More LCA Tejas For The IAF: $5.2 Billion Deal For Mark 1A Variant To Be Signed By December,

That is almost 63 Million a pop bloody hell.
need to check that claim, but the price will come down eventually....

HAL is known for its cost overrun and quoting exorbitant prices

Very expensive ..wonder why?

(Its more expensive than f16 which will come at 70m a piece, the new standard block 70)

F16 b70 is twice as good in every metric

Even the mk2 which will be medium fighter is way behind the mk1.

If i was the IAF chief i would have inducted 250 block70 f16s with indian line (or gripen ng). Pretty sure IAF would have acheived even advancr a2a missles and some source codes like turkey isreal to induct its own weapons in it.

My guess 250 f16s would have cost around 14-16b dollars and good have potentially replaced the mig29, mirages, and everything else in IAF ...

LCA should be shelved ..its too small for IAF needs..

IAF needs something like the j10/f16 range medium aircraft

Your price analysis is rather short-sighted. Without knowing the finer details like spares and any maintenance packages included within that price, the picture is not complete. Additionally, we do not know other billable items in the final price.

The f16s, its eco systems have been in business for multiple decades. They have been paid multiple times over due to its stupendous sales. Comparing the price of a new of the block eco systems in terms of production will always give us higher cost when we compares numbers and iterative enhancements of an already successful product.

That is almost 63 Million a pop bloody hell.
Honestly this price tag is more daunting than any of the other technological deficiencies of the LCA imo ... with that high of a cost, why not simply buy more Russian fighters, which are far more capable anyways? Unless HAL can substantially increase production, which I think is the only way for the LCA price to go down, I really don't see the LCA being viable.

That is almost 63 Million a pop bloody hell.

In 2017, Pakistan’s government through the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet approved the issuance of a certificate of sovereign guarantee for the sale of three JF-17 aircraft to Nigerian Air Force against a sum of $184.3 million, to support the declining foreign exchange reserves.

61.43 Million for one JF-17, bloody hell.

We all know US is not a reliable partner in a full scale war.

LoL

You do realize that your Tejas MK1, MK1A, MK2/MWF/TEDBF/OCRA all plan to use a US made engine. US can just stop the engines and all your fighters will become obsolete with a stoke of a pen.

Every airforce keeps spare engines. Lol and each engine has enouph life to see out any war.

Maintence and pilot training ..not an HAL contract for fix numbers of fighters delivery ...
For reference block 1 jf17 ..800m$ for 50..less than 18m$ a piece

Every airforce keeps spare engines. Lol and each engine has enouph life to see out any war.
Whats lol about?
It still holds true that tejas is not an independent aircraft and is prone sanctions like an f16

Lca tejas is not cheap
Why should it be

It has use engines twice the cost of a Russian engine
It has Israeli dash 5 elbit hms twice the cost of a Russian version.
Lca is a new platform so cost of setting up.infrastuxturec and spares has been included

But it's 50% cheaper than block 70 and gripen . Overall and allows India to build up aero Industry for future.

Rafale cost 200 million a pop with weapons life time support and spares and bases.

Slovakia paid the same f16 block 70

Brazil paid 150 million each for gripen with full package

So 63 million is cheap much cheaper

Heck even your block 3 is 40 million and our tejas is superior has we have western.engines and western avionics from.israel

So it's still a good pr9ject

To my fellow Indians don't listen to the lca haters
Deep down they hate the fact that India has
Designed and inducted its own fighter
That this fighter has efficient high quality usa and Israeli contents and india now has the infrastructure eco systems to build future enhanced versions of tejas be it mark 2 or even amca and drones.
They look at our navy building nuke subs and carriers and destroyers and think it's just a matter of time before the air force get it right.

To those Pakistanis suggesting we should just buy foreign weapons because they are cheaper. Well we just did mig29 upg and su30mki and rafale . . So the two induction programmes go hand in hand and compliment each other

In 10 years time we will.induct both Indian amca and either su57 improved mark 2 or f35 simultaneously.

The key to this is the massive GDP that India has over Pakistan is ten times the size and in decade it will 15 times the size as we overtake Germany and Japan become the 3rd most powerful economy on the planet.
That is guaranteed to happen just the timescale may alter due to covid

No body hates LCA
But its as costly as a western plateform and as much as sanctionable..
May be just 10-15 million cheaper than f16 (even though produced locally. A license version of f16/gripen would have cost similar)

why should we hate LCA Tejas? its abeautiful aircraft with spotless record to date... which other aircraft has such record?
you are right on its engine and other important components be top notch.
Navy got it right almost 10 years ago to start building ingenious warships and subs.... AF start gettign their act together now.
With LAC already in, the work has began on multiple next gen aircraft's....

Sanction India. Are you kidding me
The largest democracy on the planet
The biggest importer of weapons
One the largest economies
1.4 billion market for trade
Part of g20
Part of the quad.

India is far too big far to important to be sanctioned
Our defence and economic times with the West and indeed Russia will remain strong and deep rooted

mostly you are right but Indian strategic forces are begging Govt for Pokhran 3 lately... :D
and they have pretty strong reasons from 1998 to 2020 multiple generations of nuke weapons have come and gone and based on old Indian data the simulated tests are no longer feasible... Indian strategic forces needs a dozen or tests to gather data for simulation fir for next two decades and Modi might be thinking to finally give it a go...
