Pakistan Army testing MBT-3000 next moth ?

Norinco MBT-3000 joins China’s export line-up.

CHRISTOPHER F FOSS - Land Consultant.

China North Industries Corporation’s(Norinco’s) MBT-3000 main battle tank (MBT) made its international debut at the Eurosatory defence exhibition in Paris in mid-June.

The MBT-3000, which has similar road wheels but a slightly different hull to the Type 98/ Type 99 MBT currently in People’s Liberation Army service, is the latest model tojoin Norinco’s streamlined MBTexport line. As well as the MBT-3000, Norinco now offers theMBT-2000, which has a combatweight of 48 tonnes, and the VT2, which has a combat weight of 42 tonnes.

Although it is not yet in series production, officials described the MBT-3000 as the most advanced MBT offered by Norinco on the export market to date. Norinco claims it is fully digitised, air conditioned and fitted with an over-pressure NBC system and an inertial navigation/global positioning system.

The MBT-3000 is armed with a 125 mm smoothbore gun fed by an automatic loader that holds 22 rounds of ready-use ammunition (projectile and charges) plus 18 rounds in reserve. It also has a roof-mounted remote-controlled 12.7 mm machine gun (MG) operated by the commander and a 7.62 mm co-axial MG.

Gun control equipment is electric and the fire control system includes stabilised day/ second-generation cooled thermal imager sights for the commander and gunner, including a laser rangefinder.

The tank commander is provided with a roof-mounted stabilised panoramic sight that allows a target to be acquired and then handed over to the gunner for engagement.

Norinco’s MBT-3000 made its international debut at Eurosatory. Norinco says the MBT-3000 is the most advanced MBT offered by the company on the export market to date.

testing or buying are 2 different things. mayble the army would like to adapt some of the MBT-3000 sub-systems onto the MBT-2000(AK)

Well sir if we are testing I think we would buy them too and if it passess the test and if this is not AL KHALID II than Al Zarrar along with T 80 UD and MBT 3000 and AL KHALID II Dam we would become one off the best Tank force in the world and what is your view about H KHAN claim that we are buying IFV too

Along with ZBL 09 IFV

Pakistan should also have to test
FNSS PARS
and Otokar ARMA

and should choose a better one in these three with TOT

why PA is not looking to Turkish Atlay New Polish stealth PL01 tank projects to make AK2 one of the best tanks in the world?

Altay is too big in size and heavy

I think pakistan if has selected this would have tested

@Zarvan I m not talking about get it as a full system, its advance technology will be helpful to build advance AK2 same for polish tank.

if Atlay is better than any tank fielded in Sub Continent in terms of tech n design then PA can get customized version as per their need.

Yes for that we should do it but for Al Khalid II I think we have developed everything we are about to show that in IDEAS 2014 which will take place in december in 2014

@Dazzler

I'm with you on the AK-2, however the Army does need a tank to replace the likes of T-69 and other older tanks.

I understand that T-80s are here to stay for the foreseeable future, though looking at India buying up T-90s like crazy, it becomes important to plan for replacement of these machines.

Army has tested ZTZ-99 and now MBT-3000. Its possible that they may have looked elsewhere too. None of this alone means that we are going to buy them.

Future of armored warfare is netcentricity, therefore even if for the sake of argument we start building the desert optimized MBT-3K at home, it still would take us decades to replace all of our older tank fleet by either AK-x or MBT3K

MBT-3000 is only a possibility as HIT official itself has cofirmed that Next variant of Al khalid is underdevelopment with confirmed Mass production to begin from june 2015.Anything apart from this only are speculations.

MBT-3000 is only a re-accessirized variant of MBT-2000 or Basic Al khalid.

The more interesting point is 1500HP engine for Next variant of Al khalid as we know they won't opt for 1500HP engine for 48t tank so the possibility of next variant of Al khalid upto 55t is more of a reality now

So you are saying we will buy MBT-3000 as replacement for T-69 and Type 85 and Al Khalid 2 is different Tank ?

If Specs of initial version / model of Ak-2 have been finalized then in future PA can go for AK-2B or something with more better tech from west through Turkey, also PA could work with Poland to develop AK-3 & future advance APC/IFV (stealth) on basis PL-01, it will be big boost if a tank can not be tracked on radar and all kinds of optical systems, it will be like an F-22 of Ground forces. :-)

Altay MBT - Main Battle Tank - History, Specs and Pictures - Military Tanks, Vehicles and Artillery

PA does need a tank to replace all T-59/69/85 and AK alone will not be a good option to replace them, we must have another tank which is different then AK, because if enemy find a weakness in AK then whole force will become vulnerable, so another type of tank will be good to have, but if MBT-3000 is similar to what we have then going for customized Atlay will be better.

Some websites are saying MBT 3000 has 52 tonne weight that is really heavy Tank and yes we need a Tank other than AL KHALID 2 we should wait for IDEAS 2014 it would clear lot off issues
