Deliberate delirium is a rather unusual state of mind. But then that is what decent folks wouldnt really get into. It is for not so normal, rather eccentric minds and is one of the so many kinky pastimes that they like to indulge in. Their other favourite hobbies could be wishful thinking, hallucination, self selection over others, illusion or simply hatred. One odd person like that in the neighborhood can be managed but when entire blocks comprise these sub species then clearly there is cause for concern.
Mens minds can spin out all sorts of webs and create all kinds of make believe canopies around and over their perceptions and then lead them into believing that the mirage was real. Not only that it can cause them to see phantom threats to their fantasy world but also coax them into defending it violently against hostile ideologies, organizations, men , races or a combination of any of these. Although undesirable but this is an intriguing phenomenon deserving attention right at the onset of the epidemic .This means, saner world must not just be amazed but be prepared to dismantle this essentially destructive and evil state of mind which creates monsters like OBL, Zawahiri and Ajmal Kassab.
Indignation or mere condemnation by a conscientious few or a group of articulate some has never worked more than blowing a whistle. Similarly a superlatively brave stand like Malalas alone can not really prevent the dark fringe of madness and murder from creeping up the mother society. To contest and to cause a recoil back into their Stone Age caves ,it will require the whole of civil society to array in battle order ,regardless of their creed, ideology ,country or colour of the skin. Everyone is at risk, not just the followers of Islam.
However the pivot of disaster lies where the Muslim mass is. Muslims today are in the grip of terror and turmoil because of the fertility of the human humus that they make available and a corresponding barrenness of any meaningful intellectual discourse into this malicious diversion in Muslim societies .One could call the material as humus as it depicts the true state of Muslim mass today ; just a huge collection of compost really. But it wasnt that way always. Not too long ago they had an evolving civilization, prosperous empires, thriving international trade and ascendency over global power for hundreds of years .Then inevitably started their descent into the landfill of history where they are right now. Landfill is where organic materials decompose and turn into humus which if abandoned let poison Cactus grow. Vast Muslim land mass has been taken over by the harvesters of hate who are planting Cacti of ignorance, death and prejudice all over the place.
Collective delirium is not just faith based but is also of political, social , racial and national variety. In our case it is predominantly religious as there is nothing else worthwhile that Muslim world has to show for. However the seam that we have latched on to is dangerous and therefore too toxic to languish in for long. Elsewhere , Britain had an imperial delirium, lost the empire but managed to retain their sanity. Germans were made to live through a racial frenzy more than half a century ago, suffered enormously, peeled off the ugly coat and regained poise. Similarly US is sailing through a heady mix of military technological superiority cloud and might miss the goal post if fundamental human values continue to be pushed too far back at the victory stand . We are delirius not because we were able to dig out an old Oak barrel from the cellar but because strangely the toxic brew that is numbing our senses was prepared by eccentric Saudi and Egyptian faith distillers and imported raw into our country by the bootleggars in power.
The brew is poisonous and highly addictive at that. It maddens before it kills. Under the evil influence we are blindfolding ourselves, plugging our ears and shutting down our minds to reason, sensibility and practical wisdom. Then like sick lambs in the cattle yard we are being led to the pit for cremation. Slowly and methodically the frail body of our belief system is being amputated by the alien choppers and the dragons of deep dark grouse devouring our goodness limb by limb. Yet like accursed men we walk upto the chopping block; resigned and uncomplaining.
See what we are doing to ourselves and how recklessly but comprehensively at that. We started off on a contentious premise of being an ideological state for the Muslims of undivided India, a claim untenable ab initio. Few know and very few admit that independent Pakistan was a second option with the leaders of pre Partition All India Muslim League. Their original and consistent demand was a constitutionally guaranteed place for Muslims within the framework of undivided India. Having started off on the wrong foot we never recovered our national poise particularly after the fateful 1948 Kashmir adventure. Induction of Tribal lashkars into the Kashmir war along with their history of military campaigns and treasure hunts into the Sub continent, introduced an uncontrollable and distressing dimension into Indo-Pakistan relations. Our subsequent wobbly leaderships were sucked into the powerful vortex of militarism versus India, thus setting up a destructive surge in arms race, a martial mindset and prickliness towards neighbours. All that and an ear splitting clamor by the Islamist parties helped evolve and then induce a paranoia of insecurity and fear of a relentless conspiracy against the lone ideological Muslim state.
From here we went on to undo ourselves and our country . We disowned our only Nobel Prize winner Dr Abdus Salam ,forced him into exile and defaced his tombstone once buried in Pakistan just because we thought he was a lesser Muslim than us. While the whole world gave him standing ovation we dishonoured him willfully. His unique honour and death anniversary just passed quietly without a kind word for him except by a few consientious newspapers and magazines.
The other day Islamabad High Court ,in a truly landmark judgment ordered scrapping of FIR against Rimsha registered on a fake blasphemy charge by a land hungry mullah. But this is half the justice done. That villain should also be booked for his perjury ,who jeopardized her life and security , as long as she lives in our apparently unconcerned country. Our moral indignation is invariably short lived but bile lasts longer because we nurse our hurt fondly and forget kindness easily. Our horrible loss of compassion and shrinking capacity for magnanimity are fearsome.
Malalas courage and her physical pain has moved millions across the world. Unrepentant Taliban and thei r equally grotesque fellow men from UK( Sharia4Pakistan hoax) have threatened to issue condemnatory fatwas against the brave little girl. It is amazing how scared are these of unarmed Malalas defiance. They forget that calamities produce their own heroes .How many fatwas will they issue to silence thousands of Malalas and Lala Afzals who will keep rising against their tyranny.
Ajmal Kassab has been paid wages of his gory toils. However TTP has publically vowed to avenge his death regardless of the massacre that he took part in. How can you expect sense or remorse from a pack of habitual killers posing as soldiers of Islam? They have no country therefore no responsibility to others or to each other. They have nothing to lose as they have nothing to keep. It is us, the country, Pakistan which gets international reproof because of these vermin. Why should we put up with their reprehensible vanity? Consequently , if not for inaction ,we will surely be brought to book for buckling under and failure to carry our weight as a responsible state and society.
But we are not alone in this lunacy. We have equally deaf and dumb fellow men talking through their hats in Egypt and Saudi Arabia issuing unbelievably mindless decrees .Chief Saudi cleric has prohibited Arabs from talking to foreign media as an un-Islamic act. Where as a mufti in Egypt wants Sphinx and pyramids in Gizza demolished like what Taliban did to Bamyan Buddha.(Newsweek, November 30, 2012). Recently there has been a demand for Islamic or halal polio vaccine from that basin of blind bats called FATA. There could be nothing more ridiculous than this demand. Is there a Muslim vaccine, Hindu Penicillin or a Christian Aspirin? Tomorrow they may even ask for a certified Muslim Malaria or halal Small Pox. How does one explain this xenophobia in the name of Islam? It has nothing to do with Islam but everything to do with deeply imbedded prejudice, self imposed ignorance, severe inadequacy and most of all an inability to meet expanding challenges to the practice of religion in the modern world. What was gospel truth and taken for granted is being questioned today.
Our ulema have to raise the bar for themselves and come up with answers. They may lash them in the public square , shoot them in the head or hang them by the trees, these determined men and women will not give up their rights any more. How many schools will we let them destroy and how many girls shot or acid burnt before we come out of our deliberate but dishonourable delirium?
