Narendra Modi loses key state election as Covid grips India

That is shocking! I expect BJP has clean sweep in these election as all Indian almost worship Modi like God! :enjoy:
India is world's largest democracy, people themselves decide who is going to be their Prime minister or Chief minister. No political party or person can decide that for the people of India.

The result is due massive misgovernence of the country, corruption, collapsed economy, unemployment and dictatorship of modi gang.

No it is not .

BJP rose from 3 seats in 2016 to 81 this time . 38% vote share .

BJP retained Assam .
NDA won Puducherry .

Got 4 seats in TN , matched their highest tally in TN ever . Last time they got 0 .

The only disappointment was Kerala .

Kerala won due to good governance of left.

In Tamilnadu there is huge anti incumbency against AIADMK which makes win a cakewalk for DMK.

In Puducherry BJP succed in breaking away a fraction of cong made an alliance and won.

In Bengal muslims voted en masse for TMC as well as women votes and urban votes mostly have gone for TMC.

In Assam BJP won because of their ground work though congress tried but failed miserably.

Women have a LOT more freedom in West Bengal than in Hindi belt...you would see women renting houses on their own inn Bengal..things like that are unthinkable in the Hindi belt...there are tens of thousands of young women from the North East and Nepal who live on their own as roommates in Kolkata..this sort of thing is completely unthinkable in the Hindi belt....Bengalis (even Hindus) were apprehensive that Hindi belt style of religious fundamentalism and misogyny will enter Bengal with the triumph of BJP..............Also slow enforcement of vegetarianism or slow stigmatization of non-vegetarianism is also many Bengali's minds ................and one more thing the way BJP stalwarts like Yogi Adityanath frame their pro-women ideology is very very unsavoury..They say we should see the dignity of our mothers ,sisters, daughters is protected.....this sort of language may elicit consternation in many quarters in Bengal....A woman doesnot need to be someone's mother, daughter or sister to be worthy of her rights and protection from the State...

Also Muslim posters from other parts of India fail to recognize Hindu-Muslim relations in Bengal ....A Muslim in Bengal is Bengali first and then a Muslim in the eyes of the Hindu majority...

There is a huge overlap in culture between Bengali Muslims and Hindus for primarily two reasons...Muslims in Bengal use Bengali language and script and Muslim women in Bengal also wear saree...

Muslims in other states of India set themselves apart by using Perso-Arabic script of Urdu....This makes them look like someone with different ethnicity rather than someone with different religion

One thing I must add that BJP has managed to resist from bringing in Hindi belt culture in Assam even after dominating the state...Gender relations are also much better in Assam than in Hindi Belt...on par or perhaps even better than Bengal

BJP tried to boost its image in Bengal by roping in glamorous female fashion designers as their electoral candidates...this has payed off

Durga Puja has been till now largely a Bengali ethnic festival....BJP has tried to play up the religious aspect of Durga Puja this time around

Why didn't the Muslims vote for ISF and Peerzada Abbas Siddiqui? Very disappointing.

I like how congress is celebrating their demise. They won no state, some regional parties won the election. BJP increased their margin in key states, especially in Bengal they went from 3 to 77. Won Pondicherry, retained Assam. While congress who was to return to power in Kerala (as trend goes every 5 years) failed to win the state, didn't overthrow the Assam govt, lost Pondicherry, lost all its remaining seats in Bengal and is a B team of DMK in TN. As Rahul Kanwal said, congress is in the ocean.

Because they would split the Muslim vote, the core vote that's important for Mamta to win.

Prime minister defeated in West Bengal as voters send message over handling of coronavirus crisis

In WB, BJP had 3 seats last time which was highest since 1947. This time they hot 70+. BJP retained Asam and captured pondichery. In kerala and Tamilnadu, BJP non entity since 1947. They have lost nothing.
Mamata owes us big time. Hope she delivers this time

You have a lots of expectation from the remote test corner of the India . I am very glad to see that.

BJP went from 3 seats to 80 seats

I don't understand why everyone is calling this defeat. that is a 27 X increase in seat share.

In another 5 years their seat share will Increase .

The trend is worrying .

But congratulation on WB people for standing up to BJP terrorists. A win is a win.

Serious invest in the education of the people who live in the constituencies where the BJP won is needed.

Hopefully TMC will act on this.

The right word for India is DEMOCRATIC DICTATORSHIP lol

Depends on what she 'can' deliver. Don't think it'd be easy though given the principal opposition is BJP.

Not surprising coming from someone who is yet to have a Prime Minister complete his full term and had 4 Military coups in 70 years of existence with 20+ years under some dictator.

Bjp got few seats in Bengal due to tranfer of lefts votes. Next year they will lose UP and in 2024 they will lose centre.
Yes, didn't expect that. Well, you win some and loose some.
Like I said now bjp will lose UP next year and in 2024 they will be kicked out of power in centre.

When votes are counted for 19 of the total 30 Assembly seats in the Union Territory, NDA has won 11 (AINRC 8 and BJP 3), DMK 2 and Congress 2 . While DMK is leading in 1, Independents are leading in 3 seats. NDA needs five more seats to get a absolute majority to form the next government in the Union Territory.

In a setback for BJP in Puducherry, party president V. Saminathan lost to Congress candidate M. Vaidianathan by a margin of 5701 votes from Lawspet constituency

So the BJP got beaten?
