So Pakistan may take MBT3000 as a alternative of Haider program? any other tanks considered?

Possible Al Haider NG-MBT team if its not happy with MBT 3000 performance. China is always the first priority.

I think NG-MBT team of Haider new generation tank project is first analyzing MBT 3000 / VT4, and I think China will be first ever as always to be given first priority over others, including Ukrainians, South Africans, Germans or French. Pakistan-South Korea also signed a MoU recently for defence cooperation. Lets see, what other options after Mbt3000 evaluation.

Certainly Pakistan would want a new powerful engine replacing the Chinese 1300hp, like AK which has 1500hp Ukrainian 60-TB2 Diesel engine. Armour Protection, new Battle management system from Al Khalid series maybe, new laser range finder, and jammers. Pakistan would like the Haider project to as different from AK as much as possible and for that new foreign vendors and in house development of technologies is a must.

MBT3000 looks similar to Abram tank. Look awesome in shape and size. Lets wait and see what is the outcome of tests.

Al 31FP engines are manufactured at HAL Koraput engine division

Just assembles in India. India doesnot have know how, how to make a new aircraft engine.

The Saturn AL-31 Su 30MKI Engine is a family of military turbofan engines. It was developed by Lyulka, now NPO Saturn, of Soviet Union. The AL-31FP and AL-37FU variants have thrust vectoring. The former is used in the Su-30MKI export version of the Russian Su-30 for India & Sukhoi Su-30MKM for Malaysia.

Engine is made in India, my A$$.

87.7% of components of AL 31FP engines are made by HAL. 53% components by cost are made by HAL.And some countries can't even think of assembling aircraft engines.LOL

MBT 3000 is at least one generation ahead of MBT 2000, PA need it to deter T90.

PA don't need it to deter T-90s as Al-Khalid-1 can handle it and Al-Khalid-2 is in pipeline, to my understanding it will replace aging fleet of T-85,59,69s and fill the numbers required.

If MBT=3000 is inducted as Al-Haider then it will be highly upgraded and modified as MBT-2000s, Al-Khalid have advance systems in it like 3rd Generation Thermal Imaging, home made battle management system etc.

I know, we have better tech available specially we can access Atlay tank tech which will allow us to develop very advance tank, but still why we are purchasing new tank even if it is to fill numbers?? why AKs can't fill it?

Yes Chinese Brother.


MBT 2000 like VT1 / VT1A variants sold to Bangladesh, MBT2000 has basic similarities with MBT Al Khalid like shape, sub-systems etc, but MBT2000 has many key differences in configuration to Al Khalid Tank series, made in Pakistan, and in 600 total now.

For examples:

- AK has Pakistani built 125mm gun, while MBT 2000 has Chinese gun. AKs command and control system is all Pakistani, called Rehbar System, while Mbt 2000 has Chinese.

- AK takes lot of input from T80 & T85 Ukrainian tanks.

-The production Al-Khalid tank has a fire-control system of western origin while in MBT 2000, the Chinese Norinco fire-control system has inputs from ten Chinese-Russian sensors.

-Ukrainian Varta electro-optical laser jammer rather than anything Chinese.

-Al-Khalid also fires a Pakistani DU round, the Naiza 125 mm DU round (armour penetration: 550 mm in RHA at 2 km).

-"Integrated Battlefield Management System" (IBMS), named 'Rehbar' is made in Pakistan too, developed domestically by HIT and CARE (Centre for Advanced Research in Engineering).

- SAGEM a french system on AK series.
