বান্দরবানের নাইক্ষ্যংছড়ির দোছড়ি সীমান্তে টহলরত বর্ডার গার্ড বাংলাদেশ (বিজিবি) সদস্যদের লক্ষ্য করে মিয়ানমার সীমান্ত পুলিশ (বিজিপি) সদস্যদের ওপর গুলিবর্ষণের ঘটনার পর থেকে পানছড়ি ক্যাম্পের ইনচার্জ (আইসি) নায়েব সুবেদার মিজানুর রহমানকে পাওয়া যাচ্ছে না। গতকাল বুধবার সকাল ৯টায় এ ঘটনার পর ইতোমধ্যে ২৪ ঘণ্টা পেরিয়ে গেলেও নিখোঁজ ওই বিজিবি কর্মকর্তার ভাগ্যে কি ঘটেছে তা জানা যায়নি।

বিজিবির পক্ষ থেকেও গুলিবর্ষণের ঘটনার ব্যাপারে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে কিছু জানানো হচ্ছে না। তবে বিজিবির কক্সবাজার সেক্টরের মুখপাত্র মেজর ফেরদাউস স্বীকার করেন, গতকাল বুধবার সকাল থেকে বিজিবির একজন সদস্যকে পাওয়া যাচ্ছে না। তাকে খুঁজে পেতে ব্যাপক তল্লাশি চালানো হচ্ছে বলে তিনি সাংবাদিকদের জানান।

সীমান্ত পরিস্থিতি নিয়ে গত ২১ মে নাইক্ষ্যংছড়ি উপজেলার লেম্বুছড়ি বাহির মাঠ এলাকায় বাংলাদেশ ও মিয়ানমারের মধ্যে সেক্টর কমান্ডার পর্যায়ের বৈঠকে উভয়পক্ষ পারস্পরিক সৌহার্দ্য বজায় রাখার বিষয়ে সম্মতি প্রকাশের পর এক সপ্তাহের মধ্যে বিজিবি সদস্যদের ‌ওপর দু'দফায় হামলার ঘটনা ঘটলো। এর আগে গত ২২ মে তম্ব্রু বাইশফাঁড়ি সীমান্তে বিজিবি জওয়ানদের লক্ষ্য করে গুলিবর্ষণ করে মিয়ানমার সীমান্ত পুলিশ।

দায়িত্বশীল একটি সূত্র জানায়, গতকাল সকাল ৯টার দিকে ৫২নং সীমান্ত পিলারসংলগ্ন পানছড়ি আগাপাড়া এলাকায় গুলিবর্ষণের এ ঘটনা ঘটে। এ সময় ওই এলাকায় টহলরত বিজিবি সদস্যরা ভয় পেয়ে দু'ভাগে বিভক্ত হয়ে নিরাপদ স্থানে সরে গিয়ে আত্মরক্ষা করেন। কিছুক্ষণ পর অন্যরা নিকটস্থ ক্যাম্পে ফিরে এলেও নায়েব সুবেদার মিজানুর রহমানের কোন সন্ধান কেউ দিতে পারেন নি। বিজিবি সূত্র জানায়, মিজানের বাড়ি কুমিল্লা জেলায়।

সূত্র আরো জানায়, বদলি হয়ে সম্প্রতি তিনি পানছড়ি ক্যাম্পের দায়িত্ব নেন। এলাকা সম্পর্কে কোন অভিজ্ঞতা না থাকার কারণে পথঘাট চিনতে না পারায় মিয়ানমার সীমান্ত পুলিশ তাকে ধরে নিয়ে যেতে পারে বলে ধারণা করা হচ্ছে। এদিকে, অসমর্থিত একটি সূত্র জানায়, অনুসন্ধানকালে বর্ডার লাইনের কাছাকাছি একটি স্থানে তারা রক্তের দাগ দেখতে পেয়েছেন। তবে ওই রক্ত মানুষের কিনা সে ব্যাপারে নিশ্চিত হওয়া যায়নি।

