ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday welcomed the formation of a 34-nation Saudi Arabia-led military alliance to combat terrorism and extremism and said it was awaiting further details to decide the extent of its participation in different activities of the alliance.

The spokesman was responding to a question regarding the announcement of an alliance of Islamic countries against terrorism, by the Saudi Defence Minister Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud and the scope of its involvement.

The Spokesman said Pakistan has consistently supported all regional and international efforts to combat militancy, extremism and terrorism and, to this end, has extended full support and cooperation to international community.

“It is in this context that Pakistan welcomes the formation of the 34-nation alliance to counter terrorism and is awaiting further details to decide the extent of its participation in different activities of the alliance,” the Spokesman said.

He mentioned the 42nd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Kuwait this year, in which Pakistan had reiterated its commitment to relevant UN and OIC resolutions on combating terrorism and extremism.

Pakistan also called for joining regional and international efforts to fight terrorism and extremist thought.

Full statement

“As is well known, Pakistan has consistently supported all regional and international efforts to combat militancy, extremism and terrorism and, to this end, has extended its full support and cooperation to international community.

“It is in this context that Pakistan welcomes the formation of the 34-Nation alliance to counter terrorism and is awaiting further details to decide the extent of its participation in different activities of the alliance.

“It would be recalled that the Forty-Second Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Kuwait this year had reiterated its commitment to relevant UN and OIC resolutions on combating terrorism and extremism and called for joining regional and international efforts to fight terrorism and extremist thought.

“Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoy close, cordial, and brotherly relations. Both countries condemn terrorism and cooperate in the efforts to eliminate this menace. – NML

This is Good, Rational and obvious choice of things needs to pursue in the best interest of whole Pakistani Nation. Neutrality option will be diminished day by day, month by month, year by year eventually. Therefore, instead of ending up standing alone better to chose tested companions which stands with you in every hour in past.

The unanimously approved Parliamentary resolution protecting KSA will go a long way in this endeavor. That document will turns out historic and bases for many more things in future.

In most military alliances the member that can bring the most powerful forces to bear upon the enemy is the leader. Is that really what's going on here?

''Turkey, the only country in the alliance that is also a NATO member, welcomed the new coalition. Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu called it the "best response to those who are trying to associate terror and Islam."

"We believe that this effort by Muslim countries is a step in the right direction," Davutoglu said.

"Turkey is ready to contribute by all its means to all gatherings that aim to fight terrorism, no matter where or by whom they are organised," Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told reporters in Ankara.''

A positive development from our brother Saudi Arabia at the right time. Go for it.

Didn't participating in Yemen War on the unanimously passed parliamentary resolution was a blessing in disguise in shape of getting a unanimous approval for protecting KSA & holy sights after all.

Now, our active participating in ME has all the necessary covers and our leaders both military and civilian planning for it in details for quite sometime. Increase in army recruitment, keeping our eastern neighbor at bay, successful Indo Pak contributed conference on Afghanistan, back channel diplomacy on Kashmir borders, you will see progress on all these fronts simultaneously.

i wish we had leaders like turkey has but i think Pakistan will seriously consider this alliance.

1st time muslims are gathering after the ottoman khallafat (empire). Greatest development, very need of the time. May Allah Kaream bring brighter days for muslims. Wheel of time has to and is turning.

Pakistanis who are prepogating for neutrality....didn't exactly know what they are talking about actually and in the longer run.

I mean, how can one sees
Brothers dying before our own eyes or
Houties roaming around holy sights...or
a 'Gulf' without Pakistani Shurtas or
active/retires Army personals w/o swamping GCC armies.

This alliance is where......where we actually belongs!!

Even having the name of Pakistan in the list, will shake Russia to back down and save hundreds of thousands people in Syria and Iraq front... Nobody will dare to fight against this Alliance. either all together, or they will plan games on us one by one...

Pakistan should join this Muslim Alliance against terrorism. We should help Muslims countries to combat terrorism.

Pakistan FO statement. And end of discussion .

" It is Pakistani government’s policy that it will not deploy its troops outside the country’s borders except for UN peacekeeping missions."

This 'coalition' is a failure that is directed against all political opposition. Once again I reiterate that the Mujahideen are the solution to the region and we demand their rule. We don't want to be ruled by corrupt leaders who commit zina and consume alcohol and oppose Islam.

We want the culture of Rasoolallah and not the culture of these wicked regimes.
