Pakistan shows interest in Ukrainian Oplot tank and Skif missile system

PDF members are obsessed with foreign weapons. Buy as many Oplots or VT4s for all i care, but then AK production doesn't make sense. Domestically produced weapon system should fulfill all requirements of any force.
IMO the right way forward would be to co-develop new-generation engines, transmissions, etc for our future tanks and armoured vehicles. We fund the development in Ukraine, but both sides get to keep and use the end results as they wish. This way, we finally manufacture those critical inputs in-house.

That’s the most sensible and correct approach. If not we could end up like Turkey and it’s Heli program with Pakistan.

Oplot talk isn't going anywhere. Current Chinese tanks are better and cheaper. Not familiar with skif. Only reasons why PA should even consider either is if their is significant tech transfer.

You know how much burden will that put on the budget if rangers and police also start operating armd regts. New training schools, workshop, recovery vehicles, ammunition. This would mean that we are operating two armies side by side.
It is better to put thos tanks in reserve. This will give our commanders flexibility and some boldness as well.
all the tank regt./ sqd. given to our paramilitary forces are being operated by PA armored corps personal on secondment to these respective paramilitary forces.
while they are their fc personal are being given on job training as well as sent to armor school, its a very smooth process/transaction.

when PA asked Ukraine for the major overhaul/up-gradation of t80 ud, Ukraine demanded exorbitant prices for the overhaul, to the extent that it was cheaper for PA to buy a brand new tank than overhauling the t80.
come to think of it this in itself is stupid mind boggling.
but as PA was stuck, it went along and ordered the parts for 2 tanks, which was to be part of the pilot project.
they were finding it hard to even deliver those parts and when they finally did, the quality of those parts was so poor that HIT rejected them outright and instead opted for a combo of russian/chinese parts.

so going by past experiences ukraine is in no position to deliver anything.

Should PA not sell these t80ud. And replace them with VT4 or ak1
These tanks are 20+ years old

And on another note should Pakistan not get ToT of tank engines and other components they inprt from Ukraine

What happened to the Alcotan rocket launcher?? Wasn't it an atgm??

No, its not ATGM its just unguided rocket for infantry, for the size of PA its not unusual to have multiple type of ATGMs for its force as we also have variety of terrain to protect.

SKIF cam be good option to replace wire guided older gen ATGMs, which should be transfered to paramilitary and used extensively on LOC as we may have 5000+ in inventory.

General Bajwa looks like a real general in that photo not a fake one and to be exact he looks like a warzone general and carries that aura

Is tank really valid in tidays battlefield. The British army is looking to get rid of theirs.

Surely the future is drones.
Highly mobile. Versatile and very effective and cheap

Perhaps initially but 88 tanks were transferred to FC per mod report after refurbished and FC personal after initial training taken over same is the case for 130mm artillery guns now part of FC

Yes it is valid, tanks aren’t going anywhere.
For a country like Britain tanks are useless because they’re an island with no enemies nearby, they have no place to use tanks, they will keep a small number which is enough for any foreign deployments they may need like Afghanistan and such, and no they’re not getting rid of their tanks, they just unveiled the challenger 3 and are spending billions to upgrade their fleet. Germany and other European countries are similarly downsizing their tank fleet but are still keeping a sizable number and spending a lot of money to upgrade them.

On the other hand for a county like Pakistan, Russia, India, China etc tanks are more relevant than ever, you cannot attack a target like a city or am enemy base without tanks because nothing has the armor or firepower to break through enemy lines. Certainly not APCs or infantry. And drones are useless in a balanced conventional war. They’re only useful if one side has absolute air superiority, like Turkey in Syria or Azerbaijan over Armenia, where there’s no SAM or air threat to the drones. In a Pakistan-India conflict drones will be near useless in anti-tank roles because they’re extremely vulnerable to enemy aircraft and SAMs, they’re slow and cannot defend themselves. Tanks are absolutely necessary for the function of infantry too because their entire role is infantry support.

20 years is barely any age, the T80UD is still a potent machine, it was the best of its time. Plus they’re being modernized and rebuilt, they will serve for a long time still.
PA has nearly a thousand tanks that need to go before it, Al-Zarrars and Type 69s, 85s.

All ops except north waziristan were FC lead and army supported meaning army units added to FC command to fill gaps

Only North waziristan was army led ops where army command executed and led while FC was in support role
