The experts of the aerodynamics of aircraft and missiles Central hydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) in Zhukovsky near Moscow have completed the first stage of the test circuit model "flying wing", said the institute. The model was tested in the transonic tunnel T-106 at cruise speeds up to Mach 0.88 (about 1010 kilometers per hour) and at high Reynolds numbers. The purpose of the tests was to specify the aerodynamic characteristics of the aircraft perspective.
Tests of the model "flying wing", designed in 2011, with various engine and geometry of the tail, began in 2012. It was tested in wind tunnels T-102 and T-107 to subsonic flow of the gas stream. "A pleasant surprise for us was the high efficiency of the elevator on the center at all angles of attack. However, interference with the upper engine nacelle location was worse than we thought », ─ said chief of the aerodynamics of aircraft and missiles TSAGI Anatoly Bolsunovsky.

The report TSAGI that research project "flying wing" are conducted in TsAGI for more than 25 years. Such a scheme of the aircraft will be used to create long-haul passenger aircraft. Meanwhile, the achievements obtained in the course of research will certainly be used to create complex long-term aviation aircraft (PAK DA), which is composed of long-range Russian Air Force will have to replace the outdated Tu-95MS and Tu-160. The new bomber planned to build on a "flying wing".
