Why do you sense sarcasm? No such thing meant in my post, infact I thanked your post on previous page.

Anyways, if true, 30 terrorists dead on one strike, is a huge blow to militants. Not everydsay such number die from sibgle strike.

I believe the article doesn't says if it was a single air strike, it may be multiple air strikes (multiple PGMs launched) happened on one location or multiple locations in one specific area.

So whatever the scenario, the press release would take it as a single air strike, meaning it happened at the same time in a same place.

Pakistan has taken impressive anti-militant steps: Petraeus

* US CENTCOM chief argues Islamabad fighting extremists in country’s own interest

WASHINGTON: Gen David Petraeus, chief of the US Central Command, on Sunday described as “impressive” Pakistan’s anti-militancy strides in recent months as he noted a widespread backing in the key South Asian country for the fight against extremism.

Appearing on NBC’s Meet the Press programme, Petraeus particularly noted the success of Islamabad’s anti-Taliban operations in Malakand division and FATA. Petraeus argued that Islamabad is fighting extremists in its own interest and not executing America’s war on terror.

However, Petraeus declined to comment specifically when asked as to what information was being gleaned from Mullah Baradar, a senior Afghan Taliban leader, recently captured from Karachi.

“What we’ve learned, actually, in working with our Pakistani partners, who have done some very impressive work over the course of the last 10 months in particular, is that it’s sometimes not best to talk a great deal about intelligence operations.” the US commander said.

On Islamabad’s recognition of the threat the violent extremism posed to the country, Petraeus said, “The Pakistani people and government saw this as the most pressing existential threat to their country, and they supported the Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps as it went into Swat and the Malakand division and then expanded its operations into FATA,” he stated.

“They’ve made some significant gains. They know they can’t just clear and leave. They have to clear, hold, build and, over time, transition to local security forces...” he added. Petraeus said the terrorist threat posed by al Qaeda had “diminished”, but he warned that al Qaeda was a “thinking, adaptive enemy,” so the US needed to “maintain pressure on it everywhere.” app

Gen Petraeus hails ‘breakthroughs’ in Pakistan

* US general rules out immediate action against Haqqani network
* Alleges Afghan Taliban hold meetings in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: US Central Command Commander General David Petraeus on Tuesday hailed “important breakthroughs” and detentions in Pakistan, following the capture of Taliban military commander Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and reports of other arrests.

“It is obvious that there have been a number of important detentions in Pakistan. It is very clear that there have been some significant intelligence operations,” Petraeus told reporters in Islamabad.

“This campaign is really quite impressive and I think some of the names of the leaders involved in this will be seen as quite expert practitioners in counter-insurgency strategies,” he said.

Petraeus said that any new, large-scale Pakistani offensive against groups such as the Haqqani network in the immediate future was unlikely, and that critics needed to appreciate the gains already made.

“You can only take on so many hornets’ nests at one time,” the general said.

The New York Times reported on Tuesday that Pakistani authorities have captured Mullah Abdul Kabir, a senior Taliban figure and top military commander fighting in the eight-year-war against US forces in Afghanistan.

But Pakistani officials told AFP they could not confirm the report, which said Mullah Kabir was detained in NWFP.

Asked about why Pakistan had moved against Afghan Taliban, the head of US Central Command said there was no single explanation.

“There have been some important breakthroughs. I don’t want to overstate this though either, because again there are a number of bad guys out there, but these have been significant,” Petraeus said.

“Some of the insurgent leaders from Afghanistan in particular tend to spend some of the winters in Pakistan and there are periodically meetings here. As always, there’s no single factor or explanation for what has taken place. Rather it’s a multi-varied equation,” he said.

His visit coincided with a suicide bombing on a military convoy in the Swat valley that killed nine people, including women and children. A Briton was also among the dead. afp/reuters

Pakistan has made strategic shift in war on Taliban’

WASHINGTON: The US has seen a “strategic shift” by Pakistan in the past six months during its fight against the Taliban, a senior US official said on Friday. Under US pressure, Pakistan is waging multiple military offensives against terrorists’ havens. Another senior US official told reporters that recent arrests of Afghan Taliban members and leaders in Pakistan “demonstrate there are fewer places to hide” there. US officials have been hailing a new spirit of cooperation with Islamabad against the Taliban. Agents from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) reportedly joined US spies in a recent operation that captured Afghan Taliban military commander Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in Karachi. And senior US general David Petraeus, who heads the Central Command, visited Islamabad on Tuesday and hailed “important breakthroughs” in the country. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Thursday that Pakistanis had come to regard extremists as a “direct threat to their state’s survival” and also pointed to its military offensive in the tribal areas. “I’m actually quite pleased to see the very vigorous response coming forth,” Clinton testified before the House Appropriations Committee. afp

PESHAWAR: With military officials stating that security forces have taken control of Bajaur agency, an announcement was made by the Frontier Corps commander that an operation was about to be launched in the Orakzai tribal region and the Tirah valley to quash militant hideouts.

Militants have been increasingly active in both areas. Recently, militants beheaded a kidnapped Sikh in the Khyber agency’s Tirah valley after his relatives failed to pay ransom.

The Orakzai tribal region, meanwhile, is known as the stronghold of Taliban commander Noor Jamal alias Toofan Mullah who has allegedly been declared as the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan’s caretaker chief.

It was long over due, the recent snow fall made the earlier launched operation to stall as the winter in those areas is very very harsh. The recent sikh kidnapping fiasco, the downing of Cobra and the subsequent deaths in the recovery operation, the downing of Mi-17 last year etc etc are all the events which call for an operation in this area, as many militants have come to hide in these areas.

I believe by end of march or start of april, operation may be launched as winter will be coming to a close and weather would be fair enough for an offensive.
