NATO Using Smugglers along Pakistan's Border

Sure, you expected NATO to officially accept that they are paying smugglers to transport supplies?

Yep, as any good old murdering, torturing Feudal Lord would do.

We get that part.

Agno - do you sense a situation here where "you can take a horse to the water but you cant force it to drink it " when having a discussion with american wanabees?

Bottom line is we know and the facts state the Americans are stooping pretty low in using smugglers. Its almost funny because if anyone else was using illegal smugglers etc the western world would be up in arms - yet when its Americans they try to justify and make it out to be no big deal. Two faced democracy. Americans cannot be trusted anymore.

The lines in bold say it all.

He may not be facing problems from other supply routes but American taxpayers are facing problems as the money spend for supplies cost 6 times more than what it was from Pakistan.

An extra 100 million a month is paltry.

lets be clear..the only issue is cost..
it would cost US approx 4-5 billion dollars more every year to bring in their good through the other routes, due to acute shortage they are bringing in supplies through air that has increase cost by 50 times.

NATo had planned a backup plan in case the routes close, that is to use the central asian path but real issue is it has 9-10 times more cost .

fact is the AID they gave us in previous 10 years is nearly 1/3 of what they saved by using our routes

The allegation which claims that NATO is using smugglers to transport supplies into Afghanistan, through Pakistan, is absolutely false. We would like to stress the fact that we are not using any unconventional or questionable methods of delivering supplies to our troops in Afghanistan. As we have said before, our troops have adequate supplies to conduct their tasks and operations with consistent efficiency. We also have alternative routes to utilize in order to support our troops. However, we are continuously working with our Pakistani counterparts to find means of re-opening the supply routes. We hope that both countries will learn much from the incidents, which have severely tested our alliance, and work towards improving our bilateral relations, for the sake of stability and security in the region.

Forgive us for perhaps doubting you but in the past your government has been known in the past to be full of liars - and on this instance we believe the reports and not you.

^^^^^ Yea Centrcom you also think Indians need 12 consulates in Afghanistan. Taliban tourists for India and America?? Or to train terrorists to attack Pakistani civilians

What a big tamasha over 1.2 billion dollars extra spend per year by USA/NATO due to closure of Pakistani routes. How much difference would that make to a military which had a 2011 budget of close to 700 billion dollars. No prize for guessing who is going to blink first...

there was a revelation of this 2 weeks back when FCs seized a container truck (trucks?) containing contraband and other smuggled goods headed for Afghanistan

if the border routes are closed, then they are closed for a reason...it's silly to try to circumvent laws or resolutions that have been passed by a government. Such attempts are largely futile, as they will be discovered.

are the Taliban asleep? the smugglers have to seek protection from Taliban, so they can smuggle goods to the Talibans worst enemy. sounds about correct?

sounds about correct.....well the talebs dont even target all the regular NATO trucks; they'd need a lot more detonators, more explosives more small arms and fighters to do that

the trucks dont have ''NATO'' label on them

"Money talks, sometimes it sings and sometimes it shouts!"

Doesn't that sound more correct? :D

by the way, the Italians the Frenchies ---a lot of the other ISAF military forces in NATO-controlled Afghanistan do the exact same thing.....they basically pay them (cash) not to plant IEDs or open small-arms fire on their convoys
