KRAIT, I havn't got your opinion on flexibility of freedom of speech in India as compared to US and nature of blasphemy law of in India?
Oh, forgot. See Indian case is quite different. I mean you see Indian media going full throttle on anyone. You have all types of news channels and all covering good to bad aspect of our country but Indian print media especially is quite sensitive about reporting communal news. They don't disclose the religion of the conflicting parties to avoid any further rumors or riots.
Similarly, Indian media like any other media sells sensationalism. hence they often breach certain lines too. They present things in wrong fashion and even act immaturely.
See, you can't compare Indian media to US media. US media and society is more open. Indian society may seem modern but till its latched to its cultural roots and still believes in superstitions, stigmas and dogmas. Some things are considered taboo and hence our media don't even try to present it and even if they do, they get opposition.
Watch a tv series The Newsroom, the new one which started on 2012. Its about US news channel.
Media can be divided in many groups, some sections are developed, some are still avoiding many basic topics.
As for blasphemy law, I don't think its such a huge issue. I mean Indians don't got crazy if someone tears a holy book or defile a temple. I mean yeah there may be many incidents but we are talking of 1.2 billion people. Blasphemy laws and especially strict ones can't be applied in India. Reason behind is that if they are introduced, due to lack of Police and other security forces, people will often use it and take justice in their own hands.
There are so many things to discuss, if you can ask specific point wise, then it will be easy for me to give you answers accordingly.
