Pakistan Interested in Russian Air Defense Systems

The UD only shares it's chassis with the Russian T-80. . It's turret, gun, systems & subsystems are from the T-84 program. ..

And the UD fleet was upgraded with French systems recently so there is no need for Russian upgradation. .

The Ukrainian engines are perfect and are also powering AKS etc and we have facilities for overhauling etc. . So i doubt Pak will even think of getting russian engine's..

Infact they are more interested in Korean 1500hp power plants for the AKII.

P
AL KHALID II can we expect anything or pay be small scale model revealed this IDEAS

Guys what do you think the priority should be?

Armored Vehicles including tanks? Air Defense? Air Superiority?

Looks like it will get modernised by Russian components now.

Not quite, we have modernized our entire fleet at home including new thermal imagers, FCS, laser defense system etc.

The top Russian T-80 variant as of now is the T-80UA that combines T-80U's turret over T-80B's hull. The problem is that the entire t-80 program got halted many years ago due to budgetary constrains and Ural's ploy of convincing the army that the t-72 based t-90 with t-80s optics, fire control and armor was a cheaper, safer and better option.

to this day, the Russian army prefers t-80U over any t-90 variant, and for obvious reasons.

Pakistan is interested in many weapons systems but acquiring them is another matter - political and financial hurdles.

S300 derivatives with near instantaneous reaction time close to airbases and nuke sites would protect from high altitude decapitation attack while your planes grounded.Otherwise who fires first will gain advantage like 67 arab israel war larger arab airforces were effectively grounded. Several batteries are enough for that purpose.

Buk is maneuvrable and medium altitude. Some 10 batteries stationed at india border can form an initial wall of defense.

Pantsyr is shorter range but new variants have sufficient altitude like 15km. It is highly paractical to protect armor columns on the move. But since it is short range it needs more quantities to cover armored columns fully.

The problem is as we have seen in Iran case of 10 years delay it depends more to usa, with a phone call by mr. kerry the transfer can be postphoned indefinately and you getting the initial batches while everone else is equipped lasers after 15 years. It seems better to go for high end equipment from China the corresponding items are HQ 9 for S300, Ks1 for Buk and Chinese equivalenys of Tor and Pantsyr.

Buk-M3 is not medium altitude SAM, it has ABM capability against tactical BMs and can move with moving columns staying behind.

It makes Buk M3 more suitable for armor column protection as well with footprint of 70km radius and less batteries are needed than pantsyr to cover the same area. The bullets are more expensive though making it less advantageous than pantsyr for cruise missile and short range point defense. Still it wont replace S300 since at least 100-150km range with vertical launch multiple target capability is necessary to defend against sead missions and gain time for other defenses like interceptor planes to activate.

A combination of latest versions of Buk-M3, Pantsur S-2 and possibly Tor SAMS will give PA ability to operate with limited air support from PAF.

all above mentioned system will be more effective if S-350E (120Km MR SAM) or HQ-9B (200Km LR SAM) are also inducted. This combination along with PAF will create hell for IAF over battlefield & Pakistani skies.

The purpose is to only defend Pakistani skies.

The purpose is to only defend Pakistani skies.

Not just Pakistani skies, battlefield areas will also need protection from airborne threats, that is why PA is looking for systems like Buk-M3, Pantsir S-2 and possibly Tor, which will allow them to fight with IA with limited PAF cover or no PAF cover. FM-90 is also a part of that strategy. If you add LRSAM and create a NCW sync between PN, PA & PAF then it will be very difficult for our enemy to come in and get their goals.

What makes you assume PA is looking for those systems? The systems that match current search is BUK m3 and S300 PMU2/3, not pantsir and Tor. The majority of the fund will be for a Himad and Lomad system, with some consideration of western shorad as terminal defense.
