I do agree with you that the "Loyalty to Islam above all else" attitudes, as indicated by some in this forum, are also reflected by people within the Army, and this may be contributing to somewhat higher desertions, but even such "misplaced" loyalty (IMO, so don't get upset folks) doesn't necessarily mean that those who possess it don't see the Taliban and AQ as a threat. A lot of people on this forum who do claim such loyalty are also vociferously against the Taliban and AQ, though a bit " Infidel conspiracy" oriented at times.![]()
Loyalty to Islam is one aspect, but the other major problem (something that I think is even more important than the point about Islam) is the tribal linkages and connections. The "nafri" (manpower) for the FC is entirely from the tribal and these people simply do not want to get involved in what's becoming an increasingly tribal problem (Mehsuds vs. Wazirs etc.) and beyond that what they may perceive as an anti-Pashtun campaign. All these factors are bound to dampen the morale and will to fight.
