Pakistan Army negotiating for Turkish Altay Tanks

M1(approx 68 short ton) is being used in deserts of Middle East and Africa. Why Altay is unfit for deserts ?

Lighter tank (around 48t) not for terrain restrictions but railway and bridge limitations.

Apart from the APS, all other subsystems you mentioned equip AK.. and all are indigenous solutions.


It does because Paks Panjab and Sindh also have a vast canal system.. our bridges and railways cant support a 60 ton tank.

Ask the indians .. apart from arjun mbts flaws.. there infrastructure cant support it either.

Rivers are a problem, yes, but I don't think canals will be a problem that cannot be solved by engineering corps. Existing bridges will be among first targets of the enemy in any case. Their locations are known. So, don't think these bridges will be the only one army will be using during conflicts. They will have to rely on their bridges and this is where we need to address the weight issue if it is already not done.

For that, new infrastructure would have to be developed.. new recovery vehicles,bridge layers,locomotive carriers etc etc.

Ataley is a great Tank but with it's massive 65 ton weight it suitable for Pakistani terrain? And cost could be another headache for Pakistan .

If Altay with 60+t suits the Turkish terrain, I think It will be a beast in Pakistan as well.

Railway lines used for both passenger and cargo have normal tear affect. There are few countries having separate lines for cargo and passenger trains. Pakistan has single line system and it's old from British colonial times

Tanks are more vulnerable today than ever.
It's better to invest in modern and better military bridging systems for heaver tanks with better counter measures and armor.

In Pakistan, it was never the desert that stopped accusation of heavier tanks. It's a misconception.
It was saline fields of Punjab and southern Sindh, with much higher ground water level and it has clay like slippery soil.
But conditions have changed now. Ground water level has gone much down

What is engine output in terms of horsepower for Altay? 1500 or 1800?

Pakistanis hardly liked VT 4. It was OPLOT which was liked by our forces. The only issue was the engine heating up other than that Tank was liked by our forces. So OPLOT when returns will have real chance of winning the competition

Both tanks impressed, please do share where you got the whole "Pakistanis did not like it". The engine was amongst other things, the Thai army also outlined areas for concern.
The Ukrainians haven't been able to produce 49 tanks in 8 years and you want to place your faith in that? I also have concerns about the VT4 i.e. regarding its level of sophistication compared to the Type99.

The thing with Altay bro is that everything has seemed to have been put on hold. I do believe it has a place in smaller numbers as a force multiplier, but we need the Turkish army to field and test it.

Altay is turkish Leopard copy it is the best suited tank for our army turkey already built a trophy system for altay under trials far superior than ukraUkrai and german technology second to none
