In case you have not realised the Indian economy is going through a very bad time now and it could be several years till it starts growing at 7% a year plus. Defence, along with all other areas of government spending, will take a big hit.

While the BD Navy is currently weak, there are already plans to increase this substantially over the next 5-10 years.

With Pakistani, Bangladeshi, US and soon to be Chinese presence in the Indian Navy, forget about India ever "dominating" the Indian Ocean. India will be just one of many countries having a presence in the Indian Ocean.

Really ,do check the map and zoom it if you dont understand and see where Indian ocean is and where are pak and BD and think if the comment of your does hold.

Bangladesh? Bangladesh navy is a non entity in the Bay of Bengal, let alone the Indian Ocean. Its funny how you talk about the slowing Indian economy, yet you don't see the same problem with Pakistan which has been growing at 3% for the past 5-6 years.

Chinese will be overstretched, their home ground is the SCS, yes they can have a presence in the Indian Ocean, however they won't be in any position to dominate.

The strategic objectives of Indian Navy and the US Navy are the same, so we don't mind sharing the space with them, neither would they. Indian Ocean is Indian Navy's home ground, that along with the islands of Lakhswadeep and Andamans, and the way Indian peninsula juts into the Indian ocean, all adds to our advantage.

Whether you like it or not, Indian Navy will have the strongest presence in the business end of the Indian Ocean in the near future.

in 10 years indian navy wil be blue water navy. indian army and air force should follow her.

Not really , 10 years is a very short time frame to induct and develop a Navy which can be called "Truly Blue Water Navy" .

Today the only Blue water navy is US Navy.

Military conventionally by 2030 but the Navy will be more powerful than Pakistan, which will still have a stronger

The way I see Chinese presence in IOR is they set up bases in SL and Burma . In Africa, they can look into countries like Kenya / Tanzania or go even up north (Somalia setting up listening posts) or further down to Madagascar. If their naval ships have to call on any ports in SL / Burma / Tanza / Kenya / Somalia / Madagascar, India will have no business denying them access.

At best , what it can do is tail their ships or monitor their movements via satellites or airborne patrols. Beyond that, I don't see India being able to do much - until unless it is an armed conflict. Even by then, our assets will be sandwiched if the hypothetical arena I gave in the first para comes true.

And for those of my Indian brethren - the Chinese have a HUGE presence in Africa and are bagging contracts beating even INdians. Just like how the US sends naval vessels to evacuate its interests (citizens / capital) , the Chinese might as well use their vessels as a show of force.

An aside to this topic - when Indian naval vessels were on a tour in East Asia last year (2012), the Chinese navy tailed them throughout in the SSC. On the very end of the spectrum, the commanders from our navy were harping on freedom of the seas. Well, not exactly sir, you were tailed, you didn't like it, and you couldn't do much about the "ENFORCED ESCORT" So much for power projection.
