EC is a group of allied, yes allied countries that share common culture, religion, history and are mostly indistinquishable between themselves who also share a common vision. Thus a economic basis reinforces and builds on the foundation. They are not going let Russian anytime soon into the EC.

In South Asia we have disparate countries mostly armed to the teath ready to rub each other off the map. That is the differance.
