I am basically fom Karachi and belongs to a urdu speaking middle class family but that does not mean that everyone in Karachi is supporting MQM, its only the suburbs where most of the lower middle class lives,

Have we ever realized that how organized MQM is. Have you ever heard a mqm assembly member became a lota and joined another party. Their politics is based on ethinicity not on people.

They rule the minds of people unlike other parties in other provinces whose Ideologies are based on their elite people (The landlords and beaureacrat).

In general both the ideologies are cancer for the country, for MQM karachi is a gold mine...and that fat basturd (replica of Rajni Kanth) having fun in london with all the knows murderers.

With All Due Respect I Think That You Forgot The Killing Of AZIM AHMED TARIQ And Many Other Like Him .. Azim Ahmed Tariq Was The Right Hand Of This MORON Sittin In London But He Was Killed Because He Wanted To Leave MQM And He Had So Much Evidence That Altaf Hussain Might Have Gone To Hell.

This is an overly simplistic appreciation of the situation. Karachi can and never will lose its strategic importance over to Gwadar. There multiple reasons for it but the greatest one is that Karachi had infrastructure and rail, air and road linkages to the rest of the country that Gwadar is nowhere close to having. Gwadar allows Pakistan to essentially use the port to charge transit fees for trade going to China and central asia through Pakistan. What comes through Karachi is for the consumption of the Pakistani economy and not for pass through purposes. The benefit of Gwader is that it CAN be used in a manner similar to Karachi but it will take a while. Karachi has the infrastructure, the population and the skilled manpower that won't be available in Gwadar. So there are very many differences and each port has a role to play.

Report ISLAMABAD: Senators from opposition benches have expressed strong reservations over the delay in functioning the newly established Gwadar Port and urged the government to take practical steps to ensure its proper functioning without any further delay. They accused that government's coalitional partner MQM was not sincere in the functioning of Gwadar port as Federal Minister for Port and Shipping fears that it's functioning could affect the business of Karachi and Qasim Ports. They urged the government to start construction of roads, hospitals, banks, and other basic necessities in order to attract foreign investment that could help steer out the country from financial crises. Senator Ismail Buledi of JUI (F) said that Minister for Port and Shipping, Baber Khan Ghouri wan against the proper functioning of Gwadar port as he fear that its functioning could damage the business of Qasim and Karachi ports. He said instead making the port fully functional, government was spending billion of rupees in the construction of civic centers. Senator Kulsoom Parveen of the Balochistan National Party (BNP) critisizing the government said that incumbent elected government was ignoring the promises it made with Baloch people prior to coming into power. She said government has made tall claims in the establishing and functioning of Gwadar port but no foreign investment could be attracted so far because it was lacking basic facilities of daily life. She said that government should pay its immediate attention towards the proper functioning of Gwadar port. Responding to the questions, State Minister for Port and Shipping Nabeel Gabool rejected the impression that Gwadar port was not sincere in functioning saying that 99% development work has been completed. He said import and export has been started via Gwadar port. He also informed the House that fund allocated for establishment for Civic Center could not be released due to concerns between AGPR office Karachi and Quetta. Nabeel Gabool maintained that Gwadar port was fully functional and it would improve the country's economical situation. Earlier, Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Babar Khan Ghouri informed the House that Gwadar Deep Sea water port project Phase-I including deepening of channels will cost over seventeen billion rupees and the government has allocated eighty-one million rupees in the current financial year for the project.

Talking to reporters after handing over ceremony of bicycles and motorbikes here at PQA, he said 125 locals from Gwadar were being technically trained to accommodate future private-operators of Gwadar Port. He dispelled the impression that work on the mage project was progressing with snail pace and it should be completed this year saying: "Port is almost complete and deadline for constructing road network is set for 2006." Associated Press Of Pakistan ( Pakistan's Premier NEWS Agency ) - Gwader port fully operational: Babar Ghauri

ISLAMABAD, Nov 3 (APP): Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping, Babar Khan Ghauri on Wednesday told the Upper House of Parliament that Gwadar Port was fully operational, however, the incompletion of N-85 highway was the major hurdle in getting maximum output from the port. He said the port had handled more than 120 vessels carrying over 2 million metric tons of Urea and 0.9 million metric tons of Wheat.
Replying to a question, Babar said the completion of N-85 road linking Gwadar with Rathodero would make the port operational for transit trade and local import and export.
So far the government had spent Rs. 2 billion as transportation fee in using the alternate route for the port, he added.
He said the land required for the free zone for establishing port related industries and production of base cargo, had not so far been made available.

Lets talk logically, what i see is functional Gwadar port handling million tons of cargo, having fully functional berths to handle cargo, capable of handling ships of size that karachi port cant handle, but what is missing? Missing is road and rail network! Who has responsibility of doing that? Surely not Babar Ghauri, u should ask NHA minister and Railway minister for why communication network is not built?

At the same time u should laud the efforts of Babar Ghuari who worked for the success of port gwadar !

Well, I wanna ask why was more than half of Karachi forced to shut down cuz of Imran Farooq's soyem?! Only those areas not under the influence of MQM were open. Why the whole market was open in the morning and shut down from noon for the whole day till the next?

and the day when Imran Farooq's dead body was arriving to Karachi, the markets were forced to shut down after maghrib the nite before?!

Doesn't that show MQM is a mafia party? How long would they like to keep this going on?! For heaven's sake give me one example in which a dead man's arrival would shut the whole city the size of Karachi! This sux man.
