Well these double standards are pretty common in Europe where men cover themselves up well but women often leave their legs and arms exposed and that too in pretty cold weather some times. I could never figure out the philosophy behind this.
True, I myself have been perplexed by the logic of women wearing leaving their legs bare during winters, regardless of the impracticality and discomfort. I have seen this even when it was snowing, sub-zero temperatures. While men have no such standards to worry about and can cover their legs.

My two cents !

I don't think one should make much of an issue out of what a woman does or does not wear never mind going on a border-line witch-hunt on this.

That said I do find it very interesting how femininity and emancipation has found herself defined in a manner, in terms of clothing, much different than its equivalent has for men. I often find it intriguing to see that men, by and large, don't wear low cut dresses, they don't wear back-less dresses, find the need to expose their legs, wear shorts that barely cover their butts or wear any piece of clothing that is very minimal in its nature and consider it as being stylish or modern. Heck even male athletes don't, always, wear such exposing clothes subject to some exceptions of course.

I wonder if its because of something to do with female physiology that requires them to wear a skirt instead of pants (like men do) when, say, playing golf or wearing a backless dress to a dinner instead of non-exposing dress (like a tuxedo) like men do.

Or is it a natural reaction to years of suppression that women have had to suffer at the hands of men and as a consequence they've, unconsciously, defined femininity and emancipation in defiant terms including an antithesis of what they were asked - nay forced, to wear !

Or have we men defined femininity in provocative terms whereby we've added sexual overtones to it and its also manifested itself in terms of dressing whereby men, through their demeanor - not words, have indicated that they'd notice a woman more who's dress is more minimalist than not. And that women have simply followed suite.

Or is it because of all of the above at once.

Hmmmmn.....it would make an interesting discussion if one were to deconstruct this in a scientific manner. I wonder what anthropologists and experts on gender studies have opined about this.

I know this maybe a touchy question to ask but you ever tried to inquire as to why they leave their legs uncovered?

Read this.

This picture of Selena Gomez, Adam Sandler and Kevin James is everything that’s wrong with Hollywood | Entertain This!

Those who idolize actually dont understand that women have been made into objects here. Objects of desire.

Why do we need a naked woman wearing just shoes to sell those shoes? Or why do we need a naked woman wearing only jeans to sell those jeans?

I saw a jeans ad in which a topless model wearing jeans only is mounted on a horse. The symbolism of that ad is quite stark- a horse mounted by a sexy, topless woman!

If this is not denigration of a woman, if this is not sexism, then what is?

Females are perhaps not to be blamed as much but those men who have brought them to the limelight for their vicious interests. Aurton ko bazar mein mard hi bithatey hein.

Nobody truly knows women my friend but believe me when i tell you that they do like sex and they do look at men from a sexual point of view.

True but I do hope that there are women out there (and men out there) who view marriage as 'companionship' where some primal instinct like procreation (......) is not an issue.

A female is perhaps not to be blamed but those men who have brought them to the limelight. Aurton ko bazar mein mard hi bithatey hein.

I am not blaming anyone...I am just thinking out loud.

No, I never inquired directly because like you said I felt it could be interpreted as inappropriate or offensive. However, there are some women who have converted to Islam from that culture in my family, and according to them it was just something normal and fashionable for them. Quite similar to some Pakistani sisters who do not cover their heads.

As if Muslim world has no other problems that those mullahs should take care off, they have a big influence in a considerable amount of population, god forbid they speak against violance. :disagree:

That my friend, was a very mature way to look at this issue. I guess in my eyes it is more to do with the fact that women define themselves by how they look more then men do. And they have taken beauty to be what men think it is, shapely legs, thin waists etc. I would have thought that feminism would stop this, but apparently they did rebel and their rebellion has backfired because now women are judged on not only facial feature, but a bunch of other features as well.
How perverted is it that Miss World degrades women more then any other organisation, yet is what women strive for in terms of beauty. I wonder if you watch Last week tonight with John Oliver, if not please do.
My two cents !

How beautifully Allama Iqbal has summed up Western culture and society:

The Western culture depraves both heart and vision,
Because the soul of that culture is no longer chaste.

I'll tell you. It's the age old discomfort some men have when they see women achieving something, or having a life. Morality is used as a tooll, a stick to beat women with, when no other tools are available. If it really was about islamic morality being corrupted, there would be equal calls to men (sportsmen or others) when they expose their navel or thighs. (That's supposedly prohibited by the same islam.)

In earlier days, people could argue and implement laws that women going out and working is immoral. Now they can no longer do that, so they pick on whatever they can, to belittle any woman who achieves something that that man never can. No such outrage or "opinion" is expressed when men reveal a lot more. @TankMan is lying, knowingly or unknowingly, when he says that such "opinions" are expressed in equal measure about men as well, just that the media does not report it.

It is a plain, indisputable fact that only women are at the receiving end of this moral policing, mostly.

By the way, there are threads on this forum of Pakistani male bodybuilders displaying everything except their you-know-what. Plenty of members, Pakistanis included have commented there, and nobody has expressed the "oh-my-pious-muslim-eyes-are-hurt" line. Bunch of bleeping hypocites.

This is in Lahore:

Pakistan-Won-the-10th-South-Asian-Bodybuilding-Championship9-3-14.jpg

This is the PDF thread about the same, and there are plenty more:

Pakistan win South Asia bodybuilding championship

Go through the comments there - all about "we martial Pakistanis, unlike weak Indians..." Not a single statement about islam or modesty or Allah's commands.

@Jf Thunder @TankMan @gambit @Beast
i second what you say, when Islam came, it gave women their full rights, but as time passed the pressed Mullahs couldn't take the liberty of women anymore and started to make pretexts to keep them in the walls of their homes

this thread is progressing in a nonsense manner... mullah supporters quote religious verses to use as excuse for their own hypocrisy, yet they refuse to reply to my points.

this thread be closed... people are using "religion" instead of common sense.

come on... i won't always be drooling, with a vulgar expression on face. :)

and my point to zarvan was to think also of female mind and its desires, which is bound especially in south asian context by strange traditions.
you thoughts and comments show that you are always drooling with a vulgar expression............

modesty and burqa-fication are two different things.

1. what is your understanding about the money system as per quran and how is it applied by the deobandis/wahabis/ayatollais??

2. i declare that money system be abolished and people live as a scientific unified humanity... but quran still has money system... what is your opinion??

3. i posted pictures of a thigh-displaying male and spoke of males wearing shorts... your opinion, please??
Rear Sahib Bukari for all your answers and then we can discuss on that.
