Pakistan tour of West Indies 2017

Lewis smashed sixes to every Pakistani bowler with his score 91 and WI won quiet easily

Now its 2-1 with last match to go

When you enter the international scene, there is a novelty about you and you perform well until the other side catches up to you. nowadays video sessions are the key in figuring out your strengths. It happened to Saqlain with his doosra, it happened to yasir with his flipper and it will ultimately happen to shadab. A bowler must have 2 stock balls so that he can rotate the use. That's why Warne was so successful and so was qadir. Shadab must improve his flipper to be effective down the road and yasir his googly and control.

Yep you was right today, Shadab got smashed all over the place, he is still very young, so he needs to develop the skill on outsmarting the batsman with different varieties.

Pakistan beat West Indies by 7 wickets in 4th T20 to win the series by 3-1. Shadab Khan is the Man of the Series.

April 2, 2017: West Indies v Pakistan, 4th T20I, Port of Spain Hasan Ali changed the course of the game then with his second spell which read 2-2-0-2

Where the game was won

The middle overs. Yes they exist in T20. For further proof, Hasan did most of his damage through inswingers, which, for him, come out best with an old ball. Three out of his four overs came after the first 10 when West Indies fell from a respectable 59 for 2 to a silly 87 for 6. A slide like that might have been justified if there had been a spree of magic deliveries or an invasion of pitch demons. But all Hasan did was bowl full and straight. He understood that was enough by watching the West Indian batsmen set up on leg stump, and wait on the back foot, preferring to have room to free the arms and flat bat sixes.

The men who who won it

Hasan had been hit for a six off the third delivery he bowled. The punishment was dealt to a good length ball - the same kind with which he profited later in the innings. Then he still stuck to his strengths against a team known for its big hitting was a sign of the 23-year old's self-belief. It helped, though, that when he came on for his second spell - 2-2-0-2 - West Indies were stuck in a rut. They were falling behind in the innings and tried to hit their way out of trouble. Not a sensible thing to do against a bowler harnessing a little bit of reverse swing.

The instigator of the choke, though, was Shadab Khan, the legspinner. So a lot of credit should go to him too. He also dismissed the opposition's best batsman on the day - Walton - by teasing him into big shot that only went as far as long-on. The reason for that was the dip the 18-year old generated. In much the same way, he deceived Jason Holder in the 16th over. And though he didn't get Kieron Pollard, he was beating his outside edge repeatedly.

Moment of the match

Marlon Samuels had just struck back-to-back sixes. He has turned low totals into match-winning ones before and has had phenomenal success in finals both actual and virtual. There were no such heroics on Sunday because, on the heels of being involved in a bizarre run-out, his middle stump took a beating. Hasan's wicket-to-wicket line was poorly negotiated by Samuels, who stayed leg side of the ball and attempted a lame glide to third man. His knees buckled and as he sank to the floor, there was almost a look of begrudging approval of a delivery that had been too good for him.

Where they stand

Pakistan clinched the four-match T20I series 3-1. The two teams resume their limited-overs battle in the three-match ODI series starting in Guyana on April 7.

This T20 team can beat the likes of WI, ZIM, maybe SL, but will struggle against all other teams. It needs power hitters in the 6, 7, 8 spots, by that l mean genuine all rounders. The last genuine all rounder we had was Abdul Razzaq. There is no one on the horizon. T20 cricket is about all rounders who can turn the match around in a few balls.

A good series win Team / Coaching staff deserve some accolades for their "Series Win"

Once ineffective Professor and Sohail Tanvir were pulled out of Squad we saw how the bails started to fall

Next 3 games crucial for both Pakistan and WI.
If Pakistan wins all 3, Pakistan stays at 8
7)Ban - 92
8)Pak - 92
9)WI - 80
If WI wins all 3, WI move up to 8

Pakistan ranked 4th in ICC T20I rankings
  • With their victory in the four-match Pakistan-West Indies T20 International series held in the Caribbean islands, the green shirts have been bumped up to the fourth position in the latest International Cricket Council's T20I rankings.

Pakistan previously ranked sixth in the list.

With a rating of 117 and 3,398 points, Pakistan, which won the series against West Indies 3-1, currently stand behind South Africa by a meager 8-points difference. England rank fifth on the chart after Pakistan by a 40-points margin.

West Indies, the reigning World T20 champions, now stand sixth in the ICC T20I rankings with 2,906 points and a rating of 112.

Since Pakistan did not win the series by 4-0, it failed to replace South Africa in the top three ranks.

