KARACHI: Minister of National Defence of Turkey, Hulusi Akar held delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated the deep-rooted strategic cooperation between the two brotherly countries in all fields including shipbuilding, engineering, solid waste management and transport.

He also thanked the government and people of Turkey for their unwavering support to Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir issue at all international forums.

The Prime Minister directed the authorities concerned to benefit from Turkish expertise and experience in all possible avenues.

He extended his heartfelt gratitude to the government and people of Turkey for their strong commitment in helping Pakistan develop robust institutions such as Karachi Shipyard which has been transformed into a profit-earning organisation over the years due to Turkish support.

Minister for Defence Production Israr Tarin, Minister for Water Resources Syed Khursheed Shah, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi, SAPM on Strategic and Political Communication Syed Fahad Hussain and other senior officers also attended the meeting.

Models to be manufactured under the LRIP and Serial Production Phases. In this context, Turkish Aerospace applied to the US Government for 5 engines in 2019 and 5 engines in 2021 to procure a total of 10 engines in two separate batches.

Turkey officially changes name at UN to 'Turkiye'​

Turkey has told the United Nations that, at the behest of its president, it wishes from now on to be called “Turkiye” in all languages, the UN announced on Thursday.

“The change is immediate,” Stephane Dujarric, the UN chief's spokesperson, told AFP by email.
He noted that Ankara's official letter requesting the change had been received at the UN's New York headquarters on Wednesday.

The day before, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavasoglu had tweeted a photo of himself signing the letter, addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

“With the letter I sent to the UN Secretary General today, we are registering our country's name in foreign languages at the UN as 'Turkiye,'” he wrote, including an umlaut over the “u”.

He added that the change would bring to an end the process of “increasing the brand value of our country”, an initiative started by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has led the country for almost two decades