বিজিবির কক্সবাজার সেক্টর সূত্রে জানানো হয়, মিয়ানমার সীমান্ত পুলিশ (বিজিপি) কর্তৃক বিজিবি সদস্যদের লক্ষ্য করে বারবার হামলার বিষয় নিয়ে আগামী ৩ জুন বাংলাদেশ-মিয়ানমার সীমান্ত বৈঠক অনুষ্ঠানের সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে।

Naikonchari, Bangladesh: A Sector level flag meeting for border security between Burma and Bangladesh was held at Dusori nearby pillar No. 50 of Naikonchari upazila under the Bandarbon district, Bangladesh May 21, according to a BGB aide, who did not say his name.

“The meeting especially discussed the border security issue which the Burma alleged to Bangladesh that unknown troops entered to Burma from Bangladesh and attacked the border guard police camps,” the aide said.

In the meeting, Col. Tin Ko Ko, the director, Burma border guard police headquarters of Maungdaw appraised that --- a group of unknown troops entered Burma through the pillar No. 37, on May 13, and on May 17, through pillar Nos. 51-52 and attacked border guard police camps and also they fired at around 450- bullet, according to a BGB officer from the meeting.

The border guard police Battalion Chief also said, “If any group attacks Burmese security forces through Bangladesh border in future, flag meeting will not be held between two countries in future.”

Bangladesh has summoned Myanmar’s ambassador in Dhaka to protest against the detention of a border guard by Burma’s border police.

Nayek Md Mizanur Rahman of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) remained missing since Wednesday morning following “an indiscriminate firing by the Myanmar Border Guard Police”, the foreign ministry said.

Dhaka has demanded his release and also “a thorough investigation” into the incident to prevent a repeat.
Secretary (Bilateral) Mustafa Kamal handed over a “note verbale” to envoy Myo Myint Than on Thursday.
He also protested against the indiscriminate firing along the border.

The BGB member was patrolling along the Bangladesh-Myanmar international border with the team when he went missing amid indiscriminate firing.

According to the foreign ministry, the Myanmar ambassador promised that the matter would be immediately conveyed to the Myanmar authorities. He also said “he would revert back to Bangladesh side as soon as he hears from them”.

The foreign ministry said Bangladesh embassy in Myanmar had also lodged “a strong protest” with the Myanmar foreign ministry. It also demanded his release and an immediate investigation into the matter.

The foreign ministry said it was “closely monitoring the situation”.

Additional BGB deploy in Myanmar border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has deployed additional forces along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Nykhangchhari of Bandarban as tension mounted in the area following Wednesday’s firing on a BGB patrol team and detainment of one of its members by the Myanmar Border Guard PoliThe BGB member, Nayek Md Mizanur Rahman, remained captive till the time of filing the report.

“Additional forces have been deployed along the border and Mizanur still remains missing,” acting Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban Ishrat Jaman told The Daily Star last night.

Myanmar Border Guard Police opened indiscriminate fire on a BGB patrol team near Pillar No 52 at Panchhari Aga area in Dochhari union of Nykhangchhari around 8:30am on Thursday and took away Mizanur, reports our correspondent quoting witness.

Meanwhile, the foreign ministry today afternoon summoned the ambassador of Myanmar in Dhaka to lodge a strong protest of the incident and demanded immediate release of the captive Mizanur Rahman.

While meeting with the Myanmar Ambassador, Secretary (bilateral) Ambassador Mustafa Kamal also demanded for a thorough investigation into the incident to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future, says a foreign ministry press release.

The Myanmar ambassador assured that the matter would be duly conveyed to the concerned authorities in Myanmar immediately and that he would revert back to Bangladesh side as soon as he hears from them.

Bangladesh Embassy in Myanmar also lodged a strong protest with the Myanmar Foreign Ministry demanding an immediate investigation into the matter and release of the captive BGB member.