Hafeez should retire , as he is not contributing much these days and Sohail Tanveer is also quite shady not a true strike bowler more less a support bowler in larger format of the game

Teenage spinner Shadab Khan turning heads

Pakistan has a long history of unearthing raw, talented players and in teenage leg-spinner Shadab Khan, it looks like they may have discovered another star in the making.

The 18-year-old made his international debut in last week's Twenty20 series against the West Indies and could hardly have been more impressive, capturing 10 wickets against the world champions to be named player of the series.

His main attacking weapon is the googly — a delivery that spins from the off side towards leg — baffling batsmen expecting the ball to turn the other way.

“I know my googlies are getting famous, but that's not the only one,” Shadab told Associated Press from Guyana on Monday.

“I really work hard on leg-spin and flippers too and will try to be the best in all three varieties.”

Shadab caught the eye of the senior national selectors when he played in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for defending champions Islamabad United led by test captain Misbah-ul-Haq.

His took nine wickets in eight matches and was rewarded for his efforts by being fast-tracked into the Pakistan limited-overs squad for the series against the West Indies.

Pakistan's limited-overs captain Sarfraz Ahmed expects Shadab could play test matches in the near future if he continues his rapid progression.

“I believe that if I put in more hard work, I will definitely get more rewards in international cricket,” Shadab said.

A reluctant spinner, Shadab comes from Mianwali, which is also the home town of Misbah and Pakistan's World Cup winning skipper Imran Khan.

In 2010, he shifted to Rawalpindi, the hometown of another Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar, and like millions of Pakistani youngsters, his first love was pace bowling.

It was only when he was at the Siddique Akbar Club in Rawalpindi that he was spotted by the club's president Sajjad Ahmed, who encouraged him to try wrist spin.

“When I started playing club cricket I used to be a fast bowler,” Shadab said. “But then our president of the club told me to start bowling leg-spin and I started working hard on this art.”

Ahmed said he immediately knew Shadab had the talent to play at the highest level.

“He worked hard and I knew that he would get his chance at international level,” Ahmed told the AP.

It wasn't long before others began to think the same. In 2015, Shadab was part of the Pakistan Under-17 team which played against England in the United Arab Emirates. He took 10 wickets in four one-day games.

Last year, he was the joint leading wicket-taker with 11 wickets at the Under-19 World Cup. He was promoted to the Pakistan A team and made his first class debut against Sri Lanka, scoring 48 runs and taking five wickets. Then he followed that by taking 14 wickets and hitting 132 runs in the series against Zimbabwe A.

Shadab has been fine-tuning his skills under the guidance of United's coaches Dean Jones and Wasim Akram and also with Mushtaq Ahmed at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

“I used to bowl wide of the crease and later I was taught by Dean Jones which has benefited me a lot.”

The former Australian international batsman Jones said he could not be more impressed by the attributes he sees in Shadab.

“The very first time Akram and I saw Shadab in the nets, we looked at each other and said, 'this boy is pure gold',” Jones told www.PakPassion.com.

“He is an interesting player to coach and I have said this before as well, that for an 18-year-old-kid he has the head of a 30-year-old on him. He has pretty much hit the ground running and yes, he will get whacked a few times in his career but Pakistan have something special there.”

Pakistan broke the record for the highest innings score at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, setting West Indies 309 to win the first of four ODIs. Their innings came to life in the last 10 overs after they fell away briefly in the middle overs. Their success at keeping wickets in hand, combined with the brilliant ball-striking of Shoaib Malik ensured they went past the 303 that had been the record for this ground.

The groundwork was laid by Ahmed Shehzad and Mohammad Hafeez after Pakistan were put in to bat on a newly laid surface. If Shehzad and fellow opener Kamran Akmal, returning to the ODI side after a four-year gap, were unsure of how the pitch would play, they didn't show it, attacking at every available opportunity, and not afraid of hitting the ball in the air; they added 59 in the first 10 overs.

West Indies, somewhat bafflingly, held spinners Devendra Bishoo and Ashley Nurse back, preferring to bowl part-timer Jason Mohammad in the Powerplay instead. He was both erratic and expensive despite opening with a maiden over. Jason Holder, the captain, was the only fast bowler consistent with his line and length in the first half of the innings, and consequently by far the most economical, conceding just 15 runs in his first 6 overs.

Pakistan although has runs on the scoreboard but they played 140+ dot ball today, that equals to roughly 25 maiden overs!! they may still win against this minnow WI which is missing a majority of the key players who were part of the WC winning team, but will be exposed against any half decent team.

Quite a drubbing in return innings by West Innings , Pakistan Bowlers no longer have "teeth"
a fully deserved loss
