AH1 cobra is also capable of doing this. This Chopper is the only a Strike Copter in in the world in addition of a gunship.
Means you can throw in 9 commandos in the hot zone along with a powerfull gunship as there cover at the same time.
This is a State of the Art heavy Gunship Plus Transport Copter.
AH1 cobras are fine gunships.

It seems deal in trouble, because Indians are again playing their role very silently . They will do their best to fail the deal. But if Russia sells this helicopter then parts will be no problem. Will be import from Chinese plants.

When they started the negotiations, i am sure they looked into the possible 'Indian' involvement.

You say veiling and mourning, I say exerting influence. It is alien to you because all your country does is get influenced...willingly.

WOW Mi - 34 and Mi - 24 that's good ................. :smitten::pakistan::yahoo:
What's so 'WOW' about these machines? For Pete's sake, they are more than 40 year old platforms! And by the way, the Mi-24 is the same as the Mi-35. The latter is the export version of the Mi-24.

I really don't know why such a big issue is being made out of it like as if Pakistan is buying some Star Trek type 'Bird of Prey' spacecraft that can destroy a whole planet! Jeeez!

awwww star trek
u upset :)

I fail to understand this from Pakistan.
It has financial problems due to its hefty borrowed funds from IMF/WB/ADB and what not, how the heck they have money to buy these expensive choppers, that also from its adversary's friendly country; Russia.
Other thing being, Pakistan has power outages of Himalayan proportion. Awam is not talking?
You people think India will start a war tomorrow?

Firstly, they are the least expensive in their class.

Secondly, these choppers are ideal for counter insurgency ops in Waziristan etc.

Thirdly, Pakistan needs to act now against the TTP and other forces inimical to its national interests before its too late.

Fourthly, Pakistan's present fleet of Cobras are not in the best shape, except for the 14 that were bought in 2010, as maintenance and spares are a big problem in spite of the U.S. Government giving $750,000 to update a portion of Pakistan Army Aviation's existing AH-1F/S Cobra fleet.

Fifthly, how they fund this purchase shouldn't be giving YOU sleepless nights!! That's their problem! :P

If you dont see it though India versus Pakistan spectrum, you will understand the wow factor.

Let me put it this way against India nothing wow in it, against TTP, definitely the wow factor is there.

So, the Indian start bitchin ,,,

New Delhi: India raised the issue of Russia's decision to sell Mi-35 attack helicopters to Pakistan during talks between visiting Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry O. Rogozin and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj here Wednesday that also saw both discuss a host of bilateral issues, including ramping up trade ties.

The meeting - Russia's first high level contact with the new Indian government - lasted over four hours, officials said, in an indication of the importance of the talks.

Asked if the issue of sale of Mi-35 helicopters had figured in the talks, ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said the issue did figure in the context of their defence cooperation talks. Earlier this month, Pakistan said that it was negotiating with Russia for the Mi-35s.

The spokesperson said the principal focus of the talks was on how to harness the "untapped potential" of their economic ties and raise it from the $10 billion at present, of which Russian exports amount to $6.5 billion.

He said both sides were "informally agreed" that the bilateral trade "does not reflect the potential and there is need to ramp it up" in all sectors, like hydrocarbons, nuclear energy, fertilisers, coking coal, diamonds and Russian investment in infrastructure development.

Both sides have also decided to set up a joint feasibility study on a free trade agreement between India and Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, which have formed the Eurasian Economic Union bloc.

"India sees Russia as a key partner in energy security," he said. Sushma Swaraj informed the Russian minister that the first unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power plant attained full capacity on June 7. The second unit was to attain criticality at the end of the year. In April this year, India and Russia signed an agreement for building units 3 and 4 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant. He said technical issues, relating to seismic studies, of the area in Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu were going on.

Asked if Russia had evinced interest in India inking a deal similar to the $400 billion gas deal with China, the spokesperson said that both had "detailed talks on energy cooperation"". Both sides would talk later on technical aspects, and "no specifics were discussed, he said.

PARIS, June 18 (RIA Novosti) – Russia plans to supply Pakistan with Mi-35 combat helicopters to fight drug trafficking, head of the Russian delegation at the international defense and security exhibition Eurosatory 2014 Igor Sevastyanov said Wednesday.

“We are currently holding consultations. We are talking about Mi-35 helicopters, we plan to supply them at the request of the Pakistani anti-drug trafficking agency,” Sevastyanov said.

Head of Russia’s Rostec Corporation, a high-tech industrial producer and exporter, Sergei Chemezov earlier stated that supplies of military equipment to Pakistan are to resume, including Mi-35 helicopters. At the same time, a source in Pakistan’s foreign ministry told RIA Novosti that Russia never fully adhered to the embargo on military deliveries to Pakistan.

Indian mass media reported the Indian government felt some concern about Russia’s plans to sell military equipment to its long-time regional rival and will watch the next steps very closely.

Mi-35 is the match in heaven for Pakistan.

Instead of spending $$$ on Cobras, it is getting cheap and durable helis for operations while increasing its heli capability.

This also opens doors of the Russian market, slowly but surely.

The Mi-35 and modern Cobra do not fill quite the same roll, would you agree?

Pakistan has been looking to induct another type of helicopter gunship for a long time. It was needed for various reasons.

With this procurement there is no urgent need of newer types given the current situation of the country.
