BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:20 A.M.) – The leader of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) said on Saturday that more than 20 Turkish soldiers were killed by their by forces in northern Iraq this weekend.
The PKK leader said in a statement to Sputnik Arabic that “a Turkish commando force tried to carry out an airdrop in the Haftani area, and they repulsed them.”
The leader said this incident resulted in the the killing of more than 20 Turkish soldiers and wounding of dozens more.
A few days ago, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the start of a military operation in northern Iraq that targeted the PKK and its allies in the Haftanin region.
In a related context, Turkey announced the results of Operation Tiger Claw, which was the ground offensive launched by the Turkish Armed Forces.
The Minister of Defense, Hulusi Akar, said, according to the Turkish Anadolu agency, the forces participating in the Operation Tiger Claw have bombed more than 700 targets belonging to the PKK
The agency stated that the minister inspected a military point in the region, while speaking to the Turkish Armed Forces there.
Akar pointed out that ” the Turkish armed forces stormed and destroyed the dens and hideouts of terrorists in the framework of the military operation.”
He said, “Since the beginning of the operation, about 150 caves and a large amount of ammunition were controlled and more than 160 explosive devices were destroyed, in addition to bombing more than 700 targets.”
