If father is pashtun and he can speak pashto, then he is considered pashtun.

What would my cousin's son be ? Father's a Kashmiri Khawaja whereas the Mother is a Yousafzai Pukhtoon from Peshawar ! Naturally the son is fluent in Urdu because it wouldn't make any sense teaching him either Pashto or Punjabi for the other parent couldn't understand it.

And what if the children don't speak pushto.

Would they be Pathans.

the Society dont consider them proper pashtuns...mixed marraiges are still rare in pashtun areas, only happen in big cities, so it is responded with surprize. because of their pashto speaking father, they are identifed as pashtuns..but in 3rd or 4th generation of mixed marraige, they compeletly lose pashtun label if they are not speaking pashto...
