Featured Pakistan Navy Type 054AP Frigates - Update, News & Discussion

If PN can afford in future then type 52D or 55 should be added , 4 type 54 are enough
2-3 type 55s will be enough to guard our complete EEZ effectively. We need a big jump at latest tech to counter any future threats.

Normally it took about 12 months for a type 054A from launch to commissioning. During this period, the ship would undergo out-fitting and sea trials. Some ships took more than 12 months, some took less than that.

Pakistan's type 054AP has some different equipment compare with Chinese ship. And as the first ship of the class, it may take more than 12 months period since testing and verification of new equipment take more time than those that have been tested numerous time.

Set you time line to September 2021 for take-over by PN crew, and the on-the-job orientation for PN sailors might take a month or two before the ship sails back to Pakistan under adequately trained hands.

First one will be in Pakistan by Oct 21.

Type 55 Destroyers could be a strategic investment. Even two of these platforms with their complementary Type 54 Frigates and Marine Air Cover could effectively protect our EEZ, while providing enough firepower to impact Indian flows from the Gulf. They could radically shift the naval equation into a more balanced position. PN should seriously consider acquiring these assets.

Imagine two naval battle groups operating in the Arabian see, close enough for Marine Air Cover, with submarine shadowing and ASW operations. Combine this with corvettes/FACs for littoral and near coastal areas, and you have a very serious naval capability. Develop a strong Naval Marines force for Rann and Coastal Swamps to effectively interdict a ground ingress and align long range coastal missiles. Air CAPs (to protect Naval stations) alongwith longer range naval air for OTS units - and Pakistan Navy would be a radically different service.

Use additional subs for stealth and opportunistic hunting. Given the smaller area of operation, and Geo location next to Gulf of Oman and you can literally block off Gulf exports to India and reverse their dream of doing the same to us. Navy needs to be focused and prioritized or we will regret it. This strategy serves both Pakistan and China. India's dream of operating in SCS will have a backstop.

One thing I would like to state here: First it is annoying that our military is mum about Oman's actions. We should be very clear with Oman on their shenanigans. They have provided Indians with a listening post in Ras al Hadd and in Duqm they have provided Air Base support for IAF. They have also provided broad berthing rights to Indian Navy. Pakistan should openly warn Oman that this is unacceptable. Our leaders need to be leaders of Pakistan and not worry about their after retirement plans. Secondly Oman should be warned that the first thing to be blown out of the sky will be Duqm and Ras Al Hadd. And if a single Indian Air Force plane flies out of Oman upon hostilities then Pakistan will take out all air assets and air bases with long range missiles. Enough is enough that Pakistan keeps sheepishly quiet when these Arabs actively work against our interests. Both Oman and UAE have played very dirty in Balouchistan, yet I find it disconcerting that our Generals and Politicians stay quiet. If you cannot take the heat in the chair dont occupy it. Pakistanis in power, (military and otherwise) unfortunately have developed this mindset "yaar chup chaap sey behtoo. kiyun sar pey musibat utahnee - kal hamaree bhee transfer how jaygee. Apnee aap peh kiun leyna". I am not saying everyone thinks like this, but enough in power circles have this latent mindset. We need people of intellect, action and integrity in positions of power and decision making.

Hi,

The real issue is that the deal was for 4 type 054's and 8 subs amounting to an 8 billion dollar deal.
Closer to $4-5 b together. But even then, @Aamir Hussain's point still stands because Pakistan will still have to finish the payments left on those programs before it can move to other things.

Type 055 will be overkill but I would like if China can offer an O55 squezzed into size of 052D, of course reduced missile count accordingly. But this kind of customizations are always time and price sensitive compare to readymade solutions.

55 is 500 million per ship so we can get 3 ships in next 6-8 years.By then we will almost be done paying for Milgem & type 54 projects.PN will be working on Yuan subs, LRMPAs & Type 55s.
you are right it takes extra time which we don't have.

Sell the damn parliament and presidential houses - sell parliamentary hostels and have these so called leaders operate in open Devan setting or simple buildings with no pomp and circumstance. Reduce your GP cars fleets and models (freeze international travel and junkets) and pay for these things. However make 25% input PK driven in their manufacture so that some of that $500MM comes directly home. These items are not choices - they are critical to our national security. Cars, hostels, international travel, PIA rev/exp hole are what are discretionary. Even a small fix and optimization of a few PIA assets and we can cover the cost of this. Remove expense and wastage from WAPDA and we can get these. Just the will for action is lacking.

I had raised this question year or so ago on this forum and was advised / told that the Oman had reversed it's decision on granting Indian access to the facilities.
