Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned Hamas for failing to return the body of Shiri Bibas a mother who was abducted along with her two young sons during the initial stages of the conflict. Following forensic testing it is confirmed that the body returned by Hamas is not Shiri's or that of any other hostage. Netanyahu expressed deep sorrow for the loss of Shiri and her children, Ariel and Kfir Bivas who were brutally murdered while in Hamas captivity.

In his statement Netanyahu paid tribute to the victims, stating "The State of Israel bows its head to two small children tender babies brothers - Ariel and Kfir Bivas... and to Oded Lipshitz." He described the cruelty of Hamas as boundless highlighting unspeakable nature of their actions in not returning Shiri to her children and instead placing a Gazan woman body in a coffin. Netanyahu vowed to act decisively to bring Shiri home along with all hostages both living and deceased and assured that Hamas would face consequences for this violation.

Incident has garnered a lot of attention since it highlights the region's chronic humanitarian crisis and the difficulties in hostage talks. Since the October 7 attacks the Bibas family has come to represent the larger tragedy that many families impacted by conflict have to endure. There are increasing calls for justice and accountability for individuals who have been harmed by Hamas as Israel works through its response to this most recent event.
