Navy could retire INS Viraat

Pakistan needs a aircraft carrier, how about we sell it to Pakistan?
are you given this a/c free, coze pakistan does has that habit and want everything free. also i dnt think PN have money to but this or maintain this big monster.

i don't think IAC 2 will be nuclear powered

navy thinks mid size carriers are enough

so no chance for N powered AC given that navy remains firm on current stance

Yes N powered IN ACCs are some time away- IN first needs to gain experience and develop tactics of having multiple CBGs N powered ACCs for IN can be kept till at least 2027.

You could give it BD for refurbishment. We will get it working for you again. Why are you chasing Russian all the time when you have affordable alternative in your neighbourhood.

No offence but anything BD can do India can easily do for themselves. The Indian shipyard construction industry is booming and is far more capable than BD's. And anyway Russia doesn't come into the equation- all the last upgrades/refits of the INS Viraat were carried out IN INDIA by Indian shipyards.

Unlike Russia , You do not have any technology or skills which we do not have in house. But still if you want some bangladeshi's to get employment in India, You can send thm for , Painting, cleaning and maintainance Job after we retire Viraat and make it museum.

But please come with PP N visa so that Evil BSF don't get a chance to welcome you.

Your country needs refurbishment. First help your self.

IN is yet to firm the specifications. So it can be anything like nuclear power, CATOBAR. CATOBAR is most likely cause IN is about to flot RPI for naval fighters with CATOBAR.

Nuclear power is possibility as I heard a news of development of nuclear reactor bigger than INS arihant. But it will be a decade long process. So Indian navy should go for another IAC for fill in gap

Last time we hear from IN was IAC 2 was planned. IAC -1 is nearly finish. If you think Navy is happy with mid size AC what are they thinking ??? IAC-2 should have followed same IAC 1 design. Don't you think so ? If IN is thinking about specifations like CATOBAR for mid size carrier ??? We don't have that tech. We have to buy it from USA.

Unless someone in IN is thinking of actual carrier battle group than just air defence ships. Any body has different view ???
IN has enough experience operating ACs so it will be good enough for CBG or CBGs.

I'd say IAC-2 was going to be 55-65,000 tonnes- still a "mid-size" ACC in comparison to the 100,000+ tone "Supercarriers" of USN and CATOBAR designed- possibly EMALS will be fitted as IN has shown interest in this tech and USN have given the IN a breifing on the system.

That's interesting. Can you give some source ???
IAC 2 was going to be 60000 tonnes class but now IN thinking about it may change it too. Right ?

Viraat has served the country is glory and dedication. The IN's warhorse stood tall protecting our coast and waters for a long time just as the IAF's MiG-21s stood tall against innumerable odds.

Now it is time that Viraat joins its elder brother in retirement. :)

Viraat has already gone for refurbishment and we've done it more than even what the British could think they could extract out of Viraat.

Thanks for the offer but Vikramaditya will be joining us by the end of this year followed by Vikrant-II who'd join us in the following year.

Besides, even if you could refurbish it, we don't have anything economical to fly off from it other than maybe helicopters. Harriers are retiring soon as well. This is simply because sea environment is much more hostile for machines than normal air.

One request to fellow Indian members - Please do not bring Pakistan in between the discussion. There is no need to do so.

I would love to go visit INS Viraat soon. Would love to see the monster. Also, I am waiting for the two ACCs we will be getting soon. :)
