Additional planes for the PN would be good, but Pakistan also needs to spend money on building repositories of data and IT System on tracking court martialed, fired and forced dischargd service members. That is as important as the planes themselvs. Also all retired with honour special forces and technical service members need to tracked too to make sure, poverty, inflation or unemployment do not put them on the wrong path.

Though many retired armed forces personnel find reemployment without too much difficulty, but systems need to in place to know their occupations and where abouts. This is the need of the hour.

Has the navy revealed the extent of damage to these planes? I dont think a bunch of terrorists can completely destroy a whole plan in the face of heavy opposition

Two of the engines of one of the planes were recovered -- otherwise all else is a write-off.

Man these Naval assets were deadly in the WOT.

Whoever have done the merging thread part, haven't done any justice with my thread "Pakistan Navy P-3C Orion Thread". Have a recheck.




What if PN has lost the planes , they have got the crew and man power to fly the new ones.Things are going to be even better.

More will come,lost will be replaced.At a minimal cost.This attack will be failure or at least will lookalike one.

One thing i'm sure P-3Cs are going to get a special treatment in future ,good for these birds and good for PN.

First of eight “new” Orions for Pakistan Navy

paknavy04(18jan07) The first of eight P-3C Orion aircraft to be acquired from USA, was formally inducted in the Pakistan Navy during a ceremony held at PN aviation base PNC Mehran near Karachi. Acting Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Muhammad Haroon said that Pakistan enjoy strong defence ties with US, adding that release of P-3C Orion aircraft to Pakistan was a real sign of sustained mutual cooperation between the two countries and a tangible translation of their commitment to make the world a peaceful and safer place to live. He said that the uncertainties of present-day regional maritime environment pose complex challenges of terrorism, arms smuggling, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and drug and human trafficking at sea. There is an urgent need of denying the use of sea for illegal activities and acts of terrorism for safety and security of humankind. He said that induction of P-3C Orion aircraft would add to the existing strength of Pakistan Navy and enhance its surveillance capabilities in the North Arabian Sea. He also apprised that the second aircraft is expected to arrive next month and the entire process of acquiring eight P-3C would be completed in three to four years.

ISLAMABAD: The US has decided to supply two P3C Orion aircraft to Pakistan to replace the aircraft that were blown up in the PNS Mehran attack on May 22nd, 2011, diplomatic sources told DawnNews.
