Agreed. 100 percent, if the population is starving and struggling, this expense cannot be allowed to continue unabated.Armed forces need some "fat " cutting
The question is why the Hike? They havent been engaged in any formal war since decades. Talibans and baloch insurgents are their own breed of failed policies. released butchers of poor Pakistanis like Ihsan ullah Ihsan at their own will. Couldnt provide a proper MRAPs to dying soldiers in Balochistan in their tin dabba Hiaces. This nation is fkn tired of carrying these useless generals on their shoulders who are consistently letting the nation down in almost every crucial times. Kia hm bs shareefo or in garnailo ki ghulami ky lye paida hwe thy?
What you are seeing is due to the shamelessness and greed of your own Pakistani people.
6% will barely catch up with inflation. Pak faces a difficult strategic situation. Its armed forces need proper funding.

Good point. Pakistan can't simply cut loose highly trained servicemen in the middle of an economic crisis.@fatman17
Armed forces need some "fat " cutting
Valid point. But where is the fat?
If you reduce jawans at the lower end, you have thousands of militarily trained personnel swelling the ranks of TLP, TTP etc. (Think Freikorps in the 1920s). These are not decisions that can be taken at the spur of the moment. Need to be thought out.

Divert instead to defense R&D and military techArmed forces need some "fat " cutting
I'm not very informed about these numbers. But in general, it is well known from following Indian news that the largest component of Indian defence budget goes to cutting paychecks and pensions. The capital expense for acquiring new weapons is lesser because of it. GOI seems to be trying to address it by not taking new recruitment during the pandemic years. I hope they slowly trim the forces to make them leaner and meaner. What is not realised is that in the subcontinent the bulk of expenditure is on wages and salaries, pension benefits and routine maintenance. Less than 20%- perhaps even lesser amounts are on actual weapons purchases. Cutting def ex means essentially laying off hundreds and thousands of militarily trained personnel. Where do these people go? Just ask yourself.
The GDP growth going forward is about 3% I understand- add to it about 13% inflation- that gives a nominal GDP growth of 16%. A 6% hike in defence budget actually means a reduction in def ex as % of GDP by about 6-7%.
