What's new

India’s first Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle being tested

Even after the K15 tests , RVs for all our BMs , the reason that we do not have requisite material for hull does not seen like an actual reason .

There is a difference. BM are targeted at fixed point. They do not have that sensitive sensors which gives the guidance to missile to change the trajectory (As required in case of anti ship missiles). Hypersonic missile will travel at very low altitude for a long time.

we can't always extrapolate like that 'totally ' . RVs of BMS are subjected to those atmospheric condition only during re-entry ....while as far as Hypersonic flights are concerned the vehicle is subjected to those conditions through out or the most of its its flight ....

Not really . The HEX , LEX will ultimately culminate into SPEX ...
SPEX (Scramjet Propulsion Experiment) will have RLV-TD further fitted with a scramjet engine. It will get to take off from an airstrip like a regular aircraft, but once in flight it will accelerate to supersonic speed, after which it will activate its air-breathing scramjet engine and accelerate to hypersonic velocity. The scramjet will then switch off and the vehicle will decelerate until it can reactivate its normal jet engines and then return to land at the landing strip like a regular aircraft.

atleast that's the roadmap .....!

What is LEX ??

Indeed these tow are different programmes ...based on same technology .
I am also referring to ATV -D02 programme .

As far as ISRO programme is concerned even ISRO has conducted ground tests of scramjet engine which will form core of its RLV has been ground tested and sustained combustion of scramjet as long as 6 seconds have been achieved ...

The passive test of scramjet engine aboard sounding rocket took place in 2010. ISRO plans to undertake HEX Hypersonic flight experiment in coming years ( no official time line 2014-2017) .

Russia is unlikely to participate in Indian Hypersonic missile programme ....due to constrains of MTCR .Especially that India has not been accepted into MTCR yet , although talks are on !.

But even if India is admitted to MTCR , it is unlikely that Russia will join hands with India in such a futuristic programme .

Russia has its own Hypersonic missile programme which is in very advanced phases of development ....

Nevertheless Brahmos joint venture gave India immense insight and hand on experience in dealing with Scramjet , Hypersonic technology..... and we have to be thankful to Russia for that .

For Russia, MTCR is a paper of junk. They leased us Nuclear sub. It is economic interest of Russia which matters for them.

What is LEX ??

Landing experiment ....if we have to have reusable launch vehicle . after hypersonic flight we need to demonstrate the landing capability ....

so this is the worst or the most difficult part of technology ....

" To bring it back ...." safe and sound !

so unless we have demonstrated successful LEX - Landing experiment we can't dream of working Reusable launch Vehicle ...

For Russia, MTCR is a paper of junk. They leased us Nuclear sub. It is economic interest of Russia which matters for them.

Countries tend to use International conventions and treaties as excuse to do or not to do something whenever it suits them.

Leasing of Nuclear Sub does not directly contravenes MTCR... It was very tactful use of lack of provision for Nuclear subs in MTCR that we ( Russia and India ) exploited ...

But Hypersonic missiles are the crux for future weapons ...because its potential to dodge BMD .

Hence it is unlikely that Russia will join hands with us for this particular project even if MTCR was not an obstacle ....definitely not if MTCR forbids it .

If India is admitted to MTCR ....that argument will no longer hold .

India is on its own ...but we can say that Russia initiated us into Hypersonic era through Brahmos joint venture and we still have to thank them for this ....

" No country will ever compromise self interest at stake even while helping its friends....!"

But India can do it alone ....it has the capacity and capability now to do this .

At a slower pace ...but we will reach that place...sure !!!

Brahmos is a much longer range missile that disclosed. They know how to play with MTCR type of agreements.

You rightly said that Interest matters only and nothing else.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the system PRC tested was an unpowered glider and therefore can not be equalled with the X 41 or HSTDV.

Frankly speaking ...it's just a statement .

There are no figures , numbers, statistics , video of the launch. PRC is quite opaque when it comes to such announcements .

Do we even know what was tested ? was it a vehicle ? ( more likely ) or missile itself as claimed by some articles ? ( less likely )

Do we even know the specs of this vehicle ... how long was the flight duration etc ?

Nothing .

As far as Indian HSTDV is concerned we know all the specifications including speed proposed to be achieved and flight duration ...

Can we talk same about PRC test of Hypersonic carrier ? nopes ...

That's the difference between Democratic and Totalitarian system ...

Unfortunately our openness is taken as bravado while these guys hide behind veils of secrecy ...!

Besides the statement by PRC and US we have no nothing more about the Hypersonic vehicle tested by PRC .

It(wu-14) was also a scramjet tech demonstration.. It's confirmed that China used an intercontinental missile to achive required altitude and speed for a scramjet propulsion for hypersonic vehicle..

India bragged about its HSTDV back in 2007.

Indians are again TALKING about their beloved HSTDV after the news that China has conducted a test of its HGV(a member of a huge hypersonic family that is under simultaneous developments and engineering prototypings:enjoy:)。

Do more,talk less。

Unfortunate only one bragging here is you.

Fact is that India has been transparent about its programme .

We know exact specifications of HSTDV to be tested ...what about China

Besides mere statement do we have anything more to trust ?

Do we know what were the specifications of this Hypersonic vehicle that China tested ...what was the flight duration etc ...
None .

We have been open and vocal about what we are doing ...

and given our priorities and constrains we are doing good job ...

we are not in race with anyone ....

and as it was forecasted we are going to test the system this year ....

agreed that like most of Indian programmes this has been bit delayed but what big deal about it ?

India is a democratic country and has free space ....that's why the news keep coming ...

That doesn't mean India is just boasting ...

without capacity and capability we would not have had mastered technologies that only select group of nations possess ... !

It is true that this news has surfaced at time when china tested its system and it is quite obvious that this should happen ...so what exactly you are offended of ???

India has showed ....

India talked about Mars mission and it did launch mission within record time of 15 months ...

If as you paint , India had been good enough only in talking we could not have achieved what we have so far ...

India is a democratic country and each and everything under the sun is discussed and subjected to scrutiny ....people like you who have grown in totalitarian system where government controls the media and discussion can't understand why Indians 'talk' or 'discuss' more .... !!!

Any source to back your claim or is it that you came to know from on of your own sources rhetoric??Because so far all the evidences (if you could term the reports as such) suggest that it was a hypersonic mach 10 'glide vehicle' and glider means unpowered. So where did you find the scramjet part from?
