ISLAMABAD: US General Stanley McChrystal Monday appreciated the strength and capability of the Pakistan Army in the operation against militants and emphasized the need for more strategic cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries to counter the activities of extremist elements.

Talking to a group of journalists at the US embassy, the US General said, 'coordination is the key in success in the war against terror in the region.'

General McChrystal said he had been in touch with General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and talked with him about the ongoing issues and further cooperation between the armed forces of Pakistan and US.

"We have been able to discuss each and every thing and are comfortable with each other in these talks," he said.

He said, "trust deficit between Pakistan and US forces has been shrinking," adding that there was still need for more strategic cooperation to further reduce it.

The US General said he had very close relations with General Kayani adding that sometimes personal relations matter a lot in developing the operational cooperation.

He said, “the best thing we can is to build trust” for achieving the results in the war against terror.
Appreciating the strategic planning by Pakistan Army under General Kayani, General McChrystal said he was really impressed by this planning and termed it “very good”.

He acknowledged the sacrifices of the Pakistan Army and FC in the war against terrorism.

The US General said the US was seeking cooperation from Pakistan for developing joint strategic partnership and for joint and coordinated campaign plan.

General McChrystal said, “I don't have any doubt on the will of Pakistan Army as I have seen the courage and sacrifices of the Army.” He added that he was optimistic.

Referring to the threat of Al-Qaida and Taliban, he said there was still need for cooperation among all the stakeholders and stay committed to work against these terrorists who were still threat to the peace and security of the people.

Justifying the surge of international forces in Afghanistan, the US General said the main objective of the ISAF and US forces was to secure the areas to ensure peace and security for the Afghan people so that the Afghan forces could take on the responsibility.

Answering a question about the future role of Pakistan and other countries in this war against terror, the US General said, “I have not talked about 'do more'. We should all do what is appropriate and cooperate with each other as well as we can.” -APP

Wednesday, 06 Jan, 2010

KOHAT: Militants exhumed the body of a spiritual leader and blew up six other shrines in the Stori Khel area of lower Orakzai Agency on Tuesday.

Locals said heavily armed militants came to the area of the Stori Khel tribe, who have raised a lashkar against them, and dug up the grave of spiritual leader Anwarul Haq. They desecrated the remains and then took it to an unknown location.

The militants also blew up six other shrines in the Khwa area of Stori Khel.

The Stori Khel tribe has been fighting the Taliban for over a month to keep them away from their area.

Militant leaders -- Tariq Afridi, chief of Darra Adamkhel and Khyber Agency Taliban, and Maulana Akhunzada Aslam Farooqui, head of Orakzai Agency Taliban -- have been asking the Shia clan of the Stori Khel tribe to expel security personnel recently deployed in the area.

KHAR: Another government-run school was blown up in the Bajaur Agency on Tuesday.

Locals said an improvised explosive device had been planted at the Government High School for boys in the Malkana area of Nawagai tehsil, 30 kilometres from agency headquarters of Khar.

Sixteen rooms of the school were destroyed and five damaged, political tehsildar Ghulam Saidullah told reporters.

He said a group of about 50 persons had entered the school and planted the explosives.

Meanwhile, security forces defused two improvised explosive devices planted by militants on a road in the Raghjaan area of Salarzai tehsil on Tuesday.

The forces also arrested 12 suspects in different areas of Bajaur during a search operation.

The search was conducted in the Omari area of Mamond tehsil, Shago area of Khar tehsil and some areas of the Nawagai tehsil.

The forces also seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including Kalashnikovs, explosives and material used in bomb making, from the arrested persons.

The forces also targeted suspected militant hideouts with artillery, but no casualty was reported.

MINGORA: Three militants were killed and a security man was injured in a clash in Swat on Tuesday.

Military sources said the clash took place when the militants tried to enter the Banjeer village from the Morabanda area.

The forces also arrested 30 suspects and recovered a huge cache of arms in the Kabal tehsil and 60 suspects in the Mingora and areas on its outskirts.

Sources said the forces had imposed undeclared curfew in Kozabandai during the house-to-house operation.

The forces seized two hand grenades, two mortar shells, four remote-controlled bombs, 500 rounds of anti-aircraft guns and thousands of cartridges from the fields in Charbagh.

The forces also imposed curfew in different areas of the Mingora city.

BATKHELA: Two suspected militants were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces in the Malakand protected area on Tuesday.

Sources in the security forces said the clash took place in the jurisdiction of Qaidabad Levies checkpost near Harichand, along the border of Charsadda district.

""there is a lack of co-ordination on both sides, which I believe is now going to be ramped-up. accusing each other (esp when we r on the same side) dosnt help much!.""

"Coordination" is a misnomer in this conext. Cooridnation is between equals. Pakistan Army is being misused as a surrogate tool of convenience to releive pressure on the US Forces in Afghanistan for very low wages.

Only Yemani forces are fighting Americas war on its soil against its own people with the same level of enthusiasm.

Our beautiful nation has been robbed of its peace and tranquility through greed of its political and military leadership.

analysis: Drone attacks: challenging some fabrications —Farhat Taj

One of the most hair-brained articles I have ever come across.

Our sence of honor as a soveriegn nation has been desensitized to a level that paid comunists of Farhat Taj elk find an eager audiance amongst our people.

Its back to the ARVN days of Vietnam circa 1970, when South Vietnamese Army was "cooridnating" bombing of its own people and territory with the Americans. It is shameful that PAF while entrusted with the Defense of our sovereign air space cannot shoot down slow moving drones operating in its territory.

FGM-148 Javelin, its an Anti Tank guided Missile.
I'm not really sure if it can reach altitudes to shoot down a drone flying at 30,000 ft.

Both of these worked to shoot down UAV's. Dunno if they would work in real life, pretty neat that they used this kind of stuff in a video game.

They even used a map based on Pakistan!
