Pakistan to install air defence system at Pak-Afghan border

Pakistan didn't learn anything from the first incident (OBL raid), second incident (Mehran) and now third (border attacks). It shows our system is no difference from other country (ie. Arab). Sure, we are not Arab or something better than them. We are much same levels as them.

Believe me, Pakistan will make another lume excuses and blame on communications, radars (switch on/off), engines, and maybe SAMs.

This article means nothing to prevent West powers. Pakistan will continue to fool us in the public.

For SPADA, it is specifically designed for India, not others. Still in the eastern borders.

no worry. India doesn't have plan to attack Pakistan. Please dance peacefully. ;)

Don't worry my friend.. it's not that simple. Had that been the case, they would have taken out Pakistan already...

If this news is true then it implies that our military fears that there could be further 'adventures' from NATO. But why was this step not taken after OBL raid ? (given that NATO used stealth cloak but even then ... stealth doesn't mean complete disaaperence and there r some countermeasures) ... I can bet on my life that US will never 'invade' Pakistan (because not only they cannot afford another venture but also Pakistan will be a hell of a lot more nightmare for them then Iraq /Afghanistan ) and there are/will be differences between US Military and white House Baron (who ever wins in 2012) on what to do ?

Thanks GOD, our Army don't count your views :chilli:

Its better to be prepared than to be sorry... and why was it not taken immediately after OBL raid? i believe that every deal needs some time to get finalized..

what about any Chinese system

Since western bought stuff would be useless against NATO forces (in medium and long run, even if there is gain in short term), it is naturally going to be Chinese SAMs which are immune to any blockage.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The Pakistani army is bolstering air defenses along its Afghan border, including deploying shoulder-to-air missiles, officials said this week — a move that could threaten NATO aircraft and reflects the depths of anger and suspicion here after a deadly NATO airstrike.

Underlining how just raw the wounds still are within the Pakistani army, the head of military operations, Maj. Gen. Ashfaq Nadeem, told a Pakistani Senate committee Thursday that the strike in November that killed 24 soldiers was “a pre-planned conspiracy” and warned that Pakistan could expect more such attacks “from our supposed allies,” local newspapers reported.

It is a view widely shared within the military and among the general public here — that the United States carried out the attack to punish Pakistan for allowing Islamist militants to use its territory to launch attacks in Afghanistan.

The United States has expressed condolences to Pakistan for the “regrettable incident” but says it will not respond to demands for an apology until the Pentagon completes an investigation. The probe’s findings are not due to be released until Dec. 23.

Pakistan responded to the attack by closing U.S. and coalition military supply routes to Afghanistan and also boycotted an international conference in Germany on the future of Afghanistan.

But the latest move, potentially threatening NATO jets in the border region, underlines the depth of distrust in a relationship that many observers here say is now irreparably damaged, despite billions of dollars of U.S. aid to Pakistan over the past decade.

“Primarily it will be early warning systems, but there will be certain weapons deployed in certain areas,” deputy military spokesman Brig. Gen. Azmat Ali said Friday, stressing that the move was defensive rather than offensive in nature.

“It became very embarrassing for our troops. They were killed like sitting ducks,” he said, adding that the decision had been taken in response to pressure from the troops themselves. “If there is another attack, they should have something to defend themselves.”

Military officers said there were already some short-range anti-aircraft guns in the border region, but more had been deployed since May 2, when U.S. helicopters flew into Pakistan unnoticed to carry out a raid to kill Osama bin Laden.

Radar systems have also been upgraded since the Nov. 26 NATO airstrike, and shoulder-to-air missiles have been deployed in the border region along with small contingents of troops trained in their use, a military official said.

The rules of engagement have also changed: After the airstrike, army chief Ashfaq Pervez Kayani told commanders along the border they could return fire without awaiting permission from central command, as had been the case in the past.

“The field commanders have been provided with surface-to-air missiles that can be fired from the shoulder,” said a senior military official in Peshawar who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters. “The missile system is run by a small team of three to four military people who are trained in firing the missiles.”

Why pakistan is diverting its limited resources??

or you recognizes that India is not a threat?

luckily pakistan manufactures these shoulder mounted missiles locally and can make as many ascrequired...so this does not count as "limited resources"

Anza shoulder launched missiles are produced in Pakistan, hence there is no question of limited resources, in-fact it's even been exported....... as for India, other systems are in place to neutralize any threat from Eastern border.

This but a "Dil ko Tasalli dene wali move"..will have no real military significance..Shoulder fired missile against NATO's assets deployed in the region, are almost useless.

These missiles pose no threat NATO's high flying aircrafts and drones ..and have a very limited effectiveness against NATO's helis ..as almost all of them have missile approach warning sys and countermeasures for heat seeking missiles.

Best counter against an aircraft is an another aircraft ..if Pakistanis are serious about tackling the NATO threat..they should divert some of their aircrafts to the region, put them on round the clock CAP or atleast short scramble alert in the region..as use to happen during Soviet invasion.

US and NATO will jam all SAMs and communication, they did successfully in Libya, Iraq, and others.

Pakistan upgrading air defence and more radars useless.

You present the same message that my friend used to convey, however sarcastically......"When rape is inevitable, enjoy!"

i think anza missiles and anti aircraft guns be deploy on afghan boarder

ANZA are useless against USAF Jets, they may only be practical against some helicopters. They may not even be capable of beating the newer Apache's....I hope I am wrong.
