verify the incident.

The border checkpost situated at Salala gained international exposure after a US military helicopter attacked a military checkpost of the Pakistan military killing 24 soldiers in November last year.

The attack further strained the rollercoaster relations between the two countries and as a result Pakistan had blocked the route of Nato supplies demanding an apology.
