The fine balance India is trying to strike between the two erstwhile Cold War rivals is also evident in the way the Indian Army will hold combat exercises with US and Russian forces this month.

The 'Yudh Abhyas' exercise between US troops from Fort Louis and Madras Regiment soldiers will be held at Chaubatia in Uttarakhand from September 14 to 27. The 'Indra' exercise between Russian soldiers and Kuma on Regiment troops will be held at Vladivostok from September 22 to October 2.

After Indian, US and Japanese warships conducted the top-notch Malabar exercise off Okinawa in June, India and Russia will hold their Indra naval wargames in theIndian Ocean around December

Title says: Now, India turns to Russia for mega defence deals
its just Army exercises..wheres deal in here.

Russians are offering nuclear propulsion technology for india's under development 65000T aircraft carrier, FGFA and other high tech defense items too. Something that US is not willing as of now.

So, as of now, we are having a choice to buy the best of the both. a good situation to be in.

India and Russia have lot on plate as far as new purchases are concerned but delays in executing existing contracts and quality issues along with irritation of price change (read increase) midway through deals are some points that need to be addressed.
Russia on its part knows that it would remain one of the largest defence supplier to India but changing world equations and access to western hardware and technology especially US origin, posses a threat to Russian market share. Let us see what offer Russia comes up with, given multi billion dollar deals already in pipeline in next decade for India.

Significant advantage that russia offers vis a vis US is the willingness to share, jointly develop and full TOT on new and sensitive technologies. Cost and quality issues are more than offset by the gains in knowledge and have given us a lot more than what is seen in open. Plus, the end user agreement (and the multiple restrictions that accompany) are much less intrusive.

Please read the full article through the link. Its "turning back" to assure russia that relations are as strong with them as usual. And deals signed earlier are still on track, plus we are open to new collaborations as well.
