Pakistan to install air defence system at Pak-Afghan border

If Pak had secretly inducted FT-2000, then why brag about it now and make the enemy wary of it's existence????? Doesn't make sense.

In the hope that by declaring in advance the PakMil excludes any responsibility in the eventuality that USAF still engages men on the ground for further dubious reasons. Now they have been warned that the men on the ground will defend themselves against any aggression and may well be equipped for the better.

Pakistan said EXACTLY the same thing after the raid on Osama's hideout in Abottabad. But no action was taken and it was back to business as usual!

Will this AD deployment see the light of day now? Or will they forget and forgive again, until the next incident takes place? Let's wait and see!

But then it would perhaps be a bad idea to deploy SAMs to take on NATO air assets! This could turn into a bash-up that could spread to other areas and not remain confined to a particular area of operations. A graduated but quick response from both sides would spell disaster especially for Pakistan. The only viable option would be to deploy shoulder fired missiles and AA guns against intruding choppers.

And then, how effective are radars in the terrain obtaining on the AFPAK border. The ground clutter will render much of it ineffective against low flying targets.

Cheers!

Things are very very different from when they were at abbatabad raid as the US forces did not target military men, here they martyred soldiers who were defending their country as opposed to stealing something covertly (which in all possibility could have been planned with PakMil as exit strategy by carrying out a make belief operation of killing OBL who was in all certainty already dead). But this incident has invited the wrath of Pakistan Military as otherwise Kiyani was facing an ever increasing chance of military coup to throw him out for continuously accepting the deaths of his countrymen.....a task for which he is paid and sworn!

Well jury is still out weather it was Pakistan's Anza or an American supplied Stinger (From Afghan jihad reserves) that was used..but rest assured what you face today is much more advance than a 45 yr old airplane..which had no countermeasures for even simplest of these missiles.

dont be too sure...
both anza ans apache have yet to be tested against each other.

at least due to the presence of the missiles they wont be raining bullets while hovering above a checkpost...and will have to attack from
distance which wi be limited

Remember, these are american trained, american friends in the PA. They have been trained never to take arms against the US and that's how they secured promotions and leadership in the PA. They have been bred to take america as an invincible power.
Yes! U absolutely right ...our Army elite as well as Civil Govt and eastablishment ruling elites are nothing but slaves of the US/West. They know that they can't fight US/NATO cuz they have no Emaan in them. They have no trust in Allah SBWT. They just sitting on their positions for their paychecks only. Never been faithful to our country. We will see their bigg big claims that they will do this and do that very soon...Cuz the new US/NATO attack is coming very soon and will shake everything from the top to the bottom...We will find out clearly written on the wall , who is sincere and who is traitor......:smokin:

Yup, ten years after the Afghan war finished, the Stingers were still effective. ??? :disagree:

And once if Anza hits it's target, you Indians will call it a lucky shot. :cheesy:
As for the shooting down of the Indian MiGs, read to your heart's content.
On 27 May 1999, the Anza Mk-II was used to attack Indian aircraft during the Kargil conflict with India. A MiG-21 and a MiG-27 of the Indian Air Force were shot down by Pakistan Army Air Defence forces.[16]

That's classified.
If that's classified, keep things classified. Or else don't be surprised when someone in uniform turn up at your home.
HQ-9 and Spada 2000 are designed to engage bogies at medium and high altitudes, not helicopters that fly at low altitudes.

True eagle. But the Fighters do violate the airspace too. Not only this time, not on May 2, but it has done it over 3 dozen times.
As the thing is for helicopter, one thing really disturbing is that Boulder post had AntiAircraft Artillery which was fired, but the copters survived it. The units were equipped with AAA which failed? Loophole in the story!

Anyways use of HQ-9 and Spada 2000 would be really expensive. If you can get one thing done for a few hundred dollars, why do you use thousands??!

I still don't see any SAM being fired.

MANPADS such as the Anza, may not be effective in shooting down a NATO birds, since they have highly advanced ECM.
But they could well take one down given a decent range, MANPADS are cheap and in good supply, wouldn't surprised if a group of soldiers could ripple fire, or even a single soldier could well manage more then one round. If that doesn't take it down, at least it gives an incentive to disengage, besides you tend not to look for something to shoot at when you have a missile coming your way.

good move !but those can only missile destroy helicopter . to target high flying drone Pakistan might need some thing else .

that something else would be anti radiation missiles.....as the drones are always transmitting.

Air Defence System another joke by pakistani security establishment
actually pakistani army in order to save their skin and salvage their hubris from the ignominious incident of OBL is trying to bluff the nation with such gimmicks
watch kamran shahid saying that in press conference conducted by DGMO general nadeem he claimed the attack on salala was a blunt naked aggression and when asked what is the solution then DGMO opined we cannot fight nato and american technology
so if you cannot fight there technology them what good you make by installing air defence system

I am surprised at this point, I am impressed. You know, I always talked about the need of S-300. Again, why disclose information here despite unofficial rumours or no announcement ?

+1

EDIT: http://www.defence.pk/forums/wmd-mi...ese-interceptor-missile-defense-2012-a-2.html, it was joke or something.

This is just to diversify the inventory for high altitude interceptors and increase the numbers. I was never going to reveal this sensitive information online, but some punk revealed this information long time ago on the net so i guess its safe to talk about it now. At current, Pakistan has deployed FT2000 that consists of anti radiation missiles and the regular HQ-9. HQ-18 are more advanced and a joint team which consisted of Army and Air Force personal were extremely impressed with the performance of HQ-18 during trials. The will is there but the funding is not to acquire HQ-18, lets see what happens.

Firing 12.7MM AAA guns against an Apache is like throwing stones at a an ABRAM tank, there is simply no comparison. If the posts were equipped with Anza MANPADS the soldier would be extremely lucky to get a direct hit against the Apache as they are equipped with an EW pod that jams any incoming MANPAD missile. Even if the missile does strike the Apache, its thick armour will ensure that the helicopter can absorb the attack. The only way to get the Apache would be to come right underneath it and fire by surprise, reduction in response time will increase the probability of a kill. The best way to bring down an Apache is through low altitude SAM system or fighter jets, but that would be an invitation for war.

Does this include drone violations also ?

Certainly "NOT". Our military pundits don't consider that as a violation.

Actually, drones attack in Fata region is a joint PAK-US strategy. against Al-Qaida and talibans. PA often pass on information regarding high value targets in fata for drone strikes. GoP and PA also took the credit of killings of high value targets in drone attacks.

Don't you remember Bait-ullah Mehsood, Ilyas Kashmiri, Qari Hussain and many other wiped out in joint efforts.

They will NEVER show up in uniform.. the dress code is Shalwar kameez with Wastcot.. :azn:

.

Unfortunately we have too many folks with Chacha's and Mama's place but no concept of discretion.
The HQ-9 based complex(multiple quick deployment sites) was "soft announced" by an Urdu daily some two years back.
so its not classified.. but its not disclosed either.
