You missed JF-17 and JH-7A.

Exercise was likely about use of combined resources rather then one type vs the other ( PAF equipment vs PLAAF equipment. )

PS: Hayreddin, PLAAF is still using F-7s, A-5s, may not be in front line status but still using them.

Pakistan is prohibited by the US to use F-16 in such joint exercises with China.

All the Shaheen joint exercises are reportedly going with some fully battle ready command, surveillance and logistic systems with realistic air battle background.

It really goes beyond normal one on one dog fights and employs a lot more different types of aircraft than you can see in the published pictures.

Within the scenarios, the aircraft as a platform is less important whereas the entire system becomes much more crucial to the victory in a real war.

Chinese national defence ministry spokesperson on Thursday said that the recently concluded training exercise, Shaheen-VII jointly conducted by air forces of Pakistan and China had achieved its desired results.

“The joint training exercise began from November 30, and culminated on December 23, at an operational base in Pakistan. It has achieved its desired results,” Wu Qian, a spokesperson for the Chinese ministry of national defence said while responding to a question asked by APP Foreign Correspondent during his monthly briefing held here.

The main objective of the exercise was to maximise the combat readiness of the air forces by providing a realistic training environment in different air combat scenarios.

The Chinese and Indian examples aren't analogous to Pakistan. We don't have their financial resources or geo-political influence. Yes, Pakistan can -- and has tried -- dialogue with Russia, but the end results were (1) a lite presence at IDEAS by Russia, clearly focusing on just COIN/CT (to Pakistan), not conventional arms and (2) the reality that our side probably won't do much itself due to CAATSA (the US still has a lot of leverage on us, such as being one of a few markets where we have a trade surplus).

If we want a near-term twin-engine fighter, then we should probably look at the Chinese FC-31.

Geographically, Pakistan is not important to Russia.

I think there is geostrategi importance to Pakistan which can make it a lot of friends regionally. However, firstly htere is a lot of mistrust between Paks and the red bear which is slowly thawing and most importantly The red bear wants hard cash which the Paks dont have. There are other issues as well but they are secondary.
