Don't say we have not been telling you this - but Indian friends are generally defensive when someone form Pakistan says such thing to them, and in a way it's understandable --- But the message cannot be just make nice with these Pakistines and Lankan and Bangla and Nepal - it must include make nice with China - yes, ouch, but just for a minute leave behind all the nationalistic tripe and think - Pakistan, India and China - just think about that - such a coalition is not just prosperity, it's peace, not just in south Asia, but Asia.

Ok, so the very idea gets me giddy - consider the idea and propagate the idea - India at peace with herself and therefore with her neighbors, India prosperous and her neighbors as well - Pakistan, India and China.

It is true that India is not making friendly relations with neighbours. it is mostly because of the Policies of INC (Congress. I'm not bad mouthing INC btw) and its struggle in appeasing regional parties like DMK which affected foreign relations.
Sri Lanka,Nepal normally are supposed to be the closest ally of India. but it is not happening. India does not hold enemity with Bangladesh also. just Suspicions. acceptance is the first step. I think INC wants to resolve relations with Bangladesh.
Regarding Indo-Sri Lanka relations, Tamilian Parties hold a grudge against any cooperation between Sri Lanka due to the genocide of Tamils in northern Lanka. This prevents Ruling party to extend it's hands to Lanka.
As regarding Nepal, It is considered closest. Nepal and India share a non Visa binding Free Border. Nepalese are Free to Live in India. It is the failure of Policies towards Nepal that made Maoists get Influence in Nepal.
Leave Pakistan out of the discussion as it is impractical for many more decades.

Indian friends are taking is critique, poorly - well, it's understandable - after all, the article notes India’s dealings with its neighbors are mostly driven by arrogance and neglect. Obviously Indians do not wish to see themselves as arrogant and neglectful but perhaps they will begin by learning to not see every critique as a hateful expression

India treats China with more respect than their other neighbours? That still isn't very much at all.

It is the fear of the Congress party, rather than anything else, which leads them to keep an "appeasement" approach to China.

I don’t understand the ‘appeasement approach to China’. Is hosting Dalai Lama, the most wanted man by China, an appeasement policy? On numerous occasions, China even questioned US on Dalai Lama, but never insisted on India to relinquish Dalai Lama. China and India know that taking on each other is too much for their own good, hence no direct confrontation

I say India respects China for its achievements and the same goes the other way.

I say India respects China for its achievements and the same goes the other way.

Both have risen a lot in a short span of time.
China has risen more and India less(India started the process a bit late).
Both deserve respect,but yeah,China is ahead atm.

But how to do that: China, Pakistan and India? We have pretty much strong positions on certain issues, which are hard to reconcile

Or is it that the costs are huge, at least in the immediate terms, as compared to benefits for such conglomeration?
