Pak Army Uniform undergoing major redesigning.

Hi,

In every business---most of the times the uniform and personal grooming are the most important factor of how the business wants to project itself and how it wants its employees to look---and more so for any millitary that wants to look professional---.

I personally would like to take the total uniform one step further---buzz cut for all millitary personale---can't hold hair between the tip of your fingers and the heel of your palm ----.

I would politely disagree Mastan. I have had my fair share of those haircuts and let me put it this way, insaan kay bacchay hain, we should look like insaan with hair covering our heads. There is no need for the high and tight as long as the nape and the sides are trimmed short and clean. I personally have always liked the middle of the road haircuts preferred in our part of the world (thanks to the Brits;-).

By the time you get out of the military schools/colleges and academies, you have no desire to get that nasty, ugly "piyala" buzz cut for the rest of your life. Take my word on this one. Every now and then you run into a lean, mean type who is all uptight about that piyala cut, but as you grow into your profession, the high part of the haircut continuously comes down.

Maybe this is my old fashioned way of thinking..but personally I think that buzz cut is a duffer's cut for me. ;-)

Xeric,

That is a good one----.

And as for the U S millitary haters---pak millitary should have been based on similiar standards as the u s millitary long time ago---it is progressive---it is professional---it is forward looking---it gives utmost respect to a soldier---where a soldier has confidence to talk to a general without prejudice---.

U S army is such where non comms are doing the jobs of commiossioned officers---and that is not an orinary task.

US Armed Forces are definitely very progressive. However given the budget available to the Brits, they do a commendable job and there is no harm in following along on training practices learned from the British. Secondly, our own Army is 60+ years old and has a lot of indigenous traits in and of itself. This is what we need to build upon.

Your point about the NCOs is although an extremely valid one. On that count, the Americans, Brits, Germans, (pretty much all Europeans) have done a much more commendable job of delegating responsibility. Unfortunately, our educational standards are so low that junior officers are having to do jobs that NCOs/JCOs should be able to handle. Not having this ability is an issue. However the establishment of the Junior Leaders Academy was a step in the right direction, however this will take considerable time as the intake that comes into the Army has a very nominal educational background. In the United States, its not very uncommon for NCOs to be pursuing advanced graduate degrees. So a rather large gap exists in the educational qualifications of our intake vs. that of the US Army.

Among Pakistani forces , i guess SSW [Special Services Wing -Air Borne wing of PAF] has the best gear and uniform.

SSW is a very small force. Equipping a smaller force with new gear is not as expensive a proposition as doing the same with a multi-brigade sized SSG or for that matter specialists within Infantry battalions. All of this takes a lot of money, of which we never have enough.

I have learnt that the green plume attached with the Punjab Regiment was awarded to the regiment by the British as acknowledgement for the last siege of Mysore in 1799, when the mighty Tiger of Mysore attained martyrdom! The Punjab regiment was instrumental in storming the gates of Sirangapatem, where Tipu Sultan made his monumental last stand.

If this is true, we must initiate a letter to the Pakistan Army and ask them to investigate the matter and remove the plume from the Punjab Regiment Beret. We donot want to be associated with the fall of Tipu Sultan, do we? can anybody verify or nulify this information?

Please keep your bs away from this thread.

I hope that what I have qouted is indeed BS, can you please clarify if what I have heard is true? I have great admiration for my country's armed forces but this is one of few querries that pinch me about the institution. If you know the history of the plume otherwise, kindly enlighten me. I hope with all my heart that what I have heard is nothing but mendacious BS.

I do not feel offended by your post because I can feel the utter love and respect we both share for Pakistan Armed Forces. But in the bleak instance if I am right, the Pakistan Army must seriously consider removing this plume.

when you see guys like this, you sit up and take notice.

As opposed to Rabble:

Your saying no one sits up and notices these rag tag militants ?

I think the sight of a turban and an AK-47 is enough to send chills down the spine ;)

After this uniform i think we must get rid of these long G 3s they just spoil the whole get up......

Having seen the Type-56C's (AK-47s) in action in the recent Pak-Saudi exercises, may give you a hint that a change is already in place. POF is making Type-56Cs in large numbers and lot of troops in the tribal areas as well as in peace locations are getting and have already gotten the new POF made Type-56Cs. So, it seems we won't be seeing G-3s in numbers in coming years.

Changing to a new rifle is no easy task, lots of money and investment in infrastructure is required and right now, we don't have that luxury. May be in future.

Right now, they must look into other life saving gear in the shape of good & lightweight bullet proof vests, radio communication gear, night vision equipment especially.

Type-56Cs will do fine for now and in coming years.
