Pakistani film Dukhtar to release in Japan
The 2014 film Dukhtar is still making waves internationally and will be the first Pakistani film to release in Japan

Even with our cinema industry under works, Pakistan has still managed to churn out movies that have received international acclaim. One such film is the 2014 movie Dukhtar. The film was premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival on 5 September, and was selected as Pakistan's Official entry in the category Best Foreign Language Film for the 87th Academy Awards. It was also Pakistan's second consecutive submission to the Oscars after Zinda Bhaag.
However, even after two years, the film is still making waves internationally and will be the first Pakistani feature film to release in Japan. Yes, we know Japanese cinema is known for their thought provoking and unique story line, hence we couldn’t help but feel proud that one of our movies will be showcased to the Japanese audience.
Dukhtar (daughter), is a story of a ten-year-old Pakistani girl who has to face the problem of child marriage. However, her mother kidnaps her to help her escape the suffocating life of a child stuck in a marriage with an older man. The movie which was based on the rights that women deserve, was directed by Afia Nathaniel, and apart from an interesting story line and brilliant acting, Dukhtar is also popular for its stunning cinematography.
