N-deal with Pak could hit ties, India cautions China

NSG has every right to amend the its rules just as India or Pakistan has an ability to modify its constitution by democracy. What you call violation is the progressive change to keep up with the time.

Why is Pakistan shying away from getting such an exemption for itself given that India has already has defined a path to achieve this ?

Every country has the liberty to choose their own path with their own diplomacy,,we are doing it in a different manner..

so what you are implying is that US will put in place economic sanctions against China? The simple answer is No! it would be extremely dangerous for US itself
1) China is the largest lender to US (holder of largest USD reserves) if US put economic sanctions then the demand for dollar will face a sever hamper as the US will lose its largest lender. Not only that, large sell trriger from China will lead to devaluation in USD, as other reserve holders and investors will face their wealth in USD denominated investments declining, this will trigger a 2nd rally of sell signals leading to a further deterioration. for stabalization, when USD will look for demand of dollars, simply there wont be much as investors will like to invest in stable currencies (like Euro). you can search on google that in the times of crisis China was not ready to buy US treasuries and wanted obama's guarantee which obama unwantedly undertook.
2) Furthermore, Though having a strong export sector contributing to growth, most of the growth in China now stems from internal demand rather than external one. This can be verified by looking at the GDP break-up and growing bank credit along with rising property and security markets.
So If US decides to go hard on China.....it will have more dangerous effects on US economy still lingering for a stable growth than China

Nope...I just clarified another member's assertion that China cannot be sanctioned. I never said the US will sanction China.

Indian members are unbelievable, I am still wondering what has been so hard in these 285 posts that they can't understand about the reasons for this deal and why it is needed and what would be the requirements.

Military specific nuke deals are not advertised, they happen behind the scenes without anyone knowing about it, till the reactors show up on satellite imagery, so if these deals have been advertised, its common sense they are for power generation and will come IAEA safeguards and monitoring.

Can members stop spinning round and round with not being able to catch the tail. ??????? Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

China and Pakistan if they are doing any behind the scenes MILITARY nuke deal wouldnt want to let out a whiff of anything out. Any such detection could lead to the US immediately arming Taiwan with Nukes as the US is going to take this as a threat to its authority. That could make things messy across the Taiwan straits. The US could be ok with Japan developing nukes and circling China. Right now there is a delicate balance with both the US and China under cease and desist on several fronts. I'll be interested to see if China will upset the applecart to improve ties with Pakistan, arguably just because India will be pissed off. Beyond all the noise, how much is China actually interested in conflicting with India and upsetting the balance with the US and world nations? Is Pakistan that important to China? Only time will tell. The waiting game is on.

Anyways, a happy father's day to all fathers here.

THAT scenario is largely irrelevant here.Point is Pakistan is already nuclear armed and has more then 60 war heads as such these new reactors won't change situation with regards to our Military Nuclear Program.

Thats not the point, it is the example it sets for the rest of the world,
India has already been accepted as a defacto nuclear power, and isreal is tolerated , if pakistan continues down the same path, it is harder to stop burma and iran etc.

having said that i believe its hypocritical that some countries have them and some dont, if the us is worried about non proliferation it should embark on a universal abolishment of nuclear weapons.

Wat r u talking about??

Do u remember wat obama said?we are sure nukes of Pakistan are in safe hands.. etc
Isnt tht enough ? or the IAEA confrences and other stuff where Pakistan is invited or UN? we faced the embargo n sanctions for a decade ... its not the same situation now...
US needs us more then ever...

And the highlighted part makes a fat 0 sense...

Are u counting Pakistan with we dont know even of they r working on Nukes countries???

We are a declared NUCLEAR STATE....Is tht so hard for u to understand?

And we dont need civilian reactors frm china to meet fissile material we already make it and have military facilities.

The N.Deal with china is for peaceful purposes for our energy needs.

Lol do you look at the stupidity of the argument "India crossed the rules But Pakistan cannot "

And WHY Pakistan or ANY other Nation for that matter cannot get the same exemption ? You guys might have a decent economy but you are letting that get to your head so much that your basic perception of justice is getting distorted

Agreed about Pakistan but this is about China as well. China cannot afford to be seen as militarily nuclear arming pakistan. If anything, it has to be on the civil side, very clearly with explicit controls. A verifiable, access controlled nuclear power on the civil side for Pakistan is something that Pakistan should be able to ultimately get. I am not sure what anybody will gain by keeping Pakistan in the dark ages. The worse thing Pakistan can do is divert any civilian reprocessing to the military and permanently disqualify itself from access to any sort of nuclear power. My guess is Pakistan will end up signing the NPT, as it simply does not have the bargaining power India has to get deals outside the NPT. Pakistan should not be looking at India to sign the NPT. It should sign the NPT, gain the moral upper hand, get the civil nuclear deal and move on. If I were the Pakistani PM, I would immediately move to sign the NPT.

(RTTNews) - China defended Thursday its civilian nuclear co-operation with Pakistan to build two new nuclear reactors, and vowed to take its military ties with Islamabad to a "new high."

A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman claimed that its nuclear co-operation with Pakistan was peaceful in nature and was under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He added that China's plan to provide Pakistan with two new reactors was in line with its international obligations.

The Chinese observation came following talks between visiting Pakistan Army Chief of Staff, General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, and China's Defense Minister Liang Guanglie.

It also came after the U.S. State Department stated it had sought clarification from Beijing on the sale of two new nuclear reactors to Pakistan.

"This appears to extend beyond co-operation that was grandfathered when China was approved for membership in the Nuclear Suppliers Group," it said.

The Chinese defense minister said Beijing would join hands with Pakistan to take military relations to a new high. The two countries should make continuous efforts to boost their joint defense programs, he added.

"Co-operation between the Chinese and Pakistani armed forces is exemplary and has been fruitful," Liang, also a state councilor, was quoted as having said by Xinhua during the meeting.

Terming the defense ties between the two countries as "all- weather," Chinese officials said both Beijing and Islamabad had "pledged to strengthen these ties" after the Kayani-Liang meeting.

Kayani, who is heading a high-level Pakistani military delegation on a five-day visit to China, also met with Chinese Minister for Public Security Meng Jianzhu, top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo, and the vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, Guo Boxiong.

Bangguo said Beijing would work for promoting a strategic co-operative partnership with Islamabad.

Highlighting the co-operation between the armed forces of the two neighbors, he added that joint efforts to combat the "East Turkistan Islamic Movement" was a testament to the fact that Pakistan-China relations were on the right track.

How much do you need???

That what we are saying, on the one hand you are expanding you weapon arsenal, a very compact Plutonium based design(chinese), which enables you to do many things.
Plus you need HIghly Enriched Uranium also including Plutonium.

why???

and you want a nuclear deal so that you can enrich Plutonium enough for 200 bombs a year.

The Nuclear reactor will be under IAEA watchdog. So how can we use those tech for 200 bombs a year.

How many warheads USA need? they already got enough weapons to destroy the whole world many times

How many India need? they already got enough weapons to destroy Pakistan and India?

Aren't you still not producing Nuclear bombs as well as signing deals with other nations for nuclear fuel and power plants :cheesy:

you only have 2 reactors, 2 are being build, would you put all those reactors under scanner???

Deal with China means officialy not just allowing the Material but also the technology OPENLY, how many sanctions did you have after recieving the technology speacially for bomb from China, secretly?? What AQ khan did can be done again and still Pakistan continues with its Nuclear Ambition.
So don't tell us your theories.
