What you are saying is separation of church and state in European context. It is different in the Indian context.
BTW was India secular from 1950-1975? I hope you know that the word secular was inserted by Indira Gandhi during emergency when the opposition was in jail.
Separation of Church and state in the West is separation of Temples/Masjids/Churches etc from state in India. It is still the same.
Yes. I know it was added and I am glad she did though I do not like the way it was done.
Next you will say let's unban rape and murder
Common. Now you are arguing for the sake of arguing. You can do better.
Why is Polygamy an issue? Again it is the state allowing it not forcing it.
Even most Muslims do not practice this even though it is permitted.
At least we will not have people like Dharmendra who had to convert to Islam to marry Hema.
Polygamy was allowed all through history in Hinduism until British imposed this restriction on Hindus and we are still stuck with this nonsense even after independence.
I still do not get what is the issue with Polygamy. If the consenting adults who will be in the relationship do not have a problem, government simply has no business to object it.
Same laws for all people irrespective of religion is the very definition of secularism. The very fact that none of the "secular" Parties want it shows their fake secular credentials.
Haj, payment of salaries to imams, minority institutions not being under RTE, The non application of UCC, among others
Exactly, that is why I called it Pseudo Secularism meaning false secularism.
I am not interested in politics here and do not want to get digressed from the topic at hand. We should focus on the proposed policy only.
Yes. I agree a secular government has NO business in running places of worship or funding or subsidizing any activities related to religion.
All laws and policies should be indifferent to the religion of the citizen
India is secular because of Hinduism. Why don't other minorities like sikhs, jains, Buddhist or even micro minority like Parsees have any problems. In fact Parsees are the most developed community even if they are barely a few lakhs.
Great. Let's keep that tradition alive and ensure that Muslims too have no issues living and prospering along side majority Hindus.
We being the majority community should act with a big heart and embrace all minorities around us.
Let's not get ourselves become slaves to the history and get stuck in the web of blame game.
We cannot and should not hold current generation Muslims accountable to the acts committed by the Muslim rulers of the past.
It is the responsibility of this generation to deliver peace and prosperity to the next generation. We owe it and that should be our primary focus.
