Payload would be same as IAF Tejas.

Theoretically its possible with some modifications, specially the ski-jump.

1) Naval LCA needs 14 degree ski-jump while Viraat has 12 degree.

2) Naval LCA needs 195 m run way, Viraat's over all length is 226 m while IAC-1 where the NLCA will be based has a length of 260 m.

3) Needs lot of modifications in the controls and logistics as well.

Viraat will be retired when IAC-1 joins the Navy.

Thanks Kinetic,

I thought Navy wants to operate 3 carriers from 2015 onwards and Viraat will be retired once IAC - 2 is in service ( Viraats life is extended till 2020 I think)

Acutally IAC-1 was build to replace Viraat. Though its possible that it could stay in service until 2020 as its in good condition and upgraded recently. But I think it will retire after IAC-1 fully takes over by 2016/17.
